Chapter 1: Missed Opportunity

Chapter Text

Often, Mika is bothered by the mere presence of Ferid, but at this moment, Mika is completely crushed by it.

Ferid, was walking around, just— grinning.?

"I love that look that livestock have when all their hopes have been crushed," Ferid overly exclaimed with a smug look on his face. "That's why I can't stop playing this 'game."

The room fell quiet with the feeling of fear fulling it up.

Mika felt completely stunned, "What game.?" Mika's voice begins to tremble.

Mika quickly snatched the map into his view but too late to see it. A gust of wind flew the map in the opposite direction.

No way. Mika repeated in his head.

Ferid rushed at one of Mika's family members. That girl was around eight, shame she couldn't see her whole life through.

"Hmph.. died so quickly." The sound of the lifeless body hitting, the floor like a discarded doll echoed throughout the room.

Yu took out his gun in panick, "Run!" and the sound of a gunshot followed up. "Get moving! Mika, we have to hold him off-" His sentence was cut off by Ferid dashing towards their family with blood gushing everywhere.

Heck, even the children didn't even have time to even react, scream, hell, process what was going on.

Now, The only  humans remaining were Yu, Mika, and Akane.

"Akane, run!" Akane's sobbing was cut off by a clean cut into her right abdomen, she too kneeled as she fell.

The paralyzed Yu stared in awe at the death of a rather large majority of his family.

This wasn't looking good as far as Mika could tell, not much room for any hope in a room full lf dispair.

But maybe Yu can make it out alive atleast.

"Yu," Mika paused with a fake smile pasted on his face. "Don't forget we're family, and... Make it out alive, okay?"

Yu still frozen in place, Mika took that opportunity and snatched the gun. Mika leaped in front of Ferid. At the price of getting stabbed directly in the stomach.

Despite having around 10 minutes of life while being on the verge of death, Mika weakly pointed his gun at Ferid and failed. Mika's arm flew higher than his chances of surviving, along with this arm flying his gun did too.

Yu picked up the gun and sprinted as far as his drained legs could go.

Yu, please.

Yu aimed the gun at Ferid's head with his eyes overwhelmed with tears and desperation.

In that millisecond of a moment, Ferid thought, "Why not let that bullet temporarily turn off my brain?" Ferid grinned at himself at that train of thought.

Nevertheless, that thought was in vain because Yu, instead, shot himself.

Snow fell and it felt fucking freezing. Guren got a note from Satio and decided to go for it, of course, that idiot wasn't trustworthy and Guren was stupid enough to fall for it.

Guess this so-called 'prophecy' was debunked.

"Ah, ah, Guren! So impatient. Just wait a few more seconds."

The cold temperature continued to stay the same for multiple minutes, guess Guren wasn't just impatient but the people that Guren was meant to pick up were late. To think, Guren had his entire squad follow him as well.

"If you don't mind me asking," Syaori spoke up, "Where are we meant to meet them, exactly?"

"Dunno. The letter said here but no one is showing up." Guren responded with a stale voice.

"Are we off time?" Shigure asked. This isn't good.

"Nope."

"Perhaps we should head back," Mito said joining into the conversation.

"We didn't come here for nothing, should we take a look? Goshi added.

"We wouldn't stand a chance if a vampire saw us." Mito spat back.

Mahiru chamed in aswell. "Your friends are so lively! No worries, I'll take a look for you."

The confused squad members continued deciding on their next course of action. Even with the amount of comation his comrades created to the point they could've warmed all of themselves with whatever debating they did. Yet, Mahiru's words stuck to Guren like glue.

Mahiru had been a profound-genius and had Guren wrapped tightly around her finger, that being said, Mahiru once again pushed Guren to continue the Seraph of the End project. For the sake of his friends.

Still, even after he brought the dead back to life at the cost of an irrreverseable sin, they weren't completely back. Maybe this is what Mahiru intended to happen.

His friends of his have around six years before Guren is completely alone. These two kids better hurry up or else he'll need to get a replacement, someone with the project DNA.

Fuck that's too much effort. Maybe he can ask Ferid for some new test experiments? Never mind that where the hell is Mahiru?

The demon Guren desperately called out for finally came back. 'The experiments have disappeared.'

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

'Our weapons have gone missing'

Fuck.

'There there Guren, I'm sure we can sort something out.' Mahiru was abruptly cut off by one of Guren's beloved teammates.

"Guren, should we continue waiting or go back? They might not show up at all." Mito questioned.

"Let's go home. I doubt they'll show up if they take this long."
