Chapter Text

There’s a gigantic New Year’s Eve party at the Aoyagis, courtesy of Kamui-san of course, and Toya-kun’s invited all of his friends to it.

So it’s kind of obvious that Kohane would end up upstairs hiding away from the crowds of drunk people, sitting on Toya-kun’s bed with a cup of fruit punch.

There’s only a few minutes till the year changes, and Kohane’s trying to work up the nerve to go back downstairs to celebrate with everyone else.

But suddenly, there’s the sound of someone running upstairs and Kohane squeaks anxiously. She’s not supposed to be up here.

“Kohane?” A familiar voice whispers, and Kohane lets out a relieved sigh.

“In here, An-chan.” She responds.

An-chan smiles brightly and walks into Toya-kun’s room, sitting next to Kohane on the bed.

“How’d you know I was up here?” She asks, and An-chan laughs.

“Toya saw you going up. He doesn’t mind, but he said we should probably get off this floor soon since Shosuke Otori’s here.”

Kohane laughs gently, and An-chan laughs back.

“I’m trying to work up the nerve to try and go downstairs.” Kohane says, and An-chan shakes her head.

“It’s okay. It’s nice up here.”

“It is, isn’t it?” Kohane responds. “It was nice of Kamui-san to invite us, but…”

“Yeah, there’s way too many drunk people. I tried to keep track of everyone, but EVER and Arata started drinking…”

Kohane laughs again.

“If I know Tono-san, he’s probably…”

“Oh, absolutely.” An-chan responds, and she leans back on Toya-kun’s bed.

And when An-chan’s like that, illuminated by the moonlight, she almost looks like an angel.

But Kohane never really considered An-chan an angel.

More like… a siren. With her charming, beautiful voice, luring Kohane right into her arms.

But not to her death. No, An-chan lured Kohane to a rebirth.

She’s a different person than she was at the start of the year, and she loves every second of it.

She loves every second of being a street musician, of being a member of Vivid BAD SQUAD…

Every second of being An-chan’s partner.

“Hey, An-chan?” Kohane asks, and suddenly there’s the sound of people counting down from the bottom of the stairs.

Ten, nine, eight…

“Yeah?” An-chan responds, and the chanting gets more intense.

Seven, six, five…

“An-chan, I…!” Kohane starts.

Four, three, two, one!

There’s no time to second guess herself. Kohane leaps over and grabs An-chan’s face, slamming their lips together just as the clock strikes twelve and the cheering from downstairs gets more intense.

Happy New Year!

Kohane pulls away after another few seconds, and An-chan’s eyes widen.

“Oh. That was the hottest thing you’ve ever done.” An-chan says, with a bright smile. “You should take initiative like that more often, partner.”

Kohane just lets out a relieved breath.

“I’m so glad you liked it…”

An-chan laughs.

“Yeah. Definitely did. Love being kissed by my beautiful hamster girlfriend. Greatest thing in the world.”
