"There’s nothing you could want that you don’t deserve to have,” James whispered in her ear, smoothing back some of the hair there before tugging lightly at the ends.
Lily blushed at that, unsure about whether he would be disgusted if he knew what really excited her. He must have sensed her uncertainty because his tone became playful and his eyes burned with curiosity as he asked, “What secret fantasy are you hiding from me, Tufts?”
Just then, Remus and Sirius entered the Great Hall together, shoulders bumping and big grins spread across their faces. Lily turned to wave at them, happy to have an escape from the conversation. James, however, was not going to let it go that easily.
“Should I guess?” he whispered in her ear, slipping his hand under the table to caress her leg. “Maybe it’s not about what, but who?”
