Summary
There are few things in life that Castiel has to be grateful for at the moment, but he makes the ones he does have count. Tonight, he’s grateful that he didn’t actually find himself on a date with his boss, he’s grateful to have solved Dean’s case before more people could wind up dead, he’s grateful that Tanya is sleeping soundly when Nora returns so that she doesn’t see him favoring his wrist.
And Dean. He’s always grateful for Dean, even when he doesn’t want to be.
Tonight, Dean is alive when he could have so easily died because of Castiel. Because Castiel can never seem to get far enough away from Dean to keep his problems from bleeding into Dean’s life. Because Castiel is weaker now than he ever has been, and he can’t do a single thing to protect the person he cares for.
