The Wayne Family Athletics

Summary:

The Waynes are bored with Olympic level gymnastics. They are unimpressed by visiting Olympics athletes.

Or

The Waynes are completely out of touch with reality and treat that level of athleticism as normal.

Work Text:

A series of Olympic gymnasts were visiting Gotham. The event show casing their skills was a crowded event filled to the brim with the rich and poor alike. All those present were wowed in the athleticism The audience was enraptured.

Except the Waynes who had come out of social obligation. Most look bored. The youngest was sleeping on his eldest brother. The media saw Bruce Wayne also napping. Applause woke him briefly, the man gave a bewildered polite applause before falling back asleep. The other children were on their phones or talking with another.

It irked most of the attendants. The audience was quick to document the complete out of character disinterest by the most charitable family in the city. The hashtag #WaningWaynes trended for a moment.

The athletes, top in their field, had to meet the disinterested billionaires in order to try and get a donation to the various charities they represented. The media recorded the meet and greet. The athletes were understandably rude. The Waynes remained disinterested and perfunctory.

As the event ended people heard Damian Wayne loudly complain: “I don’t see why we wasted our time here, Father.” It had them stopping their exit and the athletes looked furious.

“We have to support athletics, Damian. Many of these athletes come from varying backgrounds and cities.” Bruce replied sounding as bored as his son.

“But Richard does all that much better even at his advanced age.” Damian defended.

“Hey!” Richard Grayson complained. “I’m not that old.” The lack of denial broke the polite veneer the athletes had. They had had enough. They broke out in a chorus of insults and retorts.

The loudest retorts was a challenge.

“I’d like to see you do what we did!” A male gold medalist said. He felt he had reason to be insulted by the rich bastards. He had performed a floor routine that had won him the gold.

The Waynes laughed. Bruce Wayne wiped away a tear. Jason Todd, whose return from the dead still seemed suspicious to those outside of Gotham, was the first to recover of the children.

“Show them, Goldie!” Jason Todd said to Richard Grayson. Richard grinned. Bruce Wayne looked annoyed.

“Dick, we have to go.”

“Oh, come on, B. Let me defend our family honor.”

“We could just throw money at them and leave.” Tim Drake Wayne suggested. Cassandra Wayne was seen signing something that people after said was Yes, let’s go already. They had been the most bored looking of the Waynes.

“Come, B. You can still do most of their tricks and your back is effed up.” Jason Todd said. Bruce Wayne did not deny it. His children chorused in agreement with the brother. Wayne sighed and pointed to his eldest.

“Dick, just get it done. We have reservations for dinner.” Bruce Wayne said clearly done arguing.

People who had heard the conversation stayed were sure that Richard Grayson would embarrass himself.

The man did a simple stretch. He walked to the spring floor. He performed the floor routine of the gymnast who had called them out. In a business suit. With loafers on. He didn’t even look tired at the end. The room was pin silent.

“Ta-Da!” Grayson said and smiled. “I haven’t done something that easy in ages! B, let’s do some gymnastics this weekend! Just like old times.” He ignored the stunned audience and returned to his family.

“I hope you’re happy, Jas.” Tim Drake Wayne groaned. “I hate gymnastics.”

“Oh hell no. I can’t do it as easily now that I’m fully grown.” Jason Todd said.

“Stop complaining, Todd. Richard’s training is hardly the worst we suffered.”

“You’ll feel differently when you’ve hit puberty, D. It effs your center of gravity.” Cassandra Wayne signed something. I can do it! Stop complaining. It’s not that hard.  It was later translated. Tim Drake Wayne nodded in agreement.

“Ah, come on, Jay. We haven’t done that in a while. Remember when you did your first triple somersault?”

“Yes and then you showed off doing four!” Bruce Wayne sighed.

“We’re all doing a family gymnastics day this weekend. That’s final. Dinner.” Wayne said.

Richard Grayson did a hand stand and started following his family out like that. Jason Todd scoffed and proceeded to do it himself. The other three siblings followed. Bruce Wayne sighed and proceeded to do it as well. He caught his phone as it fell out of his suit jacket, while balanced on one hand.

No one said anything as they disappeared out of the exit.

#WTFWaynes was the hashtag that followed after.
