Work Text:
The war has ended with the Legions, bringing the entire country at peace. No more fighting, no more guns to point, and no more suffering for those who had to deal with it head on.
4 years has passed since then, everyone didn't have to worry a single thing about those mankilling machines, including the cast who had to fight as their lives depended on it. Shin and the gang could finally breathe, they can watch the sun rise without having to think who to fight next.
And of course this also applies to the military couple. Ever since that day, that confession, that kiss, it was magical for the two. With them being together for nearly 5 years, they were absolutely inseperable. They fought long and hard beside eachother, went through large amounts of pain and trauma, and now here they are, enjoying a cup of coffee on a Friday morning at a cafè near their home.
The two were seated near the cafè entrance at a small table where they faced each other as they sat. Shin was enjoying his cup of coffee, he ordered an americano as he liked the dull taste of it. While drinking, he entertains himself with a novel, the one he's reading right now seems to be about science fiction, one that has the concept of war and mecha. Shin looked very calm on his end, however on the other side of the table, was a confused Lena. The silver-haired girl had a caramel macchiatto in a cup and a small plate of cookies on the side. The plate consisted of 1 chocolate chip cookie, while the other cookie was on Lena's hand already having around 2 bites.
"You know, I've started to notice something..."
Lena said while suspiciously chewing on the cookie with her eyebrows slightly frowned on her face.
"Hm?"
"The cookies I usually order don't taste the same anymore."
Still holding the cookie but in a way that makes it obvious she doesn't want to further eat the pastry.
"What makes you say that?"
Shin put his cup down onto its plate and looked at Lena waiting for an answer.
"Well first of all, it's a bit more cake-y and no longer has that chewiness to it. The only reason why I enjoy eating these cookies is because of the chewy texture that makes them quite nice to eat. Just the way it dissolves into your mouth really hooked me in you know? But now, whenever I eat this, it just falls apart in a way that makes my mouth dry and full. You know that feeling right?"
"Mm"
Shin nodded as he placed his book down next to his cup. He seemed to be weirdly invested into what Lena has to say about those cookies.
They were regulars at this cafè, usually coming in a few times a week during the morning and sometimes in the afternoon when they need a second cup to re-energize, so it makes sense as to why Lena is really rambling on about the cookies she frequently orders at their favourite place to get a cup of joe.
"Right? Second of all, do you see the amount of chocolate chips this cookie has?"
She reached the cookie out to Shin giving him a closer look at the half-finished cookie.
"Well I can't really see some of the chips-"
"Exactly, you don't. There's no sight of chocolate chips here. I mean seriously, what kind of chocolate chip cookie barely has any chocolate chips?"
The cookie did in fact have chocolate chips in it, just in a very small amount.
Shin looked at the woman in front of him rambling on about a single cookie. He didn't mind how out of the blue this conversation they're having was. In truth, he's sort of enjoying his girlfriend's little outburst, holding in his chuckling while drinking his cup.
"As a matter of fact, this shouldn't even be called a "Chocolate Chip Cookie", it's just...well....cookie"
Lena paused for a moment processing what she was just saying. Wait. Technically chocolate chip cookies are also called "cookies", it's still implied that it has chocolate chips in it when you call it a cookie...but then again..."cookies" don't immediately mean they have chocolate chips in it...
She was hard into thought, what exactly should you call a cookie that has no chocolate chips?
"Lena"
—A "No-chocolate chip cookie"? No..that can't be right. "Chocolate chip-less cookie"? That sounds weird..then..is it just a piece of bread? But bread has so many variations to it, you wouldn't think of this sort of sweet when someone mentions "bread" right..?—
"Lena"
She was still lost in thought, not hearing that Shin was calling out her name. He kept calling her until he snapped his fingers in front of her.
"Lena!"
<span;>"Huh?"
"I'm guessing by the look on your face earlier that you were thinking of what cookies without chocolate chips are called?"
Lena was slightly startled at how Shin read her like a book and was right on the money
<span;>"I-uh.."
A tinge of red appeared on her cheeks, embarassed with the question he asked and began to panic a bit.
Oh dear, how long was I into my thoughts? Did he really notice it that easily?
Her panicking didn't last that long as she heard the sound of laughter coming from the opposite side of the table.
"Hahaha, what are you getting so tense for? It's not that uncommon for you to suddenly get into thinking like this."
Shin was laughing at his girlfriend's reaction. Lena was about to become a tomato at how red she is from the embarassment. He enjoys teasing her from time to time and this was no exception.
"I...well! It's-i-it's just!...Oh just stop laughing will you!"
"Hahaha"
Shin's chuckling started to fade away and soon stopped, he knew it was time to stop messing with her before she could come and get back at him later in the day. That was what their relationship was like, aside from the caring and gentle side they have, they also have the occasional teasing here and there. Normally, it was Shin who does the teasing with Lena as she easily gets embarassed even with the smallest things. Whenever he'd go and mess with her, she ends up doing that face that Shin absolutely loves seeing.
"Well, it's almost time for us to go head to work."
Shin stood up from his seat holding his novel in his left hand and leaving his finished coffee on the table. Lena was still sitting there with arms crossed and giving him some attitude after his slight teasing with her.
"If you're gonna hold a grudge, make sure you won't bring that to the workplace? I don't want you locking the door on me when I'd bring paperwork to your office, Colonel Milizè."
Lena's eyes widened and let out a small sound. Shin paused for a moment and reached his hand out to get the last remaining cookie from Lena's plate.
"Hey that's-"
"I'm assuming the Colonel doesn't want to eat a cookie that no longer has that chewy texture to it, yes?"
Shin looked at Lena and she was at a lost for words. His eyes then softened and he let out a gentle smile on her.
"These are chocolate chips, Lena. You're just overexaggerating"
He took a bite and ate it for her. Lena gently smiled back and chuckled at what her boyfriend just did for her.
"Hahaha, yeah I guess I was exaggerating a little bit."
She got up from her seat and wrapped one arm unto his
"A little?"
"Oh shut up"
The two left the cafè giggling and smiles on their faces.
