Summary
“And when this is all over,” Mike says, eyes shut to the warm glow of the world around him. “I’ll send you off with all my love.” Peter is smiling at him, Mike can feel it; Peter’s fondness for him is palpable, past a slow, deliberate blink. Mike feels himself smiling back. He’d like to make Peter laugh; he’d like to hear Peter laugh. So: “And a watch,” he adds, “Like they do for all the old-timers.”
Sure enough, Peter laughs, one unbidden, forceful breath outward before he must try to stop himself. He’s no good at that—not laughing when he’d like to—after over a week spent with him on set, Mike knows that well enough.
“We’ll do this until we’re old,” Pete observes. “Is that what you think?”
“Well,” Mike hums. “It’s what I’d like.”
