Work Text:
It had started out a relatively normal night for Katsuki Bakugo, it was a Saturday and all he wanted to do was relax, watch a movie, maybe study, he was home alone in the apartment he shared with his roommate since the nerd had gone out partying with some of their mutual friends from classes. Izuku and Bakugo had known each other for about 18 years at that point, and had lived together for 2, and even through their ups and downs, never in his 22 years of life had he expected what awaited him later that night.
It was about 2 in the morning when he heard the door to the apartment open and close, Katsuki went to the living room to find his friend, a drunk and giggling idiot, presumably dropped off by half and half. Izuku had been on the floor taking his red shoes off (how he found the same pair every year since they were 4, Katsuki never knew). Izuku's face lit up when he saw the blond, he stood up, using the wall to hold himself as he waved.
Izuku: 'Heyyy Kacchan~"
Izuku giggled and kicked his left shoe off, stumbling a bit and falling into Katsuki.
Izuku: sorry 'orry!"
he mumbled and smiled. Katsuki could smell the booze in Izuku's breath, he turned his head slightly away from him.
Katsuki: "looks like you had a good time."
Katsuki could only assume that one of their friends had dropped Izuku off since Izuku was drunk AND didn't even have a car, and he couldn't be trusted in a uber.
Katsuki: who dropped you off?
Katsuki asked, getting a water bottle from the fridge and Izuku sat down onto the couch with a small grunt.
Izuku: "uhhhh Ochako? Iida? Shoto? I 'orta kindaaaa forgot"
Katsuki sighed, he would have to assume it was Shoto since everyone knew Uraraka was a lightweight and Iida would be driving her home since he didn't drink and went out with them all just to make sure everyone was alright, everyone else was out the picture. He sat down on the couch next to Izuku, placing the water bottle on the coffee table in front of him. Izuku opened it and drank a few sips before laying back into the couch, before Katsuki could say anything, Izuku suddenly hugged him, making them fall back into the couch. It took Katsuki by surprised.
Katsuki: "Zu, get off."
Katsuki could smell the booze from Izuku's breath, he wondered if he should make fun of him in the morning or scold him, probably both. Izuku had a childish grin, moving a bit of hair out of Katsuki face and pushing it behind his ear, studying the blonds face for a moment before muttering something under his breath, almost distracted.
Izuku: "...so damn pretty"
.
.
.
.
Katsuki: "The fuck?"
Izuku muttered on a bit more, but Katsuki didn't care about that at the moment, a bit starstruck by what Izuku said. Izuku being the little shit he was, just leaned back into the couch like nothing happened. Katsuki was still frozen trying to process the fact Izuku had called him, out of all things, pretty? Katsuki knew he was a rather good looking individual but to hear it from Izuku was just..... heart stopping, to say the least. He heard Izuku let out a muffled chuckle.
Izuku: "what?"
Katsuki sat up straight, this was a bit awkward. He glanced away and crossed his arms.
Katsuki: "I'm not pretty."
Izuku: "Yes you are! Your all uh...what's the word..."
Katsuki: what?
Izuku: "oh, pretty!'
Katsuki: "that's the same word you drunk nerd."
Izuku hiccupped as he had that stupid grin on his face, Katsuki had to admit, he really liked the compliment...but that wasn't something he was going to let anyone know; especially not Izuku.
Katsuki: "You're drunk."
Katsuki sighed and up got up from the couch, glancing over to Izuku who seemed to be a bit tired. Katsuki looked in the medicine cabinet for the pain relivers annoyed he had to deal with this. He could tell Izuku was probably just going to pass out on the couch instead of going to his room. For some reason Katsuki couldn't help but feel inclined to care for the nerd. He popped open the bottle, taking two and grabbing a water bottle from the fridge, walking back over to the couch, placing the items on the coffee table, which caught Izuku attention.
Izuku: "thanks.."
Katsuki let out a quiet scoff
Katsuki: "I just don't want to hear no bitchin' about a headache in the morning."
Izuku: "mhm.."
For some reason the green one giggled before looking at Katsuki, almost staring as if he had something to say.
Izuku: "you are-...you're a really great friend."
Katsuki felt something in his heart, but he wasn't sure what it was, guilt? love? fear? He couldn't put his finger on it. 'A great friend'.. some great friend he was. The atmosphere got a bit awkward, to Katsuki at least. He simply nodded and sat down on the opposant end of the couch, not sure how to leave after Izuku's comment. Of course, Izuku broke the silence, he seemed a bit emotional now as he gulped and started ranting.
Izuku: "I-"
He sighed, looking down to his hands, fiddling his thumbs, it was almost like he had no control over what he said at this point, spilling everything.
Izuku: "I don't think I say this enough b-but...I'm really grateful to have you around Kacchan..."
Katsuki felt his breath catch in a very audible way at the comment. A part of him wanted to leave, he didn't feel ready for this conversation and not in these circumstances but...he was desperate, oh so desperate to know what Izuku really thought of him. Something that plagued him deep down, a question he kept always asking himself even after being reassured by Izuku himself that everything was fine between them, it was selfish he knew that but, he sat there, deciding to listen. Izuku kept talking as he stared down at his hand thinking.
Izuku: "I mean like yeah; we haven't always gotten along but...I've never held it against you... sometimes these feelings are even confusing to me but ever since we were kids you were just this-... this imagine of victory to me... your sheer amazingness was just...blinding and honestly, I couldn't help but fall in love with you...a part of me thinks it's disgusting to admit but- I just can't even begin to imagine a world without you, if that makes sense?- K-Kacchan?! Why are you crying?!'"
Izuku has been interrupted mid rant to the sound of sniffles, he rubbed his eyes to look over to Katsuki who was looking down, using his hands to cover his face, probably ugly sobbing underneath. Izuku's eyes widened as he tried to understand the situation, he wasn't sure what he said wrong, or even said to be honest, before he could speak again, he felt Katsuki pull him in, hugging him tightly, saying nothing. Izuku was taken about, but gladly accepted the hug. Katsuki was glad Izuku couldn't see him crying like a little baby. This feeling was weird. It was like, a huge weight had been taken off his heart, a joyous feeling that made his sob with happiness, so...overwhelming. Katsuki softly mumbled into Izuku shoulder.
Katsuki: "I'm glad your around too... Izuku."
Katsuki slowly released Izuku, looking away as he wiped his tears. For some reason his hands were trembling slightly.
