   The holders of the many eyes seemed to be holding their breaths.

   The many other eyes, the smaller ones, all blinked at different intervals. They were constantly rustling and changing positions. One probed closely to his face.

   The woman leaned closer. Her white face was hazy. He couldn’t understand her expression. She looked afraid - why was she afraid? He could do nothing but moan in pain. Was he that terrible to look upon?
