Work Text:
They weren´t aware of how long it had been since the sun had graced their skin,
all feeling of time had been lost in the seeming eternal residence in darkness,
but they knew it must´ve been a while before the first sparks appeared,
since their flesh had gotten saggy and barely hung onto their bones anymore.
It was like seeing the sun again for the first time, or so they thought.
Their mind had gotten so used to the constant blankness of their existence,
that any light seemed like the saviour for all their struggles and they treated it accordingly,
even going as far as using their head as a torch, if it just meant preserving the warmth of the flame.
Their sanity was dripping down their figure like burning wax,
but they had gotten so numb because of all the cold darkness, they didn´t notice nor care at first.
But the flames wavered, a lot. A frozen mind just wasn´t made for kindling fire, only releasing wintry waves,
that fought it to the brink of death, every instance they warmed up to the new light in their life.
And over time, even they realized, that the fire, that was crippling their bones, wasn´t the sun.
The unsteady flames they had sacrificed their everything to maintain could never best nor be on a par with the pure nature of the star,
that used to embrace them with its warmth, for no other reason than their being.
Yet it was gone and the flame was all they had,
consuming them until there was no tinder left, only leaving behind ash that drowned in the tenebrosity.
