Chapter Text
Inspector Lewis arrives at his new crime scene and immediately spots the beautiful pathologist, Laura Hobson. “Right, what do we have this time, Laura?”
“Well, it looks like she died 4 hours ago. Her hands and feet have been bound with what looks like silk cord. There are no abrasions where she was bound. Her panties have been stuffed in her mouth. She has small fingertip looking bruises on her neck and thighs. I can’t see any visible injuries, but I’ll have to wait and see what I find. If I had to make a guess I’d say this is rough sex gone wrong.” Laura says as she stands up and brushes her hands off. Even in coveralls Lewis has a commanding presence.
“If that’s really what happened then why was she dumped out here? It doesn’t make any sense.” Lewis says he squats down next to the body. “Can we get her cleaned up a little before the next of kin come to identify her?”
“Well the first part is up to you, Lewis. I can’t help you there. You have to figure that out. I’ll make sure your body doesn’t look like this when the next of kin come to see her.” Laura teases Lewis. He’s easy to tease.
“You’re supposed to be helpful. Just because I’m a police officer and you’re a pathologist doesn’t mean you can’t help me out with the police part. I can always use someone other than Hathaway to bounce ideas off of. Listen, if both of us have time later we should go out to my local for drinks.” Lewis suggests nonchalantly.
“Is this going to be like a date, Lewis?” Laura ask as she strips out of her coveralls.
Hathaway notices his partner gulp when Laura bends over to pull the bottom of her coveralls off. “Sure, a date if you want. Now help me out. Why would a woman who dies accidentally during rough sex get dumped by a lake?” Lewis says with a coy smile.
“A date sounds nice. The only reason I can think of dumping a body somewhere remote is if the death wasn’t accidental. Bodies don’t get dumped for no reason. Listen, I’ve got to get started on the autopsy and I’ll get as many results as I can before we go out. What time are you picking me up then?”
“Let’s say that I’ll pick you up at about 6:30? Can you be ready by then?” Lewis asks as Hathaway walks off to interview witnesses. Hathaway feels like he’s intruding on a special moment between his partner and the pathologist.
“If that’s when you’re picking me up then I can be ready by then. Do I have to dress up?”
“Of course not. We’re only going to my local. Don’t worry about how you’re dressed.” Lewis says with a smile. He walks away with a spring in his step.
