Work Text:
On your birthday, you woke up to the sound of someone being in your kitchen. You hadn't called anyone over, so you were instantly alarmed of it being a burglar. The intruder opened the fridge and rattled with the utensil drawer for a bit, before it became quiet again.
You sneaked to your wardrobe and took a broom leaning against the left wall, before you opened the door quietly and expertly tried to avoid any creaking floorboards. Once you had sneaked to the kitchen door, you scanned around and saw no one there, and frowned. You had heard movement there just seconds ago, and now the person was just gone. Had it been a groggy half-dream?
You turned around to see a man in front of you and immediately screamed, whacking the intruder with your broom but instead, was met with just air.
"This is how I'm greeted?" a familiar voice said from your side and you whipped your gaze to Loki who was seated in an armchair. "Hello."
"Loki? What— I thought you're a burglar! Or a serial killer!" you scolded him and Loki pouted.
"Aren't I allowed to make a birthday cake for my beloved?" he asked, gesturing towards a multi-leveled cake that had just appeared on the side table.
"You came all the way here from Asgard to bake me a cake?" you chuckled, shaking your head. "You could have warned me, I was just about to have a heart attack."
"I'm sorry about that, my darling. But telling you that I'm coming would have ruined the surprise."
You let out a heavy sigh and looked back at the cake. "Well, I am hungry. Thank you, Loki. It's very kind of you."
Loki whipped his hand and suddenly, there were two pieces from the cake on plates placed on the dining table. You sat down, Loki taking your hand as you tasted the cake and put your hand over your mouth, surprised how good it was. Not like you expected anything less from a literal god, but still.
"It's delicious," you told Loki when you finished eating your pieces, and Loki took your hand again, pressing a light kiss on the back of it.
"Happy birthday, my beloved."
