Eddie and Venom have already recovered a lot after the final fight with Riot, thus today Eddie had decided to try and do some work on the laptop again. Of course that had been a little bit boring for Venom, so in the evening they decided to leave work and drive off together, because a certain someone suddenly wanted a chocolate… milkshake. Yeah. For variation.
Venom is happy that they're doing something together now, a trip to McDonald's so to speak, so they get in the car. At the drive-in Eddie orders two large milkshakes, one with chocolate for Venom and one with vanilla for him, and he places the bag he receives on the passenger seat. Just as they are about to drive back home again, they see a sign advertising a drive-in cinema in front of them.
"Eddie, did you see that?" Venom asks, voice full of excitement. "Let's go there! It'll be great!"
Eddie nods. "Alright, let’s do it! I’m sure it will be a great evening."
Eddie drives off and they head to the drive-in cinema. It's getting dark already and the first stars are coming out. There is a counter at the entrance where you can buy tickets. Of course, Eddie and Venom, the symbiote well hidden inside Eddie’s body, only need one, so Eddie pays and they drive onto the huge parking lot. Venom spots a counter with popcorn and, of course, wants some. Eddie agrees and drives to the counter.
“Two please”
“What size?” the woman asks.
“Normal”, says Eddie, who realises his mistake too late.
“No! Big!”, Venom interjects, and Eddie can almost internally see his symbiote's pouting face.
Eddie sighs. "I take two times large please."
The woman just looks irritated at him for a moment and then starts to fill the bags.
“You already have a huge milkshake,” Eddie whispers a little annoyed to Venom while the woman is busy, “now you want all of this popcorn too?”
"I’m hungry" Venom answers bluntly and Eddie rolls his eyes at his symbiote's seemingly favourite sentence. How often had he already heard that today. "And…" Venom starts somewhat hesitantly, "today we’re finally doing something special. Together."
At that Eddie looks up. “That's right", he whispers and can’t keep it in him to hide the smile any longer.
Then Eddie is handed the bags and puts them on the passenger seat next to the milkshakes they already got. He pays with card and drives on. Eddie parks the car in one of the back rows, opens the windows a crack and turns off the engine. They stand slightly raised on a small ramp to be able to see the screen better.
"Alright" Eddie says and takes the popcorn bags, "could you hold them for me please?"
Immediately Venom forms a strong arm out of Eddie’s side and holds onto the bags with his claws, so Eddie can take the shakes. Life with a symbiote could be very practical indeed.
"You can go into the passenger seat now if you want" Eddie says with a nudge of his head to the side. Venom forms his large body next to him and immediately begins to eat a whole load of popcorn.
"That's supposed to be for during the movie!" Eddie says shaking his head and laughs. He opens the straws and sticks them them through the lids. "Here", he says and gives Venom the chocolate milkshake, who then hands Eddie the second bag of popcorn.
Eddie just looks out of the window for a moment, because the movie is about to start, and when he looks back Venom has already finished the whole milkshake, lid discarded somewhere under the seat, with his tongue still halfway in, and the bag of popcorn is almost gone as well. Eddie sighs and hands him his own bag of popcorn.
"Thanks Eddie!" Venom says happily and devours the whole thing.
Eddie sights, but can’t help the smile that tugs on his lips when he turns to the front again.
"The movie is about to start," he says looking at the screen, where the opening credits roll. Meanwhile, he unfastens the belt and leans back while drinking his milkshake.
Then the movie begins, it is now dark and the stars are shining. The windows are opened a crack to be able to hear from the speakers. They sit next to each other and watch the movie silently. Somehow the speakers are so quiet that you can't really concentrate on the plot though. It’s probably a romance movie, but Eddie pays so little attention, he isn’t even sure. So they're sitting next to each other and the focus isn't really on the screen, they're looking a little bit into the night.
Eddie drinks his milkshake and Venom looks at him. Eddie sighs, by now clear that he can’t be mad at his symbiote. “Do you want the rest?”
Of course Venom grabs it and empties it in one go. He throws the empty cups into the back seat.
Eddie raises an eyebrow. “I’m not picking those up.” He says, not entirely serious.
Venom looks at him apologetically, but Eddie can’t keep up with his silly idea of hiding a grin. Why is his heart pounding so much? Oh how he can’t stop smiling…
They watch the screen for a bit longer, but the movie isn't that interesting and the speakers are very quiet, so there is no point in bothering with it anyways. Venom notices how Eddie is looking out of the window instead, up at the stars. He somehow seems lost in thoughts and looks over at Venom from time to time with a sadness in his eyes. A question in his head, Eddie wonders while he studies Venoms face from the side. The bright big eyes, the black skin, shimmering like a puddle of spilled oil in the rain… so entirely non human, so special, so far away from him…
“Where I come from?” Venom formulates the thoughts Eddie is thinking. “No idea where it’s located, I can’t tell from here, I’d have to look at a map", Venom says with a chuckle, trying to brighten the mood with a bit of humor in his tone, but even though Eddie smiles for a moment, the human turns to the side again to stare out of the window. Another question in Eddie’s head, but he doesn't dare to ask it. He doesn't dare look at Venom with that thought. Maybe he doesn’t actually want to know the answer, if there was a possibility for it to turn out to be the one he couldn’t bear to hear… Maybe he should just…
"Ask me, Eddie", Venom says, stilling his train of thought at once.
Eddie turns around and looks at him with glassy eyes. Should he really…? He stares at Venoms white eyes, looking at him so… “Do you…" he sights, "Do you ever want to go back?” Eddie asks, his heart pounding.
Venom shakes his head vigorously. "No way!" Eddie stares at him with bright eyes. Heart beating. "Everything I need is here, here with me.” Eddie gasps, suddenly he feels a touch on his hand and when he looks down his hand is in Venom’s. "And I'll hold on to that and never let it go." Eddie's heart is pounding and he blushes a little, a smile full of relief spreading on his face. Eddie gently holds on to Venoms large hand and they quietly look out of the window again, watching some scenes from the movie.
Suddenly someone comes by and Venom immediately disappears into Eddies body again. Eddie looks out the window, completely shocked.
“More popcorn?” The man asks.
“No”, Venom answers immediately and the salesman stumbles away, irritated by the voice.
Eddie laughs a little and watches him go. He looks up at the stars again, now with a completely different feeling, no longer one of worry, but of freedom. Venom materializes right next to him, almost on his lap, and Eddie's arm is already placed around his waist after materialising. They are squeezed very close to each other on the seat. Venom takes Eddie’s hand again and his arm goes around him as well. Eddie looks up at him with a smile.
“I’ve never been this happy,” Eddie whispers.
"Me neither," says Venom, "although when you woke up in the hospital and we cuddled..."
"Oh, shut up," Eddie says with a smile and finally leans in to kiss Venom.
When they part for a moment they look at each other, Venom smiles, full of sharp teeth, but so very endearing. “That was a joke Eddie,” he says and holds him even tighter, and a wave of comfort flows through their bond. “Nothing comes close to this.” Venom gently leans in for another kiss. Eddie smiles into it and feels his heart beating faster than humanly possible, which is - for this moment and these feelings - a very appropriate circumstance.
