Chapter Text

Just one more beetle and Luffy would be completing the bug collection on his game. The thrill of accomplishment had him squirming a bit in excitement and as he did he felt Law's fingers grip his shin a bit tighter.

“Sorry,” Luffy apologized in a whisper, flipping his eyes from the screen to Law's face to make sure he hadn't disturbed his slumber. He was still sound asleep, the sudden shift from Luffy had only made him twitch slightly.

Going back to his game, Luffy settled more comfortably into the cushions of the sofa, avoiding stretching his legs on Law's lap even further so as to not disturb his boyfriend anymore.

He didn't mind keeping Law company while he slept, he knew that in between his university classes and work at the clinic sometimes he could be too drained to keep Luffy entertained on their dates… or well, the evenings when he'd crash his place unannounced, like this one fateful night.

The fact Law never kicked him out or gave excuses to not see him meant more than anything, he appreciated the effort he still put into spending time together and he enjoyed just being around him.

The slender fingers on his shin started slowly creeping up toward his knee, eliciting a muffled laugh from Luffy.

“Torao, that tickles,” he giggled, bringing the Nintendo's screen down so he could look at Law, whose eyes were still closed but his lips had pulled into a lazy smirk.

“Sorry,” Law started, his voice groggy and low, “I didn't mean to fall asleep while you were telling me about your game,”

“It's okay, I'm almost finished catching all the bugs!” Luffy replied excitedly, “I just gotta find an atlas beetle, but they always fly away before I can get close enough with my net,”

“Well,” Law yawned, “It's good I can let you concentrate on your bug hunt,”

Luffy hummed, followed by a sequence of buttons clicking.

Getting no verbal response was the cue Law needed to open his eyes and turn to get a glimpse of his companion. The sight had a smile finding its way onto his face. There was Luffy, cozily leaning against the sofa's armrest, eyes almost crossed as he concentrated on his game, the hem of his top rolled above his navel from the cushions below him, and his tan legs taking ownership over Law's lap. He looked hella cute.

The fingers clasped around Luffy’s knee slipped their way toward his inner thigh, where Law began to rub circles over the rough fabric of his shorts.

Breaking out into a fit of hysteric giggles, Luffy let go of his console to focus his hold on Law's forearm in an attempt to stop his ministrations.

“W-Wait!,” he chuckled, “That's too ticklish!”

Law took mercy on him and exchanged the thigh for one of the hands pulling on his arm. He laced his fingers around Luffy’s and squeezed while he let him settle from the tickle attack.

They both sighed, and Luffy shuffled from his makeshift nest so he could be close to Law, pressing his cheek against his shoulder.

They were enveloped in a comfortable silence, holding hands and sharing body warmth where they touched. It was nice, and all Law needed after a long couple of days of nonstop responsibilities.

“It's getting late,” Law broke the silence after checking the time on the wall clock. It was five past ten, “Let's go. I'll drive you home,”

Luffy whined and pressed harder into Law's side, “I don't wanna,”

Law smiled fondly, “We'll get some drive through on the way. Whatever you want,”

“Really!?” Luffy tilted his face up, round, hopeful eyes staring into Law's soul. It was endearing how the promise of food had the boy's entire mood shift like magic.

“Sure,” Law replied, reaching for the car keys he'd tossed on the coffee table earlier, “We missed dinner while I was sleeping. Can't bring you back to your brothers on an empty stomach,”

That had Luffy laughing. It was true. If he did such a thing Law would never hear the end of it from Ace and Sabo. The last thing he wanted was to be called a lousy boyfriend. Again.

So they both got up, hands still clasped together and embarked on the grand adventure of finding an open drive through on a Sunday night.
