Work Text:

Jason gets it, no really, he does. Ever since he came back from his hiatus (*cough* death). He's put on much more muscle than he had before. Which happens to be very useful as a Gotham vigilante.

So it makes sense he’d be eyed for the football team. But he'd thought after about the 5th time of laughing in Coach Miller's face. The man would, maybe, please, for love all things holy leave him alone??
He guesses he asked for too much.

(He swears this is Tim's fault, he saw that little shit talking to the coach earlier). Anyways today, Monday afternoon (the worst day of the week.)

And No Dick Monday’s not a “fresh new start or “a chance to try something new.”
Jason's just fine without meeting new people and trying new things. His life is fine the way it is, and he doesn't need anyone or anything new mucking it up.

Back to the present, he's heading to the library to his book club where they're discussing the Hunger Games lore for the 4th time in a row. But he sees Coach Miller rapidly approaching from the other side of the lockers.

Jason's got 2 minutes to get to book club and he'll be damned if Coach Miller makes him even one second late. (He's got a LOT of opinions on Katniss and Peeta’s romance that cannot wait to be voiced). (They should have never gotten together after Mockingjay).

Again, it's really very important he gets to book club on time. So, in order to avoid the nagging coach, he starts spiriting, booking it as fast as he can to get to the library.

Unfortunately, in his haste, Jason isn't exactly looking where he's going. Why would he? He knows the way like he knows the back of his hand, it's practically his second home. Jason bumps straight into… Kon El Kent (Tim's boyfriend).

Jason may be strong but he's not a literally invincible kryptonian. Kon moves and Jason faceplants into the floor. To make things even worse Tim's right behind Kon with his phone out. Who's laughing with his phone pointed at Jason. Is he seriously recording this? Jason will have to retaliate by hiding his” coffee > crime fighting” coffee mug later."

He spots Roy and Kori nearby. Roy is laughing so much he's also doubled over in laughter. Kori just continues to sip her smoothie. But hey, at least his fall has managed to make the football coach uncomfortable enough to walk away.

Jason gets off the ground. And expresses his plans of revenge towards Tim. “Yeah, you're laughing now but you won't be when your favorite coffee mug suddenly disappears. Tim, who at least hasn't ignored his warning, clicks off his phone and goes silent.

After a moment Tim takes in a puff of air and in a very high voice says, “You wouldn't dare” and follows it in quieter pitch “Would you?”. Jason responds, “I absolutely would, recordo weirdo.” Tim scoffs loudly, Kon then informs Tim that he's about to be late to photography club, so they promptly exchange goodbyes and leave.

Roy gets a pass from Jason's revenge, because he's with Kori and Jason is quite frankly terrified of Kori and does not want to get on her bad side. Kori just smiles at him and waves goodbye as she and Roy walk towards the school exit. He's probably taking Kori to get another smoothie. (She hasn't stopped drinking them since Dick introduced them to her when she first got to earth).

Jason starts walking to the library again because but now he's probably already late for book club and he can't discuss all the reasons Katniss Everdeen should have remained single.

He's like a minute away at most when who of all people should approach him and stop him in his tracks but, Coach Miller. (Who he literally face planted into the floor to avoid.)

” Do my eyes deceive me or is that Jason Todd I see?” “Hi Coach Miller, yes it's me Jason Todd, just trying to head to book club.” “Still got your nose stuck in a book I see, that's all well and good but a boy like you is simply made to play football!”

“I'm very happy reading my books coach, and also very happy with not playing football.” “Haven't you at least thought about it? “” It'd be easy for you, and you could win enough scholarship money to pay for a full ride here.”

(Jason certainly didn't need the scholarship money, his dad is Bruce Wayne, but he wasn't about to let Coach Miller know that.) “That sounds great coach, but I'm still not playing football”.

Coach Miller seems to have lost his enthusiasm for convincing Jason to join the football team for the day. “Alright kid, but just think about it and get back to when you do decide to join.”

Jason would only ever join the football team to mess with Tim, who became a cheerleader because his boyfriend plays football.

” Alright Coach, Tomorrow we can discuss how I won't join the team again.” Coach Miller waves goodbye to Jason and walks to the gym. Jason sighs heavily and continues the remaining trek to the library.

Although Jason tried his very best to get to the book club on time. He's late but he isn't late enough for the meeting to be over, so why is no one here? Jason heads over to the library cork board to see what's up with the library being emptier than district 12 after Catching Fire.

There’s a small poster pinned that informs him that the book club was canceled today. Jason stares at it for a moment, all that effort and he didn't even get to share his unpopular opinions on Suzanne Collins’ books. Jason resolves to discuss them with Steph and take his revenge (No he hasn't forgotten.) on Tim when he gets home.

The next day Jason's fall ends up all over YouTube, posted on a page called common Jason L’s.

After that Tim's coffee mug goes mysteriously missing for a week.
