Chapter Text
Watching the town Syringe knew slip away was hard. Watching her two friends wave goodbye as she was sent to a new town made indescribable emotions float through her. The grief of something that was never going to stay finally leaving.
Syringe sighed and turned up her music, listening to a variety of tastes as her and her family moved hours away. She had plans to call them whenever she could, but would it be enough? What about new friends? Would anyone in Normal like her?
Pushing any more anxious thoughts out of her mind, Syringe took a deep breath.
“Relax,” she whispered to herself, “everything will be fine.”
“It will be, kiddo.” Band aid, her mom, piped in from the front. She reached back and grabbed her knee softly, a comforting gesture most of the time. Most. “You’ll make more friends than you know what to do with, and you can always-“
Syringe interrupted, a strained smile on her face “make new friends, and keep the old.ive sung the song for camp a thousand times, mama.” The two laughed softly, but soon a silence overtook the car once again. Syringes mind drifted far away from everything as she was left to wonder what the next four years would be like.
_____
Four years were up and Syringe was running. Not just for fun, but as far away as they could.
Paw pads against the concrete road, they held their bag tight and close to themself. Syringe was getting out of there. No more green, no more Chapstick, and everything would be fine.
Looking in the tote bag to make sure everything was there, they slowed down and stepped to the grassier sides by the road. Figuring they were far enough away (a mile? Two? They couldn’t tell), they took out the most important part of their plan.
Broken glass and cooking oil.
Syringe spread the glass around, throwing shards everywhere in a specific area, doused the ground with the liquid, and started running again.
They weren’t sure of how long it would take.
It could be months before they were far enough.
Years.
But they wouldn’t go back.
Paw pads on the cement grew farther and farther away, whispering of the past coming to haunt them.
_____
How had she found them? Syringe hadn’t seen chapstick in months, maybe years. But there she stood, the green woman herself, smug as ever.
“Darling, you’ve just been sitting there. Its almost like you mi-“
“Shut up.”
Small interactions through a smaller window, Syringe laid back and remembered everything. Everyone. How Rat poison took him in, Painting and Bottle Caps banter, everyone’s kindness to a stranger.
Rare people. Good people. Didn’t matter much now, seeing as they were in the back of a van headed to god knows where.
So syringe did what they do best and started banging on the walls and yelling demands they couldn’t make. After 5? 10 minutes? The van finally stopped and Chapstick opened the doors. They took a step back, seeing what she would do to him.
Chapstick took a step in and walked towards Syringe, smiling sweetly.
And smacked them across the face.
“If another word comes out of your mouth I’ll make TT get the sleep gas. Okay, sweetie?”
Syringe just nodded, rubbing their cheek as chapstick hopped out of the van, the sickly sweet sight of her smile never leaving.
As the van started moving again, syringe paced the floor and cried for hours. But never spoke another word.
Until, they finally arrived at their destination.
_____
Syringe, or ‘Anti science’ now, looked from their phone to up and around them. The house had to be around here somewhere. Or at the very least, the frog in question.
“An-ti? Friend?” A heavily distorted voice came in, almost sounding fake. They looked around, spotting a small frog. At least..they think that’s what it is?
After a few seconds of silence, Anti Science crouched down, smiling.
“You’re froggy, i assume?”
“Y—yes.”
“Well it’s a pleasure to meet my new friend and cofounder.”
The frog, or froggy, made a goopy, melting smile. He couldn’t help but smile back. Adoring this small thing already. Even if they were so..green. They wouldn’t be like chapstick, he wouldn’t let them be.
Pushing back all thoughts of Froggys possibly fake kindness, they smiled and walked with her, talking about the power of friendship.
