Work Text:
For most children, darkness is a reason to be scared. But for Lucy, darkness has always been a place. Or rather, her entire world.
She made her first friends when she was four. Now, she doesn’t even remember their names anymore. She only knows one thing: she used to be jealous when they were arguing about which colour was the prettiest one or which shape was the most fun to draw. She still doesn't know what colours look like or how to draw.
Lucy made her first real friend when she was in school. He didn’t care that she was blind and walked her home every single day.
On her fourteenth birthday, he gave her a necklace. Judging by the way his hands were trembling while he was helping her put it on, Lucy knew it meant a lot to him. He told her the sapphire on it was blue. Lucy also knew that, if she could see, blue would be her favourite colour.
Ar fifteen, Lucy discovered her love for music. Her friend would give her an earbud every day on their way home and they’d listen to music together.
Day after day, her world seemed to lighten up more and more, metaphorically, of course. No, being blind wasn’t getting any easier, but she learned that while darkness was a place, light was a feeling created by happiness and love.
