Summary
She didn't have the foresight to stop herself; tears spilled over her cheeks and onto her clenched fists. She lifted her gaze briefly, eyes softening slightly as they landed on Kazuma. He stared at her, bewildered by her abrupt display of emotion. He began to raise his hand toward her, but stopped himself with a slight grimace. She hastily wiped her face, pale skin flushed red. She felt embarrassed, but mostly, she felt relief. Kazuma knowingly smiled at her. It was a soft, sad smile, amused by her sudden shift in demeanor. His smile soon fell and his brows furrowed in concern. Up until a couple weeks ago, Veena hadn't had a nightmare in decades. Now, they were almost nightly.
She failed. She failed them all, all, except one.
