“Let’s get straight to the point. What the hell is this?” Tobias said seeing what his partner Graves brought in.
He was simply having the most delicious (although expensive) meal of his life after Graves managed to let their target escape with the shotgun shells for brains running straight at them shooting instead of waiting for the right chance like he suggested which let them escape.
And as per usual Graves said something along the lines of “Don’t worry I got a backup plan” to get back the money they lost which to be fair did usually work in the end. After having their life threatened tenfold from the norm.
So it really shouldn’t have been a shocker when Graves brought in a foot long cockroach spider thing with exposed red tight muscles and parts of a white… exoskeleton? That’s really the only way he could put it in words. And on top of all that it had two different mouths with teeth that were currently biting into the bars of the cage it is currently in.
“Well.” Graves started. “I was walkin' through the slaughter docks and BAM! A portal appeared out of thin air!”
“So like the one the Yordles use?”
“Oh if one of those doofuses would come out I would have shot them right in their face but instead this fella jumped out and… kinda killed a dozen people before running off.”
“And let me guess you waited for it to get a reward for handing it over?”
“That was the plan but for some reason they want it alive! Made things really annoying. Lucky that it survived a point blank shotgun blast.”
Tobias is now slightly frightened of whatever insect Graves has brought in. Even though Graves claims it was shot point blank, it didn’t appear to have any visible injuries. They needed to get rid of this thing as soon as possible.
“Let’s just get this cashed out. I don’t like it being near me.”
“We should name it.”
“No.”
“It kept repeating the word Skrelv outside of its screeching. Sounds good enough.”
“Fine let's get ‘Skrelv’ cashed out so we don’t have to worry about it jumping us in our sleep.” Tobias said in defeat.
“Come on it’s fully locked in you have nothing to worry-” As Graves was about to finish both of them could hear a piece of metal falling onto the ground.
The thing or Skrelv as he was named by them now has managed to chew through a pillar of the cage it was trapped in. Still there wasn’t enough space for it to fit through so it started chewing on an another bar.
“Alright I see your point. Let's get this thing out of our ha-” In that moment an explosion hit the front of the building they were both staying in.
“Come on! Can’t a man finish a sentence for damn once?!” Graves shouted as he grabbed the cage and took cover with Tobias following right behind him.
“Give us the bug and nobody will be hurt!” Shouted a giant muscular man with around twenty other people standing behind him with sharp weapons and firearms in their hands. “We will get a fortune for this creature!”
Graves smiled as he instinctively tried to fire his trusted weapon at them. It took almost being shot in the head for him to realize that by grabbing the cage he forgot to take his shotgun with him. Shotgun which was now too far away for him to get.
And those ruffians started to shoot at their cover anyway. What a waste of ammo Tobias thought.
Tobias took two blue cards out of his pocket and looked at graves. “Let’s just get out of here. We can steal it from them later.”
Graves looked down on the ground, pondering for a moment before his face exploded back into his usual self “I’ve got an idea!” he said now looking at the cage with Skrelv being almost finished with the second bar by this point.
“It better be good.”
“Oh it will.” Graves then grabbed the cage and shouted “Alright if you want it here you go!” before throwing it with full force at one of the people shooting him, knocking them out in the process.
“Glad to see you have some common sense. Now to claim our riches.” The leader said as the second bar came off with Skrelv now being free.
Skrelv instantly jumped at the leader’s face with him screaming for his useless men to do something. But nobody could do anything before the thing that attacked him jumped off with his head being shredded, no longer recognizable. Everyone else now started panicking and trying to shoot it or slice it in half.
“See Tobias? And we don’t even have to move a muscle.” Graves laughed as he and Tobias watched Skrelv slaughtering the men with them missing every shot.
“Okay but what then when it’s going to be done with those idiots?”
“It’s easy. Just use that gold card of yours to keep it in place. We run away to find another cage. We trap it again and cash it out. Something that simple cannot fail.”
Tobias, now preparing his golden card, replied. “Sounds just fine.”
They both looked again at now twenty corpses with Skrelv chewing one of them before it looked at Graves at Tobias before charging forward.
Tobias threw the golden card as Skrelv lunged at both of them.
But before both could make contact a one sided portal appeared right between them. With Skrelv going through it and the card hitting it but doing nothing before falling to the ground.
And as soon as it appeared the portal closed leaving no trace behind.
“That was no Yordle portal.” Said Tobias now very much confused. What he saw felt more like a tear in reality itself. As if someone forced it open not caring what consequences it would cause.
“That’s cool and all but you forgot about the most important thing. The cash! Oh well, we can just loot the corpses.”
“Well, have fun with that.” Tobias stood up “But hurry up before the landlord finds half of his property blown up with bunch of corpses in front of it. You did use a fake name while getting this room right?”
“Eh, probably.” Tobias sighed to that response now facepalming. “Never change hotshot” He said quietly under his breath.
“Anyway, your loss.” Graves said cheerfully as he started taking anything worth something out of the corpse’s pockets.
