This planet was amazing. But she'd explore later. Once she had found them. She exited the shuttle and hurried into the ark. So many people. So many different species. No one she recognized. So she wandered further in, looking for someone she would recognize. She wandered for ten minutes until someone recognized her.
"Sahuna? What are you doing here?"
"I came as soon as we got the all clear, Evfra." It had been decided to have a ground team on each planet just in case the kett broke off from the main attack. Instead of being here, she'd been at the research station, doing nothing while her sons had been in danger. She had hopped on a shuttle and left Havaral as soon as the order came to stand down. "Have you seen Jaal? The Pathfinder?"
"Not since the end of the battle. But they were heading here. Maybe check the med bays."
"Med bays?" Oh, no. "Why? Did they-?"
"Knowing what I've come to know about him and what I did also, he's probably there, visiting the injured."
She left Evfra behind and wandered for another twenty minutes before she found the right med bay. And found Evfra had been right and wrong. He was here but he wasn't visiting. He was lying on one of the beds, unconscious. She rushed over and grabbed his hand.
"Ryder? Scott?" The chest piece of his armor had been removed and multiple patches were on his bare chest. She looked to the various monitors but didn't understand anything. Why was he here? How bad was he hurt?
"Excuse me." She turned to see a human male approaching the bed. Jaal was right behind him. "Who are you?"
"Mother, what are you doing here?"
"Oh", the man said. "You must be Jaal's true mother, Sahuna."
"Yes. How is he?"
"Scott will be fine", the man said, rightly guessing she wasn't asking about Jaal. "SAM's reconnected. We sedated him until the worst of the come down from the meds is past. We'll reassess then. He'll be under for at least another hour but you're more than welcome to stay if you'd like. I'll grab another chair."
"Thank you."
The man left as she grabbed Jaal, pulling him close without letting go of Scott's hand.
"I was so scared. Are you alright?"
"I am. Didn't even get a scratch. Mother, you didn't need to come all this way. I was just about to call you."
"Yes, I did. When you have children yourself, you'll understand."
"We're not-. I mean, we haven't even discussed if we want them. Or how?"
"You'll figure it out. You have time now." That was what this victory gave them. "Lots of time. You're both still very young." She wanted to stay by Scott's side but he wasn't her only concern right now. And staying here wouldn't do her son any good. "Come on. I bet you know this ark well. Give me a tour."
"Scott-."
"Wouldn't want you just sitting around for the next hour." Hopefully. But she figured he knew him very well by now. "We'll be back before they wake him. Come on now."
They walked for just under an hour. But when they returned, Harry, as Jaal had told him during their walk, told them Scott had already woke up. But he had woke up, screaming. He had been put back under and moved to his room on the ark. She hadn't moved from his bedside for over five hours now. Though she kept sending Jaal away for short breaks. He worried so much over the people he loved. He'd stay beside him without eating and sleeping if she didn't stop him.
She looked towards the bed as Scott sighed in his sleep. It was the first noise out of him she'd heard. Whatever he'd been put on had to be strong. When his eyes opened, she searched for his hand that was under the blanket and grabbed it.
"Scott? It's okay. I'm right here." He looked over at her. His eyes looked different. Why was that?
"Mom? What are-? Mmm", he groaned, closing his eyes. "Hurts." Her heart clenched at what he called her. Though she didn't think he was totally aware of his surroundings. What had Jaal told her? Scott's mom had died before they came to Andromeda. His dad shortly after they arrived. The poor boy.
"It's okay", she murmured, leaning over and brushing a hand over his hair. "You're okay. I'm here. Mom's here."
