Chapter Text
On the sixth of April in the year 1812 Colin Bridgerton fell in love, quite literally. He was horseback riding with his brothers in Hyde Park when suddenly a yellow bonnet smacked him in the face which caused him to very abruptly fall flat on his bottom. He was annoyed at first of course he was but then, he looked up and saw the most beautiful, ocean-colored eyes he had ever laid his eyes upon, small freckles decorated her face and then, and then he snapped back to reality by a distant yelling
“Penelope Featheringhton look what you've done! Mr.Bridgerton are you alright?” and then, she spoke.
“I am so sorry mama, I didn’t mean for this to happen, the wind blew my bonet and I- I didn’t have it properly tied. I- are you well?“ anxiously babbling and she still looked beautiful? he laughed, he couldn’t help it.
“Right as rain” he stood up and gave her a smile extending his hand to grab hers
“Colin Bridgerton, nice to meet you , Miss?”
“Ms.Penelope Featherington” Penelope, What a beautiful name.
“Colin! Dearest, are you okay?” his mother yelped as she came to his side, grabbing his face as if inspecting every inch to make sure he was not hurt.
“Yes mother, all is well” his mother smiled at him and turned to the side seeing Penelope and her mother, giving them a small smile.
“Mrs. Featherington! How lovely to see you”
“Viscountess Bridgerton, I’m so sorry this has occurred, I’ve told my Penelope to tie her bonnet many times but she just seems to not listen” she said giving Penelope a darting look
“Do not fret, my son is perfectly fine, are you not dearest?”
He was still looking at Penelope, hoping she would give him the pleasure of looking at him once more but instead she was looking down as if ashamed he wished to walk over to her, tilt her chin up and force her to look at him, just so he could see her beautiful eyes once more.
He cleared his throat snapping back to his mother’s question
“Yes mother, perfectly fine” and then his mother being the saint she is, invited the Featheringtons over for tea ofcourse they accepted and so he was happy that he’d be able to see her once more.
And so he did, and he would watch her from afar, giving her small smiles anytime she looked over at him. Penelope and Eloise became thick as thieves instantly which could only mean one thing. He’d be able to be in the presence of the woman he loved more often than not.
