Rose knows what saved her. A man whose skin glittered with scales, whose bright blue tail and fins glowed with golden light before he disappeared back beneath the waves, leaving her alone on the shore.
He spoke a language that danced around her. She hears him in her dreams, but no matter how many times she returns to that bay, she can’t find him.
Until someone else washes back up on shore.
He lost his clothes at sea — Rose helps him cover himself, blushing — and his voice; he never speaks.
He’s so familiar to her. Rose offers him her hand.
