Work Text:
Wednesday sat at the table on her side of the split room, leaning against the wooden desk, staring at the typewriter hoping that some poorly designed idea would magically come to her.
It had been like this for a while, going in circles, trying to write, failing and then slamming her head against the table trying to remove the writer's block by force. She had been stuck on a chapter for quite an annoying amount of time and it really started to get frustrating not being able to physically come up with words. She sighed.
Not being able to think of anything, she pushed herself back from the table and stood up, letting the chair roll backwards. Wednesday glanced to the other side of the dorm room, she observed all of those nauseatingly colorful stuffed animals and posters on the walls, which she had managed not to despise so much in the last few months.
Enid certainly had a weird sense of style, the girl loved everything that was in pink. Wednesday didn't know what to think of that. Whoever had set them up in the same room was a complete idiot thinking that Wednesday would ever like to live with someone like that.
She didn't think of Enid. No. Perhaps that was a side effect of some imbecile deciding to push complete opposites together in a single room for dreadingly long amounts of time.
The blonde didn't cloud her thoughts 24/7.
Definitely not.
Even a plague was more fun because it actually could kill, but obsessive thoughts about someone however, only made her delusional and weak. Wednesday didn't have any weaknesses. Or emotions for that matter.
Except, perhaps for that one time last week when Wednesday came back to their dorm room, to find Enid giggling about something on her mobile phone. When Wednesday had indirectly asked her about it later, Enid had answered that she had been texting some boy from their school, trying to "study" together. That for whatever reason made her stomach turn in ways she didn't know were possible, making her sick, imagining some pathetic guy's hands on the blonde.
That night she had almost taken the nail gun out of her closet.
Wednesday shook her head at the memory. She walked over to the split window, glancing outside at the orange leaves falling from the trees. Something about these dark, rainy times in autumn made her feel... Safe. October was definitely her favorite time, it gave her the sense of belonging somewhere or perhaps she just liked seeing children run around in pathetic costumes on the last day of the month.
She looked at the clock above Enid's bed, the blonde of course was nowhere in sight. Yoko had come to pick Enid up a few hours ago and both of them went to some party on the other side of the school, because people there had larger dorms.
As long as the goth recalled, she despised parties, they were loud, obnoxiously colorful and there was a lot of illegal drinking involved, not to mention other substances which did weird things to the user. She remembered how Enid had told her about parties, the games that were involved, the drunk making out. The latter sent a pang of jealousy down her spine, that was another reason she didn't go, she just didn't want to get hurt even more watching Enid kiss half of the school population. She didn't even want to think about that, the thought made her want to throw up.
The next few hours went by quickly, Wednesday had finally found writing inspiration and had finished another chapter of her novel. She was about to start another chapter, when her phone rang, playing some deep, gloomy tone Enid had set for her.
Wednesday picked up the phone, swiping the green button on the unknown number. "Hello?"
There was a loud noise for a second, which sounded like music then Yoko spoke. " Oh thank god you finally picked up! "
"Tanaka?" Wednesday stopped writing, looking at the typewriter. "You better start explaining why you made me pick up in the middle of my writing session, otherwise I'll lock my phone in the desk drawer and you won't be able to reach me again."
" Wait! " Yoko yelled into the phone. " I was calling you to tell you that Enid is completely wasted ."
Wednesday stopped fidgeting with her free hand. She put on a flat tone. "So?"
" So what? " Yoko mocked her. " Come get her. " She said, her voice ringing through the phone. Wednesday really wanted to get up from the chair and run through the school to the dorm where the party was happening, but she held herself back
"Why would I come fetch Enid?" Wednesday raised an eyebrow, but then remembered that Yoko couldn't see her. "I'm not her keeper, Tanaka, you dragged her there, you bring her back."
Yoko sighed on the other end. " But I still want to party, if you could just be nice for once Addams and just do me a tiny favor. "
Wednesday was silent for a minute, she really contemplated that idea. But at the end of the day a favor was more valuable than what people might think about her. "Fine." She exhaled. "You'll owe me."
" Thank you! " Yoko added, then she hung up and the line went silent.
Wednesday looked at the paper that was in the typewriter and started contemplating her life choices. She grabbed her black cardigan and put it on for another imaginary layer of protection against the stares.
Nearing the part of the school where the party was, Wednesday noted that the loud music could be heard from two hallways away. Wednesday already hated this.
She turned down the hall where the actual party was. There were some people slumped against the wall, looking like they were passed out, some of them were probably just sleeping.
Wednesday wanted to cut her ears off right about now. The ear-bleeding music was getting too loud. She clenched her fists and stepped through the widely opened door. The urge to turn around and walk out of there was growing stronger by the second, it was loud, there were too many people and the smell was completely disgusting.
There were people on the floor, there were people dancing, making out and of course drinking. Wednesday wouldn't be surprised if she couldn't find Enid here in this mess of color.
She made her way through the mass of people, bumping into a few on accident. Then she finally found Yoko, and chose to stand exactly behind her. "Tanaka."
The girl jumped, "Jesus Addams!" She shook her head. "Do you just enjoy doing that?"
Wednesday ignored her. "Where's Enid?"
Yoko smiled slightly, she turned back around. "Enid..." Then stopped when she came face to face to face with an empty chair. "I swear she was just here."
They spent the next few minutes looking for Enid. They found the blonde sitting in the lap of some guy, smiling, drinking something out of a red solo cup.
Enid spotted Wednesday and her eyes softened, she leaned back dropping her head on the guy's shoulder. "Hey look, the party police is here, the party's over!" She laughed.
Wednesday looked at Yoko with a dead facial expression. "Clearly, you don't need me, so I'll just-" Yoko grabbed her by the arm.
"No, you're leaving and you're taking Enid with you." She let Wednesday's hand drop, then she walked over to Enid. "Come on sunshine, Wednesday is going to take you home."
"M' don’t wanna," Enid whined. "t's fun here." She frowned when Yoko pulled her away from the guy who was clearly also drunk.
Yoko brought Enid over to Wednesday. "Here, don't lose her or I'm never letting you take her again."
"Like I had a choice in the first place," Wednesday mumbled, she took Enid by her orange sweater, not letting herself touch the girl. She looked at Enid. "Don't try to escape, Sinclair."
She pulled Enid through the room, clenching her fist in the girl's sweater from the stares she got.
"You're no fun, Wenny." Enid mumbled once Wednesday pulled her out into the hallway. "Larry was fun, he gave me some fun drinks."
"You're not doing anything with him again." Wednesday told her.
Enid broke free of her hold, slumping against the nearby wall, sliding to the ground. "Why? I mean it was funnn-"
"I don't want you to." She kneeled down and looked at Enid, the girl had closed her eyes. "Come on Enid, let's go home ." She hated the fact that she had started calling their dorm home for whatever reason. Wednesday looked around the hallway, spotting no one, before she gently wrapped her arms around the blonde, picking her up in a bridal carry.
Enid hazily blinked, she wrapped her arms around Wednesday's shoulders, dropping her head into the crook of the girl's neck. "Y' smell so nice, Wenny."
Wednesday's cheeks colored a bit pink. "I- you're drunk, Enid." Wednesday replied, tightening her hold on the girl.
They walked through the quiet halls, then Wednesday turned the corner and started climbing the stairs to Ophelia hall. Enid shivered sleepily and looked at Wednesday. "Y' know Wenny- I've always thought that you were really pretty." Enid sighed. "D' I think you like me, but you just can't- admit it." The blonde softly mumbled on her shoulder, her breath reeked of alcohol. “Y` know It's just funny watching you pine after me, those cute stares.”
Wednesday froze, stopping on the last step. She shook her head. "You're clearly drunk Sinclair, and you don't mean any of this."
Enid giggled, she lifted one hand from her shoulder, keeping the other around her neck. Enid gently booped Wednesday's nose with one finger. "Because if you like me, d' tell you that I really like you too-" She lifted her head and quickly pecked Wednesday's already pink cheek. "-you're the best, d' know that?"
Wednesday exhaled shakily, continuing to walk. "You're not too bad yourself, Enid." She stopped at the door of their dorm, opening it with one hand, then closed it once she got inside. "Let's get you to bed, Sinclair."
She brought Enid over to her bed and gently lowered the girl onto the bed, she lifted the blanket and put the blanket over the blonde. She turned to leave when Enid tugged on the sleeve of her cardigan.
"Stay with m' please?" Enid looked up to her with the most adorable eyes. "Its cold." Oh how Wednesday wished that Enid meant what she said. But after all it was just the effect of alcohol.
Wednesday sighed. "You're drunk, you will freak out in the morning, I can't." Wednesday told her and watched as the smile slowly disappeared from Enid's face. "Plus, you won't remember this in the morning."
Enid swallowed. "Then make me remember."
Wednesday stopped. She closed her eyes, trying to figure out if Enid meant what she said. The brunette contemplated her options, before turning to Enid. "Fine. Just five minutes."
She gently moved Enid over and got under the pink blanket. Wherever her color allergy was now, it didn't matter.
Enid looked into her eyes. "Is it the vodka, or were your eyes always this pretty?" Wednesday blushed, luckily it was pretty dark, so she hoped that Enid didn't see, she also hoped that her face wasn't as red as it felt.
"Sleep Enid, you'll be grumpy in the morning." She sighed and turned around, facing her side of the room. Everything was fine until she felt hands wrap around her stomach, Enid pulled Wednesday into herself, entangling their legs. The blonde dropped her head into the nape of Wednesday's neck.
"Thank you, Wenny." She softly whispered and closed her eyes. Within minutes Enid's breath evened out and she was dead asleep. Wednesday wanted to move, she tried and Enid tightened her hands. Wednesday stopped.
Enid woke up once the dorm room was bright enough to wake the dead. Everything hurt, her eyes, her ears, her hands were numb. Enid sighed into her pillow. It stirred.
Enid froze. That definitely wasn't her pillow.
She carefully opened her eyes to come face to face with Wednesday's sharp jawline. She slowly tried to back off. Wednesday captured her hand.
"Don't. It's cold."
"A- are you sure?" Enid asked.
Wednesday nodded. "You asked me to stay yesterday. I did."
"Thank you for bringing me home , Wenny." Enid mumbled, laying her head on Wednesday's shoulder. "I didn't do anything embarrassing did I?"
Wednesday turned around to face Enid. "Nothing too bad, only rambled on about how pretty I was."
Enid blushed, she unconsciously started to fidget with the bottom hem of Wednesday’s black T-shirt. "I- I'm sorry about that."
"I didn't mind."
Enid looked at her Hazily. "Can I kiss you?" She looked into her eyes.
"You can." Wednesday replied. "I wouldn't mind that too."
Enid's mouth ran dry. "Wait- did I say that out loud? I'm so sorry-"
"Just kiss me, Enid." Wednesday mumbled, her soft breath hitting Enid's face. The blonde swallowed then nodded. She leaned in at a slow pace, as their eyes shut slowly. Once their lips brushed, Enid slightly leaned back, then when Wednesday didn't seem to mind, she leaned back in capturing the girls lips again with much more passion.
After a bit, Wednesday pulled back, both of their chests heaving from the lack of air. "Okay, Sinclair, no more kisses until you brush your teeth. Otherwise you reek of vodka or whatever you drank."
“God I don't remember,” Enid sighed. “And my head hurts so much, it's annoying.”
“That's fine,” Wednesday dryly said. “I doubt that you'd want to remember the things you did, besides I can fill in any blanks you are missing.” She sat up, disentangling herself from Enid's hold. “I'll get you the headache pills and water, whatever, you just do what you`re the best at.”
Enid raised an eyebrow. “And what would that be, Miss Addams?”
“Just sit there and look pretty.” She sarcastically remarked then rolled her eyes.
Fifteen minutes later Enid got out of bed to go to the bathroom, she found Wednesday there, applying makeup onto her face. She stood behind the girl, wrapping her arms around Wednesday`s waist. “Is this okay?” The brunette just nodded slowly. “You know…” Enid turned her head and kissed her on the cheek. “I don't think drunk me was lying, you don't need that stuff to look pretty.”
Wednesday looked at her. “You think so?”
Enid smiled and nodded. “Of course. You're beautiful Wednesday, anyone who can't see that can go and get glasses or something.” She sighed. “Okay you get the point, I- I just love you for you not for-” She took the bottle out of Wednesday's hands. “Face concealer.”
Anything past ‘Love you’ didn't really register to Wednesday, it was then she decided that she wanted to hold onto those words as long as she could, no matter what way the universe would let Enid stay in her life.
“You know,” Wednesday looked at Enid in the mirror. “I suppose I don't entirely despise you too.”
Enid beamed at her. “Don't worry, you don't have to use those big girl words yet, if you don't want to,” She let go and patted Wednesday on the shoulder. “We'll work on that, Wenny. Together. ”
