Work Text:
Bad boy halo was his best friend.
He knew that.
They’d met when they were young, immediately latching onto one another. They were the best of friends, with the taller being the parental figure of their friend group while the shorter acted as the troublemaker, two opposites who pulled through high and low for years on end. Of course there were others, Punz, Hannah, but the two men had known each other the longest and would be willing to leave their lives in the others hands.
That bond lasted throughout their school lives, from primary, high school, and now their final year of college. Bad boy halo wanted to become a baker and Skeppy a cricket player but they knew that no matter what jobs they’d end up with, they would be friends.
They would have to be friends.
They were friends. Right?
They were never meant to be friends, not after those GODDA-
Footsteps. Footsteps were crunching through the outer foliage that Skeppy knew existed outside the warehouse. He hastily turned, looking for the person. Maybe they could help him, maybe they could help them-
A masked man entered the building, seeming disgusted by the smell, not like Skeppy could smell anything now, but he could imagine and it was probably horrible. The person twisted a knob on the side of their mask, barely noticeable until the man had turned them.
Was he a hero? No one else could’ve gotten something made by THE Warden, and even if they did somehow get that stuff why’d they be here if not a hero on patrol?
God, he hoped the man was a hero. (Maybe someone could finally get every poor soul involved out of this mess.)
And so Skeppy observed. There was not much else he could do anyway, aside from pray for the best from a god who’d either abandoned him, didn’t exist or just really hated him for some reason.
It’s not like he could really move anyway with the way his actual body was literally rotting under the godforsaken crimson vines. All he could do was watch and feel the plant (?) eat away at his powers while he himself (what was left of him, atleast, he wasn’t sure what he even was at this point) could do nothing but bear with it and watch.
(Watch as more and more people fell victim to the corruption, going insane or becoming possessed by that THING)
.
..
…let’s say Skeppy was tired of watching.
He took notice of the man again. And the poor guy was tied up on a chair, unconscious as a blonde guy stood staring at him.
The fuck?
The man who was tied up woke, startled and the blonde’s eyes widened with surprise. Skeppy had no idea what happened, he couldn’t hear and smell or taste (thank goodness for that, no one wants to taste dirt and whatever else is underground) so he was in the dark.
Blondie was (or looked like he was) threatening the chair dude with a gun, and the guy was clearly out of it since nine bullet shells were lying on the floor and the barrel of the pistol had 9 containers, so the gun was probably empty.
Anyway, blondie says something and the chair dude suddenly slumps over for some reason. Was…was he asleep? No offense but if Skeppy was that guy he didn’t think he’d be sound asleep while being threatened with a GUN, but whatever.
Blondie, who had a pretty cool-looking moth mask covering everything but his eyes, turned, looking at the vine- wait a second.
The blonde wandered over to the vines, seeming like he was looking for where the cursed vines came from.
He hesitated, probably because of the smell, before touching a vine and lifting it up ever so slightly. Gingerly holding a vine in one hand he bent forward but immediately pulled back, dropping the vine and watching a whole horde of flies rush out.
And Skeppy was free.
He stood, shocked that this worked-the moment the blonde touched the vine there was just a brief moment where Skeppy saw empty space at the small of the blonde’s back, just perfect for him to go to.
So he did.
He saw opportunity and took it, and now he was inside some random guy’s body with a bunch of space-he didn’t even need this much but it sure was nice, especially compared to the horrible, horrible vines that absorbed him.
Here, nothing could hurt him, and he could now hear and smell and taste and had everything he wanted.
Nearly everything. He now just needed his friends, but they were probably long gone at this point.
Well, he actually wasn’t feeling everything himself, but from the blonde.
Whenever the guy was hurt (and that happened A LOT, why was this Tommy guy so clumsy), Skeppy would feel the pain, and when Tommy was happy Skeppy felt happy, and so on and so forth.
But this was far better than before, wasn’t it? And honestly, he didn’t want to really lose what he’d gained right now. All he needed to do now was find his friends and hopefully, hopefully manage to save the few who hadn’t been infected yet.
Something that once felt so far away now actually felt possible, and Honestly? Skeppy was pretty happy with how things had gone-not the best, but definitely better than before.
