Chapter 1: Season one.

Subject: Transfer from the archives

Hello Martin,

After careful consideration, I have decided you are unfit for work in the archives. You do not possess the qualities I look for in an employee, I am unsure why Mr. Bouchard assigned you as my assistant in the first place. After just a week in the archives, you have shown that you are incompetent and clearly have little hope of succeeding down here. Time and time again even after corrections you have repeatedly mislabeled files, had incorrect formatting in your research, and on a few occasions have managed to look into blatantly incorrect information.

I will be speaking to Mr. Bouchard about having you transferred back to the library.

Dear Jon,

I know you haven’t exactly loved my recent follow-ups, so I was wondering if you were able to work with me a bit on this next one so I can get an idea of what you want? Nobody has told me the correct format and I know it is an important thing to you so I want to get it right.

Subject: Thank you

Dear Tim and Sasha,

I wanted to say thank you for accompanying me to the archives. I understand that I am most definitely not the correct fit for this job (Sasha, you should’ve gotten the job) so if you have any feedback, please feel free to tell me.

I overheard that you two are going out for drinks tonight and was wondering if I might join. I’m not much of a drinker but it would be nice to get out.

Subject: Hi!!!!!!!!

Dear Martin,

Welcome to the archives! I’m so excited to get to know you better! I heard Jon lecturing you earlier, by the way. I’m so sorry about him; he can be a bit of a prick. If you ever need help, please ask me! (or Tim but he’s less likely to know what he’s doing.)

I wish you luck down here! I can already tell you’re going to do great :)

Best wishes,

Sasha James

Dear Mum,

I’m sorry it’s been a while since I’ve had time to visit. I got a promotion at work; it’s just an assistant position, but I’m making better money now. I promise I’ll visit the first chance I get. I hope you’re doing well. I haven’t gotten any calls from the nursing home, so I guess that’s good!

I think I made some new friends here; their names are Sasha and Tim. You’d love Sasha, I think. My boss doesn’t like me much; I don’t know why.

Your son,

Martin

Subject: Your absence

Hello Martin,

Do you have an idea of when you will return to work? You have had minimal contact with us and have provided no insight as to when you will be back. I understand that you are ill but I would appreciate it if you at the very least kept us updated. Frankly, it is worrying how long you have been gone.

Please reply at your earliest convenience. Tim and Sasha have both tried to contact you, and this is our last-ditch effort.

We miss you,

Jonathan Sims
