sharp cuts, soft knives

Summary:

Chase and Riley got experimented on as kids, and were forced to become weapons later in life. But they hate it. Hated being seen as ‘less than human’, or ‘evil’, or just experiments without feelings. They wanted to be normal.

But life doesn’t, so they aren’t. They’ve been tortured and hurt time and time again.

But maybe help will come, even if it’s from an unexpected place.

Chapter Text

Chase was hurting everywhere.

His hands hurt, because his fingers were practically replaced with knives. They were so sharp, they could cut through flesh like warm butter.

His head hurt, because of the bright lights above him.

His tail hurt, because he didn’t have it before and was still adjusting, despite getting it several years ago. He had gotten all of these several years ago, but they still flared up sometimes.

His mouth hurt, because someone was poking and prodding at him, to make sure he was ‘up to standard’.

It was like he was a science experiment.

Which…he was.

His father sold him when he was seven, because his family needed money. Badly.

He had a little sister, whose name he had forgotten by now.

He had a mother, who hopefully forgot about him by now.

He had a father, who…he didn’t know why, but he hated him. Maybe it was because he did this to him inadvertently, maybe it was because of a reason he couldn’t bother remembering. Whatever it was, he hated him.

“The examination is done. Send him back to his cell.” The scientist examining him said to another that he didn’t know was there.

His arms were cuffed together, and the shock collar was turned on again.

He was escorted back to his cell, and the door was slammed behind him. The only light in the room was coming from a shitty light on the ceiling.

But it perfectly illuminated Riley. His dirty blonde hair matched the fur on his two tails, and he was basking in the light like a cat taking a nap.

Chase walked over to him and laid down next to him.

The movement woke up the sleeping beauty, his eyes slowly opening.

“Mhm…Chase? Did they do anything to you?” He rubbed at his eyes, eyebrows furrowing.

“Nah, it was just a evaluation. Don’t worry.” Chase patted Riley’s head, green powder coming up as a result.

“Be careful, don’t want you to fall asleep.” Riley yawned.

“I’m immune to it by now. Surprised that you aren’t though.” The sharper one of the two chuckled.

“Shuddup. D’you wanna take a nap with me?”

“Yeah, sure.” Chase climbed on top of the younger male’s back, who blushed in response. Riley wrapped his tails around the two, working as a homemade blanket.

“I love you.” Riley said sleepily.

“I love you too.” Chase planted a little kiss in his boyfriend’s hair, and inhaled the scent. It smelled like lavender and lime. Chase savored the scent before falling asleep. It was so calming.

He was so in love with Riley, it was ridiculous.

He just hoped that their nap wasn’t interrupted by an assignment. Those were horrible. They hated hurting people, hated being seen as evil, but it was either those people or them.

They shared dreams of being free, of being happy. Normal. A perfectly normal couple, able to be seen by the public as humans and not freakish excuses for living beings. Not being seen as experiments that had to be kept in a cell. It was…mundane. It was perfect.
