Work Text:
Date: 6th of January; a little after the New Year break
Location: The Shopping Mall in Kamiyama
Today I, Kamishiro Rui, was in the company of the organism known as the Tenmascis Tsukasacus (male). My task was to find new materials for our next assignment in our theater-learning endeavors.
However, the Tsukasacus that I was with sensed something in the air as we were in the middle of our search. Catching sight of some other creature mere aisles away, he yelled an "OOOOOOOOUUUUUUHHHHHHH!!!!" as a Tsukasacus does when he spots something of interest to himself. What an interesting creature, he is.
Turning to see what caught his eye, I saw the fine specimen of the Hinomoris genus: the Hinomoris Shizukus (female) who seemed to be accompanied by a Momois Airiscus (female), if I remember correctly.
"Ooooooouhhh!!!" she called out to the Tsukasacus. Albeit, a softer volume than how the Tsukasakus expressed.
The Tsukasacus raced towards the Hinomoris Shizukus happily. The two creatures start to engage in some small talk. Such an entertaining pair! I came as well to greet the other two and received warm smiles. Although it seemed that the Tsukasakus and Shizukus were immersed in conversation, asking each other about their own herds and the small cubs (siblings) they were protective of.
I am fascinated by the dynamic between these two different species. I would love to observe their interaction again in the future! Interesting day, for sure.

Date: Late January; around the 19th (Forgive my failing memory, to the Kamishiro Rui that reads this passage again)
Location: Shibuya Scramble
Having to wait in the Scramble Crossing for the arrival of the Tsukasakus and company, I bear witness to another encounter between the Tsukasakus and the Hinomoris female also known as Shizukus.
They both make a similar noise this time–the Tsukasakus being the louder one of course. Was this some sort of mating call?
They mingle near a bus stop, but what’s this? They seem to be accompanied by their respective kins. One being the shy younger Hinomoris–otherwise known as the Hinomoris Shihosus. Likely startled by the loudness of the Tsukasakus, I presume…Or is she just annoyed?
On the Tenmascis side, there was the little Tenmascis Sakicus. Energetic as always and seemingly eager to play with the Hinomoris Shihosus.
As the two younglings bid goodbyes to their older siblings in order to play, the older ones continued to mingle and gush about their respective siblings. A topic I believe they share great interest in.
I was afraid I’d be interrupting the two’s talk if I showed myself and called out to the Tsukasakus. So for now, I allowed myself to spare more time in observing the compatible duo.
Maybe I’ll gather more findings? As per usual, I invest myself into recording every observation I can set my eyes on.

Date: 8th of February
Location: Nonogi Park
In Nonogi park I gathered alongside my troupe in a collaboration shoot with the Hinomoris Shizukus’ up and coming idol group, More More Jump. Such a splendid and talented flock of creatures! Though more interestingly (to me, that is) comes another observed interaction between the Tsukasakus and the Shizukus. Excited to gather new findings, I recorded this entry while the camera was away from my face.
Watching the Shizukus speak in front of the camera, viewed by thousands of the group’s subscribers was truly a sight to behold. The elegant Hinomiris was thoroughly at her true element.
But enough about that! The Tsukasakus has introduced himself as an old childhood friend of the Shizukus. Interestingly enough, they talk more about their past together as casual playmates. And–oh, what’s this? The Shizukus continues to praise the good deeds of the Tsukasakus in front of the camera and the male is quite…flushed. Tsukasakus, as a species, are rare to show this kind of shy nature but I have only witnessed it being caused by the Shizukus. This time makes it twice now.
A fascinating dynamic indeed–Oh! I was just called to give a short performance. Regardless, I’ve gathered enough essential data for the day.

“Um…Rui?” Nene suddenly questions while Rui makes some repairs on Nenerobo. “What’s this journal thing on your desk and why does it sound like you were writing like some weird zoologist talking about Tsukasa and Hinomori-san?”
“Oya? I didn’t think you’d be snooping on any writings of mine,” Rui jokes, knowing he trusted his childhood friend enough to permit such behavior. “But yes, that’s indeed a documentation of mine regarding Tsukasa and Hinomori-san’s interactions.”
“What’s it even for?” Nene raises an eyebrow, questioningly.
“Oh, I just find their dynamic quite interesting despite that they don’t seem to see each other on a daily basis, is all,” Rui smiles, amused at every memory he sees his close friend and his acquainted Kyoto field-trip companion display so much familiarity towards one another.
“I mean– I get that but that doesn’t necessarily warrant you recording their every encounter, even for you,” Nene retorts.
Rui chuckles seeing how his childhood friend knew him all too well. Truthfully, it did start out as just a generic journal where he writes any event he finds interesting while also practicing narration skills for play ideas. However, seeing the two people in question interact again gave him ideas.
“Well, I guess I don’t need to keep it as a surprise,” Rui finishes a screw on Nenerobo and faces Nene fully. “You see, while we’ve been busy hopping around theater companies for various opportunities, I find that I’ve gotten less opportunities to write my own original show ideas. Truth be told, I don’t want to miss it terribly so I’ve been cooking up some raw ideas inspired by a few daily happenings for the time being. To keep practicing on the craft, as they say.”
Nene nodded, urging him to continue. “And so, seeing Tsukasa and Hinomori-san’s interaction was one of the things that inspired me to make a story about a pair of childhood friends who’ll end up becoming lovers when they realize their close friendship and remarkable chemistry was a true love all along. Of course, there is a dragon they have to fight and probably the apocalypse too that I’ve conjured up from my imagination,” he smiles proudly summarizing his working idea. "As such, I recorded every ounce of their interactions I could witness and study their behaviors in order for me to write my characters."
Nene blinks, feeling like she sort of understood Rui’s motives but some things left her confused. “So… that’s why you were documenting Tsukasa and Hinomori-san?”
“Yes!”
“And you’re basing your protagonists on them, because they’re childhood friends and they have a good friendship that could also have the potential to be romantic. Am I getting that right?”
“That’s right!” Rui affirms, “Both their background as childhood friends and their current close friendship were keys to my new story. Besides, I don’t have many other options in observing a dynamic between a boy and a girl who grew up together.”
Nene blinks twice again. This time, in visible confusion. “Rui don’t you think you and I would–I don’t know…fit the image you wanted?”
“Hm?” Rui widened his eyes. It was his turn to feel confused. “What do you mean?”
“I mean–” Cutting herself off, Nene shakes her head, blushing apparent on her cheeks. “Actually, nevermind. You do what you need to do.”
“Wait, you were saying something?” Rui wanted to press on.
“I-it’s nothing!” Nene says, flustered. “Looks like Nenerobo’s fine now. I should go do some self practice. See you tomorrow.”
Before Rui can ask any more questions, Nene leaves in lightning speed with the activation of Nenerobo. Thus, leaving Rui to think by himself.
Contemplating, Rui wondered what Nene could have possibly meant. They were just talking about their friends’ dynamic and how two childhood friends interacting at present helped Rui shape the characters and—
“Hm,” Rui furrows his brows at the sudden realization. “Perhaps I put too much effort into this when I could have written it based on mine and Nene’s experience. But why did that thought slip from me, I wonder…”
Shaking his head, he decides there was no point in pondering further lest, he gets to a realization that might be hard for him to contemplate by himself.
“Fufu, you know what? Let’s just keep it that way~”
