Notes:

I forgot to mention this on my last fic, but my house almost blew up, after I posted my first fic. The fanfic writer curse is real 😭

Work Text:

Dazai couldn’t sleep, especially not when he was in someone else’s bed, let alone Chuuya’s bed. He stared at the ceiling, but snuck occasional glances at Chuuya’s sleeping form. He looked peaceful, it was a strange, but beautiful sight.

“Chuuya is asleep, so there really can’t be any harm in just looking at him for a while, right?” Dazai thought, as he turned onto his side to face Chuuya and smiled. He’d always been alluring to Dazai, but he looked even better up close. Chuuya was beautifully human and it simply made Dazai love him even more. He’d never really been in Chuuya’s presence, when everything was so calm and it was something Dazai didn’t want to give up.

After some hesitation, Dazai reached out his hand and cupped Chuuya’s cheek in his hand, then began to rub it with his thumb. He knew Chuuya would’ve probably slapped his hand away, if he was awake, so Dazai decided to not waste this chance. Dazai wouldn’t be surprised, if Chuuya kicked him out, once he woke up. Dazai wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about returning to his shipping container, so he stayed quiet and on his best behavior, as he held out hope that Chuuya would appreciate his efforts and let him stay, at least for a little while.

After a few minutes, Dazai went to retract his hand. Dazai froze, as he saw Chuuya put his hand over Dazai’s to keep his hand on his cheek.

“Don’t stop.” Chuuya muttered sleepily, as he kept his hand firmly over Dazai’s. Chuuya opened his eyes slowly and laughed, as he saw the dumb look on Dazai’s face. Dazai’s face was slightly flushed, as he avoided eye contact, but kept his hand on Chuuya’s cheek as requested.

“Have you been awake this whole time?” Dazai asked sheepishly, but after a moment Chuuya slowly shook his head.

“No. I only woke up a few minutes ago.” Chuuya spoke quietly, as he moved closer to Dazai. Dazai tensed up slightly and kept his eyes averted, clearly embarrassed.

“You’re not mad?” Dazai asked softly, as he began to rub Chuuya’s cheek with his thumb again. Chuuya removed his hand from Dazai’s, then brought it to Dazai’s chin. He gently directed Dazai to look him in the eyes, as he shook his head again.

“Why the hell would I be mad? You haven’t done anything wrong.” Chuuya spoke with a confused tone, as he made Dazai keep eye contact with him. Dazai hesitated, but Chuuya gave him a look of reassurance, one he didn’t see often.

“I thought that you don’t like it, when I touch you. I guess I just assumed you would be mad-” Dazai muttered softly, but was swiftly cut off, as Chuuya pulled him in and pressed their lips together. Chuuya’s lips were surprisingly soft and it made Dazai’s stomach flutter. Dazai closed his eyes and brought his other hand up to cup Chuuya’s other cheek, making sure he couldn’t break away yet.

The kiss was even softer than Chuuya’s lips. Neither of them were used to being this soft with each other, but it was a good change of pace. After a few more moments, they both pulled away and opened their eyes, as they took deep breaths.

“Dazai,” Chuuya spoke softly, immediately catching Dazai’s attention. Dazai nodded, letting Chuuya know he was listening. “I hate to ruin the moment, but god you need some damn chapstick. Your lips are dryer than a fucking desert.” Chuuya teased, as he chuckled and smiled.

“Hey, my lips aren’t that chapped! Don’t exaggerate!” Dazai laughed, as he ruffled Chuuya’s hair. Chuuya sighed exasperatedly, as he pulled Dazai’s hands away from his hair.

“I beg to differ.” Chuuya rolled his eyes, but went silent after a moment, only just completely processing what he had done. He immediately covered his face with his hands, but Dazai quickly grabbed his hands and pulled them away from his face.

“Hey, if I don’t get to look away, then you don’t either!” Dazai pouted, as he cupped Chuuya’s cheeks with his hands again. Chuuya looked at Dazai with an expression that Dazai could only have described as petrified. Dazai frowned for a moment, before an idea dawned on him and he pulled Chuuya’s face closer, until their lips met again. Chuuya didn’t know that it was even possible for a kiss to be even softer than the first one, but somehow it was. This kiss lasted a few seconds longer, but those seconds felt like hours to them. Soon, they reluctantly pulled away and just stared at each other silently.

Dazai mindlessly rubbed Chuuya’s cheeks with his thumbs, while they relished in their peaceful silence. Chuuya rarely saw Dazai genuinely smile, even though Dazai was most genuine around him. His smile was beautiful, which made Chuuya wish he would do it more.

“This is strange.” Chuuya spoke quietly, finally breaking the silence. Dazai furrowed his eyebrows, as he kept his gaze fixed on Chuuya.

“A good kind of strange or a bad kind of strange?” Dazai asked softly, as he kept rubbing Chuuya’s cheeks. Chuuya paused for a moment, as he tried to find the words to describe how he was feeling. He hadn’t hated this intimacy, even though it was nowhere near normal for them. It felt more like something he had always missed in his life and now that he’d had a taste of it, he didn’t know if he could go without it.

“A good kind of strange.” Chuuya answered, after some thought. Dazai smiled again, which only made Chuuya more desperate to see that expression on Dazai again.

The room went silent again for what felt like forever. Chuuya and Dazai both felt their eyelids getting heavier, as the night went on. Chuuya was the first to fall asleep, but Dazai wouldn’t even have noticed, if it weren’t for Chuuya’s loud snoring. Dazai chuckled at the sound and stayed awake a while longer to watch over Chuuya, but he too eventually succumbed to sleep. Surprisingly, they managed to sleep for the rest of the night with no issues, which was unusual for them, but nice.

Chuuya expected to wake up in an empty bed, just like he had before, whenever Dazai would come over to take care of him. To his surprise, once Chuuya had woken up, he realized that not only was Dazai still there, but they had managed to get wrapped around each other in their sleep. It was definitely different, but it was a different that Chuuya wouldn’t mind getting used to.

Notes:

They make me actually miserable.
