The frosted twigs and leaves crunched under Trevor as he rolled over yet again. He had tried laying on his back, side, front, even sitting up, but nothing was comfortable. Not that he could really tell due to just how fucking cold it was. Usually his fur cloak would be enough but it seemed the universe was, yet again, determined to fuck him over.
As he rolled over again his booted toes came into contact with something firm.
“Ow!” Sypha grumbled.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, be asleep. You’ve been tossing and turning so much I’m surprised you haven’t attracted any hordes of monsters.” She hissed, keenly aware of the blanketed Alucard close by.
“Easy for you to say, it’s fucking freezing.”
“Really? I wonder why that could be? It’s almost like it’s winter!”
Trevor rolled his eyes and heaved a sigh.
“Just our luck the nearest town was raided.”
“I’ll admit, it hasn’t exactly been… ideal.”
Trevor rolled onto his stomach, propping himself up with his elbows to better look at the red haired woman beside him.
“Ideal? We’re out here in the middle of fucking nowhere with the closest hope of food, shelter or rescue diminished to a smolering heap. Not ideal doesn’t half cover it.”
“What? Does the big, strong Belmont need rescuing?”
Sypha cocked her head as a devious grin crept up her face. In the dim firelight Trevor could make out the laughter lines by her eyes as she did so. He smiled to himself before shaking his head.
“No, but some booze and four walls wouldn’t have gone amiss.”
“Pfft. You’ve had more than enough beer for a lifetime.”
“How would you know? You’ve hardly seen me drink!”
“I don’t need to, you reek of beer so bad I could practically smell it when you found me as a statue.”
“Oh fuck off! That wouldn’t even- that’s not physically possible… right?”
Sypha snickered as she rolled over onto her stomach, mirroring Trevor’s position.
“That’s just how bad you smell! It can break through solid stone, it’s impressive honestly.”
“Not as impressive as how loud you both are.” A tired voice broke through the playful atmosphere as a very awake Alucard rolled over to fix both of his chatty campmates with a glare.
“Do you plan on defeating Dracula on no sleep?”
“No, it’s just too cold to sleep. Also, Sypha started it.” Trevor pointed an accusatory finger at her like a small child blaming the family pet for a broken window. She let out an affronted gasp before giving him a playful shove.
“I did not! You kicked me. How is that my fault?”
“You didn’t need to lie so close to me!”
“Well maybe I was cold too!”
Alucard let out a sigh before rising to his feet, gathering his bedding and moving towards the arguing pair. Before Sypha could shove Trevor again Alucard tossed his bedroll to the ground between them before he flopped down onto it.
“If you insist on squabbling like children I’ll just have to keep you two separated.”
“That’s fine with me.”
“Good!”
“Fine!”
In almost perfect unison Sypha and Trevor grabbed their blankets and aggressively rolled over to face away from the half vampire barrier. A harsh gust of wind seemed to blow right through them, causing Sypha’s teeth to chatter and Trevor to groan in annoyance.
“Oh for the love of- just come here would you?” Alucard snapped.
Sypha wiggled backwards until she was nestled with her back against Alucar’s chest. She shifted against him, cocooning herself in her blanket in the process to get comfortable before letting out a sigh.
“Better?”
“Much, thank you!” She cheerily replied before hiding her nose under the covers once more.
Alucard cast a glance over his shoulder at the shivering Belmont.
“Are you going to join us or is your pride worth freezing over?”
Trevor considered for a moment before yet another gust of wind blasted him. Grumbling under his breath he bundled himself up in his blanket and scooted closer to the huddled pair. He was close enough he could see Alucard shiver as his breath just barely ghosted over the skin on his exposed neck.
Hesitation gripped him; sure they’d huddled for warmth before but usually Sypha was in between him and Alucard. Now that he was closer he could make out the details of his face. His ridiculously long eyelashes, the way that the hair close to his face curled up, framing his face perfectly. No man could or should look this perfect.
“What, nervous Belmont?” Alucard’s taunt cut through Trevor’s thoughts.
Taking his words as a challenge, he threw an arm over the half vampire, pulling himself closer and burying his face in his shoulder. Alucard huffed a small laugh.
“Shut up already, would you?”
“That’s rich coming from you.” Sypha’s sleepy voice grumbled. “And stop hogging Alucard.”
She threw her arm over Alucard for good measure, bringing herself even closer. Her knuckles brushed against Trevor’s hand before tangling her fingers with his.
“I’m not hogging him! You stop hogging the blankets!”
Despite his words he gave her hand an affectionate squeeze. Alucar’s eyes followed the motion before chuckling and getting comfortable between the two humans.
“Honestly, what am I going to do with you two?”
“Be quiet and let us sleep?” Trevor rumbled as sleep threatened to overtake him.
“But I wasn’t the one who-”
He was cut off by a quiet snoring coming from directly behind his ear. A quick turn of his head confirmed that Trevor had already passed out.
“Unbelievable. How do you put up with him, Sypha? Sypha?”
As he turned to look at the woman in front of him he was met with the sight of Sypha fast asleep with her face squished against her pillow. Careful to not disturb either, Alucard left a gentle kiss on both of their foreheads before settling back into the coziness of the cuddle pile.
“Good night you two.”
