Work Text:

Marinette startled awake at the sound of a loud crash and immediate swearing.

Her heart raced as she swiftly got out of bed, adrenaline pumping.

Alya's voice echoed in her head telling her ‘I told you so!’

Her best friend could tease her later after she dealt with her intruder.

Yes, Gotham was crime ridden. Yes it was dangerous. Yes it had freaky rogues and furries that jumped from rooftop to rooftop.

But wasn't it a little hypocritical considering she had probably been considered a part of the rooftop crusaders too once upon a time?

Marinette reached for the baseball bat her papa insisted she have when she had moved.

She'd thank him when she visited for the new year.

Stealthily creeping through her apartment she followed the distinct sounds of swearing into her measly kitchen.

The blood dripping on the tile did nothing to ease her fear and worry.

Anxiety was her closest friend, second to Alya.

Marinette took a deep breath before jumping around the corner and swinging the bat at the adversary.

Her war cry was nothing compared to the screech the intruder let out.

The bat hit its intended target and she gasped as the body hit the floor. Blood began to pool and despite reminding herself that there was no way a bat could do that, she panicked.

She felt shock take over as the bat slipped from her fingertips, “Oh my gods I killed a man…”

The man in question groaned which drew her attention to him, relief flooding her that she hadn't accidentally killed him.

Blood was still pooling rather fast…

For the first time she noted he was in some sort of suit.

Once more, dread filled her.

She hit Red Robin over the head with a bat.

Red Robin was bleeding on her floor.

What would Batman say?

Another groan of pain emitted from the barely conscious man which thankfully snapped her out of her thoughts.

She looked at him, “Okay Marinette, there's a vigilante bleeding out on your floor. What should I do?”

The man said nothing and she noticed he had gotten paler.

“Probably should make sure he doesn't die, shouldn't I?”

Nodding to herself she ran off to the bathroom for the medical kit her maman insisted she bring.

Marinette put a great deal of effort into not processing that Red Robin was on her floor dying.

She couldn't exactly afford to take the time to panic now could she?

Stealing herself, she re-entered the kitchen and threw her towels down so they could soak up the blood.

Kneeling next to him she moved to turn him onto his back before pausing.

It'd probably be good to let him know what she was doing…

“Okay… I'm- uh, going to roll you onto your side? Then I'm gonna try and stop the bleeding… somehow?”

While she and Chat had patched up wounds before, they'd never had to do anything this… extensive. Ladybug's Miraculous Cure usually made it easy to brush off major injuries.

Carefully she grabbed his shoulder and heaved till he was laid flat on his back, a few groans let her know he was still alive.

Scanning his body she found the cause for all the blood fairly fast.

A bullet wound.

Resisting the urge to vomit, she held her hand near unsure of what to do.

Red Robin suddenly shifted and looked at her sluggishly before opening his palm to reveal the bullet.

Marinette felt sick.

This really sucked.

She had an exam tomorrow- no wait, today.

Sighing, she nodded and began packing the wound with gauze like her brief first aid class had taught her.

With every pained grunt she winced, sympathetic to the man's pain.

Eventually she was pleased to see the lack of blood, even if it was temporary, and carefully took some medical tape and began taping over the wound like a child discovering stickers for the first time.

It was at least four in the morning and she really didn't have time for this.

Red Robin at this point was blearily looking at her, which was quite creepy if she did say so herself.

Standing for the first time in at least an hour had her legs aching and she stretched, yawning at the wave of exhaustion hitting her.

Looking towards the vigilante on her kitchen floor she gave a small smile, “I'm glad you're not dying, goodnight.”

Like a zombie she made her way back to her bed and crashed into it, hoping it was all some twisted dream.

By the lack of blood the following morning she had originally agreed.

Then she saw the lack of a window and groaned.

Just her luck.

Although, by the time she got back from her exam, a replacement window had been brought to her apartment as well as a flower bouquet with a card.

‘Thank you for helping, sorry I crashed into the wrong apartment.’ - R.R.

She smiled, at least he was considerate?

Within an hour of being back home the new towels she had definitely not ordered arrived.

Marinette supposed the vigilantes weren't all bad.

Though she prayed to any of the gods that they wouldn't bust through another window…

Notes:

Once more I reiterate, hope this wasn't bad cuz I was not awake during its creation. Tomorrow I get busy. :p
