Summary
“I’m glad you called, love." Henry says, "I’ve had a ghastly morning and I rather think that hearing your voice was the only way to make me feel calmer.” He retrieves his phone from where it’s resting on loudspeaker on his bedside table and sits down heavily on the bed, cradling it in his hands as if it were Alex’s head in his lap instead.
There’s an instant edge to Alex’s voice when he says “Sweetheart, what’s going on? You’ve barely been back in London for a few hours; can’t they give you a break?” Henry can feel Alex’s anger rising.
“I know,” Henry sighs, long-suffering, “as soon as I landed, Shaan met me with a message from Her Majesty, requesting an audience with me. In a few hours.”
Or: Henry has a meeting with the Queen which threatens to change the course of Henry & Alex's lives.
