Chapter 1: Bus ride

Chapter Text

The alarm suddenly went off and woke Edgar up, making him almost jump out of his bed, as if he didnt hear this god forsaken alarm every single day of his life. He aggressively turned it off and layed down again.

He spent the next 5 minutes rolling around in bed, postponing the inevitable fate of actually getting up. He grabbed his phone and saw Colette texting him, just random stuff. She kept sending messages so he just started ignoring them, despite the constant buzz of the phone. As his second alarm warned him that he needed to get ready, he sighed heavily and slowly started dressing up.

He changed his sleep shirt for his usual long-sleeved t-shirt plus Bad Randoms shirt combo, put his skinny jeans on, and went to the bathroom. It's not like he was finished dressing up, but he preferred to wash his face and teeth to wake himself up before anything, even though his eye bags did not go away with the cold water.

After that, he grabbed his usual eyeliner and carefully lined the underline of both his eyes, and smudged it a bit with his finger.

He sat down on the toilet lid and grabbed the nail file and the black nail polish, carefully taking care and painting each and every one of his nails.

He always really liked taking care of his nails, and his body in general. Not everyone wakes up an hour earlier than everyone else just to file their nails and put accessories on, but he had gotten used to it.

He got up and grabbed his hairbrush, starting to brush all of his hair to the left, as he always did. He wet his hands and brushed through his hair too, making it stay in place before putting some hairspray on it.

Then, he went back to his room to finish changing. Even though at the start he didn't like it, he grew quite fond of the schools red-vest uniform, and thanked the gods that was the only requirement. He put the vest on and also his belt, to then move onto all his little accessories — His cuffs, ear piercings, rings, necklaces, and the pin on his vest — and after grabbing his backpack and, most obviously, his scarf, he was ready.

He walked to the nearest bus stop, and prepared himself to face his usual waiting companion: Fang.

Ok, it's not like he hated the guy. He actually did not care for him at all. Except for the fact that he was the crush of half the girls in the school and how egocentric, athletic, friendly, loud, and pretty he was, he had nothing to him. So Edgar didn't care.

Fang always greets him with a little wave when he gets to the bus stop, and then Edgar can just put on his headphones and forget about him. Except for today, because when he went to grab them from his pocket, he realized he forgot them at home.

Edgar cursed under his breath and his scarf lightly punched him on the shoulder. This was actually the worst thing that could happen to him. Not only did he have to listen to Fang, but he also couldn't stand all the noise the bus made, joined in by all the chatter…. It was basically torture. After hearing and seeing him, Fang spoke.

— What's wrong? Did you decide to talk to the Amazing Fang today?

He said with a grin, and Edgar wan ted to wipe it off his face with all his might. He looked away, not wanting to face the other.

— Forgot my headphones.

He dryly replied, frowning and staring at Fang out of the corner of his eye. If he didnt know how this guy was, he could've sworn Fang got a bit red and looked away.

— Well, since i know just how much the bus noises bother you,-

How does he know that.

— You can use my headphones… if you sit next to me. And we listen to my music together

Edgar looked up and back at Fang, who was smiling with his headphones in hand. Now not only was he shocked that Fang, out of all people, wanted to sit next to him, but also that he knew anything about him, specially the bus noises thing. He had only told that to Colette… of course.

He actually thought about it. I mean, if they were going to listen to music, it's not like they would talk to each other. Even if it was Fangs music, it was better than nothing.

— Ugh, ok I guess…

Fang celebrated with his fist and murmured a celebratory “Yes!”, and right after that, the bus finally arrived, it's brakes making a loud squeal as it stopped. Edgar covered his ears lightly, and Fang kind of empathically smiled at him.

As they got in the bus, and Edgar passed by the empty seat next to Colette where he usually sat, he glared at her. Colette smiled and mouthed “you're welcome”, and of course she did.

Edgar sighed and looked back at Fang, who was shooing away Buster, while making a “Shh” sign with his finger and giggling. As made his way over to him, Fang stopped giggling with Buster and the latter went over and sat next to Maisie.

Fang patted the seat next to his, and Edgar sat down and put his bag next to his legs. Just as he did, Fang handed him one of the earphones, and the Bus started moving.

Edgar took the earphone and placed it in his ear, as Fang quickly put his playlist on shuffle and hit play. Fang set the phone in between them, and turned to look at the window, while tapping the floor at the rhythm of the music. Edgar guessed Fang didn't know he could see him looking at him out of the corner of his eye from time to time, but he didn't really care. People staring at him was nothing new anyways.

The songs Fang had in his playlist weren't bad at all, Edgar even listened himself to some of them. It was a bit strange that even his favorite song was in there.

It was actually pretty normal until one song made Edgar look at the boy next to him.

Emo boy – Ayesha Erotica

Fang didn't even seem to realize, as he even more excitedly kept tapping at the song's rhythm, and he didn't stop until Edgar tapped his shoulder and looked at him with a smirk and an eyebrow up. The second Fang realized what song it was, he suddenly went very red, with his eyes wide open. He quickly grabbed his phone and skipped the song, and slowly looked back at Edgar, scratching the back of his neck. Edgar looked at him and laughed, and all of Fang's body visibly relaxed.

— Bad moment for that one to play…

— Yeah, insane “coincidence” right?

Edgar said sarcastically, still smiling. Fang laughed a bit, and they both ignored the way Colette watched them from afar. Suddenly, the bus came to a stop, and they realized they were already at school.

Edgar got his earphone out but and gave it to Fang, but as he waited for everyone else to get off to he could get up, the other spoke again

— You're not as mean as i thought you were

— You're not as annoying as i thought you were, either

At that, Fang made himself look as dramatically offended as he could. Edgar rolled his eyes, and crossed his arms.

— How dare you say that about THE Fang?

— Maybe you are a bit annoying, actually

Edgar said, smiling just a bit, before grabbing his backpack and getting up. He had already started walking down the bus, when he heard Fang.

— See you later, emo boy!

As much as Edgar didn't want to acknowledge it, Colette wouldn't shut up about how red he got.
