Chapter Text
“Fucking finally!”
The fight was over. What Dynamight shouted into an empty, destroyed street was running through the mind of every hero who was still standing there. Between them, Red Riot and Chargebolt smirked. The villain wasn’t especially powerful, but he was cunning and annoying, playing with heroes for almost five hours before they got to an actual fight.
“Aaand I am not dealing with that after all of this.” Kaminari pointed towards the group of reporters. They were already trying to push toward them through police and medical stations that were being prepared for civilians as well as heroes.
“No one is dealing with that shit. Let’s go.” Katsuki was about to leave the other way. As he turned around sharp pain shot from his shoulder to his spine. He stopped, clutching his shoulder as he groaned. “Fuck.”
“Looks like you are dealing with that after all.” Kaminari laughed. He patted Bakugo on the back, ignoring the groan of pain that the other blond let out.
“You should go get yourself checked out, Dynamight.” Uraraka joined as she pushed past them, running before the reporters as well. She was a hot topic in magazines after she finally broke between the top ten pro heroes.
“Yeah, man.” Kirishima agreed, having the heart to actually look worried. “You know your right arm never healed properly after the war, it might be something serious.”
“It’s gonna be just stained muscle or something. Not a big deal.” Katsuki protested as he tried to roll his shoulder again. The same sharp pain cut through his muscles.
“Go get it checked. We’ll wait for you in the agency.” Kirishima assured him and shouted after Denki to wait for him.
With a roll of his eyes, Katsuki prepared himself for the onslaught of questions that would soon drown him. With a deep breath, he turned towards the ambulance standing at the side. For now, the reporters were holding back. At least they could respect a medical emergency.
Well, an emergency was probably a strong word for this. Paramedics confirmed that for him after a quick check-up. It was just the same old wound coming back to life. He was good to go and ordered to rest for a day or two.
The second he stepped his foot out of the ambulance, the cameras flashed into his face. So many annoying voices were giving him a headache. He was just tired. And all of those questions… he just wanted to go home and sleep finally.
“Dynamight! Dynamight just wait a second!”
No way would he wait for someone to bother him.
“Why did it take six pro heroes to catch that villain? Was he that powerful or are our heroes just getting weaker?”
The audacity… Katsuki was going to murder someone.
“Do you think your quirks were compatible with the villain? Wasn’t there anyone who would deal with him quicker?”
There was. But he retired already. And no one would bother him until the world was ending. Katsuki certainly wouldn’t… for the peace in his own family.
“What do you have to say to the newest article in Hero’s Secrets? Are the assumptions true?”
Just hearing the name of the biggest gossip magazine made the hair stand on the back of his neck. Why couldn’t people keep their noses out of his business?
“Doesn’t it bother you that all anyone talks about when they talk about you are your possible love interests?”
Yes, it very much did! He had a name and a hero career that he worked hard for. And all he was for media was just one more figure in a play of match-up.
“No, because they are just love interests... I am Bakugo Katsuki.”
And maybe he was feeling petty. Maybe he wanted to end the gossips. Maybe he was just tired.
“And anyway…” he turned around. One of the cameras was going live, he was sure of that. “Once people know the truth, they will be much more interested in my husband.”
Screw the peace in the family.
Just to prove his point, he tugged at the chain around his neck. Hidden beneath his shirt, was a silver ring. A wedding band, hiding there for a few years now.
And the hell broke loose around him.
More questions were thrown his way with more urgency. He was sure some of the standby civilians, probably fans, were screaming. One was even crying. As if someone poured a bucket of ice-cold water over him, he realized what he had done. What he had said.
“No more questions!”
“Wait, Dynamight!” But he didn’t listen. He was already speed-walking towards the only familiar face left on the battlefield. By the shock on his face, he heard the whole thing.
“He’s gonna kill you.” A smirk cut through freckled cheeks. Bakugo was a bad influence on this man.
“Shut up, Deku.” And just because he could, he pushed the smirking face away from himself, messing with his green curls in the process.
He wanted to live in a false reality for a little bit longer. In reality where he didn’t just reveal his most protected secret. With Izuku, he could live in that reality. Izuku was an exception. He was the only one allowed to know about this secret.
They needed a witness at their wedding after all.
“Promise to bury my dead body if I don’t show up to work tomorrow?” He added in a whisper.
“The medics told you to rest so you are staying home tomorrow. And don’t worry, when he will be done with you, there will be no body left.” Deku’s laugh rang in his ears the rest of the way towards their agency.
It was a busy place. Even if the Wonder Duo agency belonged to both of them, they were both its founders, they decided early in their careers to separate it into two functional parts. That meant twice as many people in one building.
Deku was in charge of Rescue teams. Katsuki was the leader of the Villain Control. Basically, while Bakugo’s teams were working on catching the bad guys, Deku’s people made sure that no one was harmed in the process. And for the last four years, it worked perfectly.
“Let me know if you are still breathing when you get home, Kacchan.” The green-haired man waved as he separated from Bakugo in the hall of their agency. Katsuki watched as Deku took the elevator to the offices on the top floor. Then he headed towards the changing rooms on the first floor.
“DUDE!”
Katsuki groaned in the doorway, contemplating if he even needed a shower and clean clothes before heading home. The TV in a corner of the room was switched to the news, playing the recap of their fight. And a recap of Bakugo’s confession.
Kirishima and Kaminari were already waiting for him.
“Bro, are you actually married?” Kirishima asked putting on his normal clothes as his shift was over, the same as Katsuki’s. The red eyes dropped to Bakugo’s chest, where the ring was shining in the bright light of the locker room. Katsuki noticed it.
Eijiro was his best friend for almost ten years. And Katsuki would be stupid if he didn’t hear the words that weren’t said aloud.
…how come I didn’t know about that?
“Screw that man! You are gay?” At that Katsuki actually stopped to look at Denki, not believing the question he just heard. Kirishima did the same and after a while, a little smile tugged at his lips.
“How stupid can you actually be?” Katsuki asked Denki, who was still in his hero costume. He was supposed to have another hour of patrol with Sero today.
“What?” Denki looked honestly confused.
“Your gaydar is broken, man. If you thought this man is straight, then there is no saving you.”
Speak of the devil. Sero appeared out of nowhere, ready in his hero suit. “And let’s go. If we will be behind schedule again, Midoriya is actually going to give us the extra patrols at the end of the month.”
“Yeah, yeah but… wait!” Before Sero managed to pull Kaminari out of the locker room, he turned back to Katsuki once more. “Sooo, when do we get to meet the secret husband?”
“Get out.” Katsuki groaned on the way to his locker. He started to peel off the sweaty hero suit off of his body. Denki’s protests were silenced when Sero actually pulled him out of the door. In the silence that spread through the room, he almost forgot that he wasn’t alone.
“Congratulations, anyway.”
Katsuki looked up, his eyes locking with the equally red ones of his best friend. Kirishima, prepared to head home, was sitting on a bench between lockers. He looked sad. But the expression on his face wasn’t the one that Katsuki expected. He was awaiting betrayal, pain caused by the broken trust in their friendship. But that wasn’t the case, Katsuki was sure. There was something else.
“How late am I with congratulations?” Kirishima asked, and although the smile on his face was fake he was trying to act as casual as possible.
“The marriage or the relationship?” Katsuki asked back. He threw the mask and the harness of his hero costume into his locker, together with the gauntlets.
“Both, I guess.”
“Three years.” He replied to the first part, throwing his shirt into his backpack. “And seven.” He added in a whisper, not daring to look at Kirishima.
“Wow.” Kirishima stood up, grabbing his own duffel bag from under the bench. He walked towards the door in silence. “You had a reason, right?”
…to keep it a secret...
“Eijiro…” The redhead turned to look at Katsuki. “I trust you with my life, you know that. You don’t know how much it hurts me, to keep it a secret.”
“Then why?”
Katsuki grabbed the towel from his locker and headed to the showers. When he came back from the shower, he found the locker room empty. It wasn’t a surprise. Guess he’s going home alone tonight.
