Work Text:
It had been so long since Joe last had the opportunity to dive and catch fresh seafood. While Joe swam around, Nicky made a small fire on the beach before sitting down to read his book. When Joe reemerged again, he felt all manly after capturing today's dinner, something Nicky could tell by the way Joe trotted back to the beach.
Nicky: "So, what's for dinner tonight?"
Joe: "Grilled octopus with flatbread and that sauce you invented back in the 15th century."
Nicky: "Sounds delicious, but I think that the octopus got other plans than staying for dinner."
Joe looked at his arm and saw that the octopus had wrapped its tentacles around his arm.
Joe: "It tickles."
Joe smiled before he got loose from the octopus' tentacles.
Joe: "Have you seen my knife?"
Nicky: "Can't say that."
Joe put the octopus in a bucket before he searched through his backpack for his knife.
Nicky: "Uhm, Joe?"
Joe: "Just a moment, Babe. Then I'll kiss you."
Nicky: "I can't wait because you're a great kisser."
Joe smiled and winked before he returned to search for his knife.
Nicky: "I just wanted to tell you that I was right about the octopus having other plans than staying for dinner."
Joe turned around and saw that the octopus somehow had knocked over the bucket and was on its way back to the water.
Joe: "You know what, Nicky?"
Nicky shook his head as he closed his book while Joe sat down next to him.
Joe: "It was all a part of my plan to let the octopus escape."
Nicky placed his head on Joe's shoulder while Joe took Nicky's hand in his.
Joe: "Because it gives me the time to enjoy the sunset with you. Isn't it beautiful?"
Nicky: "Only because I'm watching it with you."
Joe: "And you say you aren't an incurable romantic?"
Joe placed his head over Nicky's head.
Nicky: "I learned from the best because I still say you turned me into one."
Joe: "I still say we learned from each other. A thousand years ago, we would never have sat down together to watch a sunset."
Nicky: "Agreed. Look there. Isn't it beautiful?"
Nicky pointed at a bird flying over the water. They sat like that until the sun was gone. Then, they ate dinner, which was scrambled eggs, Nicky's sauce, flatbread, honey, nuts, dates, figs, oranges, and baklava for dessert.
