Work Text:
Masterfully born from marble
Radiant and wonderful,
The likes of which remove the breath
From your lungs
A face made delicately in the stone
Nose and eyes soft, staring blankly
Into the universe
Peaceful and serene
Amongst the long forgotten Multitudes
In the museum
Hacked from a fallen cherry tree
Rough and worn
The wood rotted and fragile
Displaying the holes from
Ceaseless worms, bored deep
The face in the old wood
Splintered lips
Unsightly lines
Sap leaked from whittled eyes
Like tears
Marks from creatures
That made this tree their home
As years went by
Forming the perfect image
A life lived
