No, I didn't see the news

Summary:

10:32am
Elena: Caroline did you see the news??
10:33am
Elena: Caroline!!!
Elena: A bunch of people were murdered over in New Orleans.

Notes:

Partially inspired by the lyrics from Paris, partially inspired by a Pinterest post I saw ages ago that I can't find. This is super short but I thought it was funny, so enjoy :)

Work Text:

10:32am

Elena: Caroline did you see the news??

10:33am

Elena: Caroline!!!

Elena: A bunch of people were murdered over in New Orleans. Bonnie says they were witches.

10:35am

Elena: CAROLINE!!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS??

Elena: It must have been Klaus. Who else would it be?

11:12am

Caroline: Oh sorry I was busy. Why do you think it was him?

11:14am

Elena: Other than the fact that he is a raging psycho who just happens to live in New Orleans? No one has seen him in days, I checked with his brothers. He must be going on a murder spree.

Caroline: Are you sure? Maybe he was just busy with non-murdery stuff.

Elena: It was definitely him

11:16am

Elena: Sorry. I know you have a thing for him.

Caroline: I don’t have a thing for him wtf

.

“You don’t have a thing for me? And just when I thought our relationship was starting to get serious. You know, Caroline, you could have just told me.”

Caroline shoved Klaus from where he was sitting, peering at her phone over her shoulder.

“Stop peeking at my messages!” She huffed, repositioning herself on the bed.

“Apologies, love. I can assure you; those murders weren’t mine.”

“Yeah, I know. I was with you all night.”

“Indeed you were. I doubt I could ever forget that fact, Caroline, even if-“

Caroline shoved him again.

“Yeah, yeah. I know. You’re absolutely, vomit-inducingly in love with me. I don’t think you’re all that bad yourself. But they don’t know that. Everyone thinks you killed a bunch of witches.”

Klaus smirked, reaching out to still a frizzy curl that had been dancing across her forehead, caught up in the wind from the open window. She didn’t mind, really. It had been annoying her anyway.

“You don’t think I’m all that bad, huh?”

“So not the point, Klaus. What are we going to do?”

He paused for a moment, smoothing her hair.

“Whatever you want, love. We don’t really have to do anything at all, if you don’t want to. I don’t mind adding a few witches to my red ledger,” he smiled fondly, “especially if it means spending more time with you.”

Caroline considered his words for a moment. As much as she wanted to defend him- and, hey, he hadn’t murdered anyone in a while, he deserved it- she also really didn’t want to miss their booking at the catacombs.

She sighed dramatically, tossing her phone in the vague direction of her nightstand, and rolling to face him.

“It’s merely the price I pay for seven days in heaven.”

“SEVEN!? Niklaus Mikaelson, do not tell me you changed our flights. I have to be back in Mystic Falls tomorrow.”
