Work Text:

Daphne looked at the pregnancy test and didn’t know how to feel. On one hand it was Fred’s. The person she had loved secretly since she was five and he came into her life. But on the other hand she was only sixteen.

This was huge news. And at the worst time. They were on opposite sides of the war and how was she going to get word to him.

It had happened the night before he had helped Potter get to the Ministry by going into Umbridge's office.

Her brother Alex had invited her to go with him, Fred, George and a few other friends to the Room of Requirement and have a party and relaxation night without any of the house rivalries and picking sides.

Fred had stayed behind talking to her for hours and one thing had led to another and they had ended up sleeping together.

It was the most magical experience she had ever experienced and wished that it would turn into more. Now it had and she would have to say something to her family.

Gathering her courage she went down to the family room and told her family, not even noticing that Fred had just come in from the kitchen and heard everything.

Her family was supportive and said they would help her however she needed.

Fred left without saying a word after hearing the news and sent a letter to her to say he needed to see her urgently and booked a reservation in a restaurant in Knockturn Alley where they wouldn’t be seen but she still feels special.

Going to his mother and father he told them what had happened and asked for one of the rings they had kept aside for each of their children.

Picking an emerald and diamond platinum ring and prepared himself. He was going to do this without letting on that he knew that she was pregnant so that she didn’t know it was an obligation as well as because he loved her.

He didn’t want her to feel cheapened by this. He wanted her to feel the love he felt for her.

Meeting her at the restaurant, he waited until she had eaten something and then got down on one knee pulling the ring from his pocket.

“Daphne, from the moment I first met you I knew there was something special about you and that knowledge only grew as we grew. Please do me the honour of becoming my wife?” He said, a tear coming to his eye.

“Oh, Fred, I will! But before I do. I have something to tell you, I’m pregnant,” Daphne confessed.

“You are making me so happy Daph, no matter what happens with this war we will have each other and our families,” Fred said, slipping the ring onto her finger and then he pulled her into a hug and kissed her.

He convinced her that night to make it a quick wedding because they never know what’s going to happen in this war.

Their friends and family joined them at her manor to celebrate their wedding together in secret.

Then Fred had to go on the run and hadn’t seen her for a few weeks when he got an owl saying she needed to see him.

When she handed him back his rings and said she wasn’t pregnant that it was a mistake, he growled.

“Why are you doing this?” He asked.

“Because I know you knew about the baby and that’s why you married me, Alex told me and you shouldn’t have to be attached to me when there is no baby holding us together,” Daphne cried.

“Daph, yes I knew about the baby but that’s not the only reason I married you, I married with you because I have loved you for years and that’s why they all left us alone that night. Now put those damn rings back on and accept my love unless you don’t feel the same,” Fred confessed.

“I do Fred, I do, I feel the same way,” Daphne said.

“Good,” Fred said before kissing her, “Now but I have to leave again, it’s too dangerous for you to be seen with me at the moment.”

Daphne watched and hoped that this war would end soon because she couldn’t see him walk away again, not knowing how long it would be before she saw him again.

It was finally over, the war had ended and the good side had won. But nothing came without a price.

Fred had been severely wounded in the final battle and couldn’t walk.

Not that that mattered to Daphne. She was just glad he had survived and they could start their life together again.
