Work Text:

Hermione hadn’t realised just how much she had drunk until she tried to stand up, and stumbled.

It was all his fault. Marcus Flint just had to show up to the wedding when he hadn’t been seen or heard from in two years— since she walked in on him in the bathroom.

Hermione stepped into the bathroom in the middle of the night and didn’t catch on to what she was seeing at first. But then Marcus stepped out of the shower with nothing on and grabbed a towel.

“Oh Hi,” Marcus said as his eyes landed on her, “I thought I was the only one home.”

“It’s okay, I thought the same thing. That’s why I didn’t knock,” Hermione explained.

She hadn’t thought of him since they had moved in and had that one night together. She had purposely made sure to not be there when he was in residence.

“I’ll just go,” Marcus said and quickly moved out of the bathroom.

Hermione stumbled over to him and sat down beside him.

“Why did you never come back?” She asked.

Marcus peered around the room and then back at her, “I thought that was obvious, we were constantly avoiding each other. I didn’t want to make it awkward for you.”

“Well maybe you should have asked me first?” Hermione said.

“And what would you have done differently?” Marcus whispered, trying to be discreet.

“I would have sat down and had a conversation,” Hermione said, everyone started to stare at the pair as she was getting louder and louder with every word.

“And what would you have told me back then?” Marcus asked. Not even trying to keep her quiet now.

“That I love you, you big idiot!” Hermione yelled even louder.

“You love me?” Marcus asked in shock.

“Yes! That’s why I tried avoiding you at first. I couldn’t be in the same house with you without telling you and being humiliated,” Hermione confessed.

Marcus stood up, shaking his hand he grabbed her by the hand and pulled her out of the room so they could have some privacy.

Once they were alone, Marcus crowded Hermione against the wall, placing his hands on either side of her head.

“I love you too, Hermione,” he growled, “That’s why I ran. I knew you didn’t feel the same way so I didn’t want to be around when you brought someone else home.”

“Oh,” Hermione said, “Well what are we going to do now?”

Marcus paused for a moment and then said, “This.” As he leaned in and kissed her.

Hermione slowly wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him closer to her.

Maybe she should be glad she had all that elf wine, it had lead to this after all.

Marcus deepened the kiss for a few more minutes before pulling back and staring down at her.

“We will see where this leads later, but for now I want to take you back into the ballroom and dance with you where everyone can see your mine,” Marcus said.

Hermione just nodded and followed behind him. Finally giving into what she had wanted for years.
