Work Text:

Harry stuck his tongue out at Draco, his piercing green eyes dancing with mischief in the dwindling light.
Draco shook his head at his boyfriend's shenanigans, but a smile tugged at his lips.
He looked questioningly at Crookshanks in his hands, as if he held the answers. Crookshanks merely stretched his jaws in an enormous yawn, swishing his tail lazily. Harry ducked beneath a tree, picking up speed as they edged around the Hogwarts building.

“Harryyyy!” Draco whined, grabbing his boyfriend's hand to pull him to a stop. Harry finally paused, looking back at the pale boy trailing him.
Draco crossed his arms, planting his feet.

“I'm not going a single step more until you tell me where we're going!” He huffed, glaring at Harry expectantly.
Harry rolled his eyes.
“Draco! I told you already! It’s a surprise!” His tone was exasperated, but his eyes twinkled mischievously.
Draco didn’t move, continuing to glare at the Boy Who Lived haughtily.
Harry sighed, then grinned wickedly.

“Fine.” He shrugged. He lunged at the Slytherin before him, scooping him into his arms.

“H-harry! What are you doing?” Draco stammered, as Harry swung him around, carrying him into the night like a bride. Harry smirked down at him.

“Taking you away.” He said simply. When Draco crossed his arms bossily Harry’s amused grin returned.

“I'm taking you away!” He said again this time louder. Draco poked his arm.

“Harry!” He snickered, “someone’s going to hear you!”
Harry looked down at the Slytherin in his arms, and leaned in, teasing Draco with a light brush of his lips. Then he leaned away, earning a confused look from Draco.
Harry only smirked in response.
He looked up at the night sky.

“IM IN LOVE WITH DRACO MALFOY!” He shouted to the heavens, almost startling Draco out of his arms.
Draco stared at him, mouth open, trying to form the words that wouldn’t come.

Harry grinned down at him, kissing him fully this time. He watched the blush creep across his Boyfriend's face, his eyes filling with love for the Gryfindor above him. HIS gryffindor.

“P-put me -d-d DOWN!” He stammered, the blush still heavy.

Harry shrugged. “ ‘Kay.”

He dropped Draco onto the ground.

“HARRY!” Draco huffed, but his eyes were alight with laughter.

“What?” Harry asked, widening his eyes innocently, “I did what you asked!” He pinched his lips together to stop a smile escaping.

Draco rolled his eyes. “Whatever!” Harry offered his hand, and Draco took it, brushing off his cloak.

“Will you tell me where we're going now!?” Draco asked, punching Harry in the shoulder lightly.

“No need.” Harry murmured, gesturing to his right. “We’re here.”

In front of them stood the whomping willow, branches splayed threateningly. Draco shot a questioning look at Harry, but Harry just nodded, clicking his fingers to entice Crookshanks.

The fluffy orange cat trotted forward, his fluffy tail flicking back and forth lazily. Crookshanks slipped forward, and the tree sprang to life, its branches swinging madly at the small feline.

But Crookshanks merely mewed in annoyance and slipped between the tendrils, making his way to the knot in the trunk.

Immediately, the willow froze, the branches still reaching out for the cat.

Crookshanks, completely unbothered, sat down outside the tunnel, and began to clean himself.

Draco stared at Harry, eyes filled with questions, but Harry merrily smiled, bowing to Draco mockingly.

“My liege.” He teased, gesturing royally with his hand for Draco to enter the tunnel. Draco rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t help the giddy smile that crept across his face.

Inside, the tunnel was just as dark and damp as he remembered, and the smell of wet, peaty earth flowed freely from the tunnel.

Draco crawled up the tunnel, Harry just behind, the two of them moving in a comfortable silence. When they reached the landing, Draco was met with a flash of green. Slytherin banners blanketed every corner of the room, and right in the middle was a large, golden cake, in the shape of the almighty snitch.

As Draco turned in stunned silence to Harry, the gryffindor placed a tender kiss on his cheek, hugging him from behind.

“Happy birthday, Draco”
