Chapter Text

Stanley had woken up at the ungoldy hour of 6am, he would've liked to sleep longer, especially since the mystery shack was closed for the weekend. He grumbled and slowly got out of his half broken at the bottom bed, and walked downstairs into the kitchen to have his morning coffee. His twin brother, Stanford, was already in there reading a news paper.

He glanced over and nodded in confirmation that he was there, "Good morning, Stanley." He said with his usual seriousness to his tone.

Stan sat down and glanced toward the news paper, "What're ya reading?" He asked with a trace of curiosity, Ford shook his head. "Nothing much. Just a paper about this abandoned resturant." Ford replied casually. Typically, Stan wouldn't really care about some random ass resturant outside of Oregon, however he took a peak at the papers' images and saw some run down animatronics which piqued his interest.

"Where's the place at?" He questioned as he cross his arms, he already had some ideas. "Small town in Utah." Ford responded without even looking up at his twin brother. Stans mind began racing with ways to make buisness off of this so called resturant, and one involved stealing the animatronics. He grinned and yelled out, "Kids, pack your bags, we're driving down to Utah!"

Ford looked up, meeting his brothers gaze, "And...why are driving to Utah?" To which Stan leaned back in his chair, "You see my dear brother, sometimes a mans gotta do whatever he can to make money." This inflicted concern upon Fords face and he furrowed his eyebrows, "Stanley...please do not tell me you're going to attempt to do something to said abandoned resturant." He slowly said with many hints of concern.

Dipper was startled awake by the sudden yell from Stan, as was Mabel. She groaned and stuffed her face into her pillow, "I don't wanna get up.." To which Dipper did the same.

"Just ignore him, i'm sure he's not serious." Dipper rolled over and faced the wall, there was no way Stan was serious about driving to Utah, and that thought made both twins drift back to sleep.

Although they very second they fell asleep, Stan busted into the room, "Kids, did you hear me? We're driving to utah." Mabel sat up with her sleepy facial expression and yawned, "I thought you were joking.." She half replied through a yawn. Stan let out a laugh before throwing their bags on by their beds, "I don't care what you pack, just pack something." He said as he exited the room once more.

Dipper sat up still hafl asleep and glanced over at Mabel, so was packing the most unnesesary items possible, like gliiter, candy, more glitter, and then some cute sweaters and some other clothes. Although, Grunkle stan wasn't specific on how long they would be in Utah for, so Dipper decided to pack a few basic items along with some extras if they depended on it. Both of the twins were very sleepy still, as it was around 6:30 now. Stan came back into their room and grabbed their suitcases and walked off.

Dipper and Mabel glanced at each other, these two still had zero idea about why they were going to Utah of all places, but they didn't really want to know, more so they were actually a little surprised he wasn't already banned from the state in question.

It never took too long for Mabel to wake up in the morning, espically when going on a trip of any sorts. Dipper, on the other hand, was quite skeptical about why they were driving to Utah of all places. It seemed like a random and impulsive decison on Stans end, which it kinda was in a way. But, he decided to do as he told him and backed a few things to do.

Including the journal, another journal for writing, and a book about paranormal type things. It'll be a long 11-12 hour drive, so he wanted to make the best of it. The two were done packing, Mabel immediately grabbed her bag and ran downstairs, still in her pajamas. While Dipper did at least want to get dressed, as spending multiple hours on end in the car did not sound comfortable at all. He swifty put on a t-shirt with some shorts and headed downstairs. Dipper raised an eyebrow, "So, uh, why are we going to Utah?" He questioned, Ford just shrugged as Stan didn't bother answering. Mabel was saying goodbye to Waddles as you couldn't really own a pig in Utah, so she made sure to give him extra cuddles before she, along with her family, left on an exhausting road trip.

Once that ordeal was over with, the twins grabbed their bags which probably should've been put into the car a while ago and walked outside. They took one last glance at the Mystery shack and nodded at each other before getting into the car. The two had never thought in their wildest dreams that they would ride a bus up to Oregon from California..only to then drive to another state with their uncles. Mabel kept pinching herself occasionaly to make sure she wasn't dreaming., while Dipper wrote down in his spare notebook about thr surroundings. It was a way to pass time, as they were gonna be in for a long ride, the time it took there would depend on traffic once they got on to the highway.

Driving past the woods of Oregon really made Dipper realise what was happening, their parents had no idea they would be outside the state they were SUPPOSED to be in. But alas, there wasn't anything either twin could do about it. But just seeing the surreal sight of woods they've never seen before, and the parks that they'd drive by was also surreal. Oregon was big, and both of the twins were just realising this. They were about an hour into the drive, and they were already stuck in traffic.

Stanley hadn't anticipated this for whatever reason, despite living in Oregon himself, he still thought it would be traffic free. Thankfully, their exit wasn't too far up ahead from where they were in the car. Mabel started to get bored already, so she took out a notbook that Dipper didn't even know she packed, along with some art supplies and started drawing. She'd always been an art kid, so this wasn't surprising in the slightest.

Dipper just decided to pull out a book and read that for a while. It was decently long, and he wouldn't be finished with it within an hour or two. Mabel continued to draw while laying on her pillow. Because their uncles didn't really know when they'd arrive, they brought pillows and blankets in case it was late at night when they arrived into said town. Considering how boring the drive already was, Ford had no doubt the kids would fall asleep halfway through. He was more so focused on driving though while Stan held the map and told him where to be driving, which was a smart idea on Fords end.

If they were gonna be in the car for multiple hours on end, he wasn't letting Stan drive because of how terrible his driving skills were. And he didn't really want ot risk damaging the car while trying to get to some random town in Utah for Stan's profit.
