home is where the heart is

Summary:

“Da…” Chaisee murmurs. “Da…” Her little hands reach up to Phayu’s chest, resting next to her face as she sighs in contentment. She’s quiet for a little while, purring the way she’s been doing more often these days.

“My little Alpha,” Rain murmurs, caressing Chaisee’s cheek lovingly with his thumb.

Phayu chuckles, deep and loving. “You don’t know that.”

“Yes, I do,” Rain states, rubbing his cheek on Phayu’s shoulder. “I can sense it, the way I sensed it when I met you for the first time. She’s an Alpha through and through.”

I will never shut up about how loved the baby girl is, never

Work Text:

Unlocking the gate to Phayu and Rain’s house with his personalized security code, Sky walks up to the door. He’s a little earlier than he said he would – and with a little he means a good forty five minutes – but Rain surely doesn’t mind. Sky doesn’t mind waiting, he’s got all day! And besides, it’s only a little after 11AM, so they’ve literally got all day.

It’s the weekend and for once, he and Pai have no plans with Pai’s family. So Sky is free to hangout with Rain and his favorite little niece. They’d tried to make plans for weeks now, him and Rain, but both had been pretty busy with work and family, and really just life. Seeing each other over facetime just isn’t enough, or only meeting up for like an hour for lunch. It’s just not enough.

And Sky couldn’t wait to see Chaisee again. He’s missed her so much.

Toeing off his shoes, Sky steps inside the house. There’s soft music playing in the background while the curtains are half opened up, letting in the beautiful rays of sunshine coming from outside.

“Good morning, P’Phayu,” Sky greets the Alpha, who’s sitting at the dinner table, typing away on his laptop.

Phayu looks up and smiles warmly. “Good morning, Sky.”

“What are you working on?” Sky asks, walking up to Phayu and sitting down next to him. He doesn’t see Rain anywhere, so maybe he isn’t ready yet. Again, Sky doesn’t mind. He’s early and they have all day.

“The house,” Phayu says, turning his laptop to Sky for him to see.

Right, the house. The move. They’re designing a house together. Phayu and Rain’s house is and has always been a safe place for Sky. It’s big, it’s cozy, it’s well looked after, it’s tidy, and most of all, it feels like home. Sky almost dreads the day they’ll move out and into the new place.

“It looks amazing, P’Phayu,” Sky says, mesmerized.

Phayu purrs deeply in agreement. “It does, doesn’t it? Rain designed most of it,” he responds, looking as fondly as ever when he talks about Rain.

Once upon a time, Sky hadn’t been comfortable hearing Phayu purr, nor hearing Pai purr. It’d been a sound too intimate for Sky to be able to handle, too loving for him to accept. Anytime Pai purred for him, Sky had to suppress shivers going up his spine. Worse even, was suppressing his instinct to grab Rain by the arm and run whenever he heard Phayu purr for Rain.

But with love and time – lots of time – the Omega was able to accept it. Now Sky’s used to it, loves hearing Pai’s soft morning purrs when he’s just woke up, his comfortable purrs when he cuddles up to Sky after a long day of meetings and he just wants to be with his Omega. Sky adores hearing Phayu purr for Rain, understands it’s a form showing his love for his mate. Best yet, Sky loves hearing Rain purr for Chaisee. It fills Sky’s chest with love and comfort, with trust and happiness.

After a few minutes, when he still hasn’t seen any sign of Rain, nor heard him or Chaisee’s usual laughter, Sky asks; “P’Phayu, where’s Rain?”

“In the nest with Chaisee,” Phayu answers immediately. “It’s still naptime.”

Oh. Sky hadn’t realized coming early meant arriving during naptime. Of course, he should have known.

“Right,” Sky says. “Well…” he trails off.

Phayu smiles softly, almost knowingly. “Want to join them?”

Sky’s heart surges at the suggestion, chest filling up with love and excitement as he nods eagerly. If there’s anything better than his own nest, it’s Rain’s.

“Can I?” he asks, looking at Phayu with wide eyes. Sky almost feels like he’s a teenager again, being invited into Rain’s nest for the first time.

Phayu nods with a smile. “Of course,” he says.

Sky quickly gets up and nearly runs up the stairs. The promise of the warm and comfortable nest drives him to get there faster than his feet allow him to, and Sky almost trips on the last step.

“Careful, Sky!” he hears Phayu’s voice from downstairs, but Sky doesn't answer. He wants to get to the nest as soon as possible.

“Rain?” Sky calls out softly, opening the door to his bedroom. “Rain?” But no answer comes. “P’Phayu said you’re here, can I– can I come in?”

Sky doesn’t usually need permission to enter Rain’s nest. He hasn’t needed it in years, not even back when they were in university.

Sky remembers the nest Rain made for him after– after what happened– after Gun had– The nest had been beautiful and warm, cozy and comfortable and so much Rain, that Sky hadn’t left it for days. Curled up in it, hidden away, safe.

Stepping into the room, Sky sees the curtains are drawn and only the nightlight on the headboard shining onto the bed. There, in the nest, curled up underneath a soft looking blanket, is Rain.

“Rain? Are you awake?” Quietly, Sky pads over to the nest.

The closer he gets, the clearer it becomes that, no, the Omega is not awake, he’s very much asleep. Soft snores can be heard coming from the nest where Rain is comfortably wrapped around Chaisee. The pup is curled up to Rain’s chest, while they both snooze, looking very comfortable.

Sky can’t hold back his soft coo. That’s his best friend, his best friend with his pup, fast asleep. Sky’s scent is so familiar to Rain that the Omega doesn’t even wake up to Sky entering his nest without his knowledge. Not even the pup stirs, she just keeps on snoozing and nuzzling her Papa.

It’s an adorable sight, one Sky can’t resist as he slowly and carefully crawls into the nest.

Being so close to them now, Rain’s soothing and calming scent almost overwhelms Sky. It doesn’t take long before Sky feels his own eyes fall closed every other second. He doesn’t mean to fall asleep, but Rain’s scent is so comfortable that it lulls him to sleep almost instantly.

It’s only when Rain yawns and stretches next to him, that Sky realizes he actually fell asleep.

“Sky?” comes Rain’s still sleep-riddled voice. “Hey, hey, Sky,” he continues and stretches some more before he sits up. “Oh man,” Rain yawns. “Did I fall asleep? What time ‘s it?” Rain looks down to where Chaisee is still asleep. He tucks her fuzzy and wild hair behind her ear, smiling softly.

Still a little out of it himself, Sky looks at his watch. Shit. It’s– “Half past 12,” Sky says. Did he really sleep for an hour?

“Oh, Sky, I’m so sorry,” Rain apologizes, looking very guilty. “I’m– I was just– Chaisee was up so early this morning,” he continues. “And when it was nap time I just– I don’t know, I must have fallen asleep too. I’m sorry, Sky, I knew we had plans.”

“It’s fine,” Sky murmurs. A yawn breaks free from his mouth while he nuzzles into the pillow, getting more comfortable. They could stay in the nest too, Sky doesn’t mind. It feels good, it feels warm, it feels safe. “I’m fine here too.”

“Are you sure?” Rain asks. His brows are pinched in guilt, his eyes still so sleep riddled as he struggles to keep them open.

“Yeah,” Sky murmurs again, already halfway back to sleep. “Yeah, ‘s totally okay.” He pulls one of the many blankets lying in the nest over him, curling in it and sighing in contentment. “‘m fine here.”

“Okay, Sky,” Rain says, and Sky’s eyes must have closed because he can’t see Rain anymore, but he can hear the smile in the Omega’s voice. “Nap time for Sky, huh?”

Sky only hums before sleep drags him under again.

There’s no better place on this earth than Rain’s nest. Okay, maybe his own nest and Pai’s arms but– Rain’s nest comes very close, and ever since Rain gave birth to Chaisee, Sky just hasn’t been able to resist the scent anymore. It’s everything he’s always been looking for, pure love and happiness, comfort and warmth and safety.

Sky has looked so long and hard for safety and now he’s found it, with Pai and with Rain, even with Phayu. Sky is safe, forever and always.

🌪️⚡

“I’m gonna get you!” Saifah yells playfully, crawling over the floor behind Chaisee.

The pup squeals loudly and crawls lightning fast away from him towards the makeshift goal formed by two dinner table chairs. Her adorable laugh and joyful screeches fill the living room.

“Who’s finishing first, is it Pup or is it Uncle Fah?” Phayu comments, looking at them fondly from where he’s seated on the couch.

“Me! Me! Me!” Saifah cheers as he slowly crawls behind Chaisee, trying his best to not win. Something something about being too tall and moving too fast. “Slow doooown, you’re too fast!” Saifah pouts.

It’s a wednesday afternoon where Saifah came to Phayu’s house to go over some important details for the upcoming race this friday. As the years have come and gone, so have the responsibilities. Both Alpha’s are way more involved with the races than when they were in their twenties, having become warm and entrusted acquaintances with Pakin. But that also means more work, more responsibilities, more planning, more meetings. Not that either of them minds.

Saifah loves coming over to Phayu’s house – and not just to see his niece. If he’s honest, he also misses his brother a lot. They’ve lived together nearly their whole lives, inheriting their parents’ house and living there until Phayu moved out with Rain. Saifah still lives at the inherited home, and sometimes it is a little lonely.

The first few months of being separated from his twin were terrible, for both of them. Less for Phayu who had Rain to keep him company, but still terrible. Adjusting to live without your other half, your twin, was a big step for both of them, one that took Saifah a while to come to terms with. So the Alpha doesn’t mind the increased workload. All the more reason to come over to his twin’s house!

“We have a winner!” Phayu cheers, whooping as he stands up and picks up Chaisee from the floor. “My champion,” he coos, kissing her cheek.

Chaisee bursts out into giggles and kicks her legs, overjoyed at winning and being in her Dada’s arms.

Meanwhile, Saifah lets himself fall backwards dramatically, spreading out on the floor like a starfish.

Phayu bounces the pup in his arms while she squeals and laughs. “You won, you won, you wooon,” the Alpha chants. “Who’s the bestest pup in town? Who’s the fastest and cleverest?” the Alpha sings songs, swaying them side to side a little. “Chaisee is!” While Phayu kisses and nuzzles the pup, scenting her thoroughly, Saifah cries out pathetically.

“My poor, old knees,” he whines, bringing his knees up before stretching out again.

Phayu snorts, looking down to where Saifah lays on the floor. “What was it you said?” he muses. “You’re in your thirties, not dead? Sure sounds like an old man talking right now.”

Saifah huffs in annoyance, but only a little, and more playful than anything. He is in his thirties, and he is still very much able to crawl around, thank you very much. Just– all these years of bending over engines, lying underneath cars and squatting to check tires is– well it’s getting to his body.

“Shove off, Yu,” Saifah growls playfully while he sits up on the floor. Making grabby hands for the pup, Saifah pouts at his brother. “Now, may I please cuddle my most beloved family member? I promised her victory cuddles if she won.”

Phayu snorts again and shakes his head in amusement, but hands her over to the Alpha with a fond smile, placing her gently in his arms.

Saifah places the pup on her feet in front of him, holding her firmly underneath her armpits to steady her. She can’t stand just yet, at least not on her own, but with a little help, she can balance on her feet already. She’s growing up so fast. Too fast.

“Okay, okay,” Saifah says. “You win, pup, you win.”

Chaisee squeals and claps her hands. She’s so incredibly fast, almost scary fast. From the moment she could lift herself up and explore their house, she’s been crawling anywhere and everywhere she could reach. Once, and only once, Rain had lost sight of her, fully panicking when he couldn’t find her anymore. He cried out and nearly howled at the thought of having left the door to the garden open and the pup going outside, while she’d only crawled over to where Phayu and Saifah had been sitting in the office, going over some papers.

Ever since then, Rain watches her like a hawk and demands everyone to do the same. He’s such a protective Papa, even worse than Phayu sometimes and that is something Saifah hadn’t seen coming.

“Saa,” Chaisee babbles, extending the vowel as she wobbles on her legs. “Saaaaaaa.”

“That’s me!” Saifah says excitedly. “Saifah, Uncle Saifah.” Chaisee claps her hands again and cheers.

“Saiiiiiifaaaah,” the Alpha says. “Try it, pup!” he encourages. “Saaiiifaaaah.”

“Saaaaa,” Chaisee gurgles again. “Sa, Sa, Sasasa!”

A deep purr comes from the couch, making both Saifah and the pup look up to where Phayu has sat down again. He’s looking at them with the fondest smile ever.

Saifah chuckles. “Sap,” he muses.

“Da!” Chaisee squeals and kicks her legs, trying to step into his direction, but almost immediately sinking to the floor.

“Pup,” Phayu instinctively answers the call. He scoots off the couch and sits down next to Saifah on the floor, pulling Chaisee onto his lap. She instantly tries to stand up again while Phayu only holds and steadies her, helping her onto her little feet.

“Such a good pup,” the Alpha purrs. “So smart, so strong already, hmm?”

God, Phayu is a terrific father. Saifah has always known he would be. Ever since they were kids, Phayu has always wanted a family with a mate of his own. Saifah had teased him with it for years, calling him tame and sentimental. Phayu had never cared about any of his teasing, shrugged off all the empty insults of ‘tame Alpha’ and ‘too old for his age’. Phayu had a goal in mind, and when his twin wanted something, he usually got it.

And for all the teasing and bullying his older twin about his wish, Saifah is damn glad it came true.

"Oh Sky," Pai sighs, looking at Chaisee with the most puppy look Sky has seen him have in a while. "Isn't she just adorable? I want one too."

A pup. Pai wants a pup. Sky wants a pup too. A little Pai toddling around the house, chirping and gurgling. Sky wants it so bad.

"She's the cutest," Sky says, diving in to smooch her puffy cheeks again. Chaisee squeals and giggles, her nose scrunching like her Dada's.

“What do you say, hmm? What about a pup of our own,” Pai asks, nudging Sky. “I love Chaisee, and I love Phayu and Rain, but imagine…” he continues, looking ever so dreamy. “Imagine our own pup, Sky. Our own pup!”

Sky’s heart sinks instantly. He wants that so so bad. He wants to have pups with Pai, wants to start a family, wants to see their pup grow up and settle into their little self, but–

But Sky can’t. Not anymore.

“Our little pup, crawling around the room, dressed in their little biker jacket,” Pai continues fantasizing. “Oh, Sky, they would be so cute, you know they’d be so cute!” The Alpha radiates happy pheromones, filling the room and overshadowing Sky’s souring scent.

“My mother would love them, my father would too,” Pai goes on, caressing Chaisee’s hair and cooing at her. “Plerng would pretend he doesn’t like them, but you know he’s a terrible liar.” Pai sighs in contentment. The Alpha is so wrapped up in their hypothetical future that he doesn’t notice Sky’s mood changing.

The image only tugs more on Sky’s heart, tugging it this and that way, dragging it through the dirt and ripping it apart. Sky’s scent sours so much that Chaisee next to them starts fussing.

“Uuuhhh,” she whines, squirming on Pai’s lap. “Uhhh!” Her chubby hands reach out toward Sky, making grabby motions for him. Comfort, she wants to comfort the Omega. The sentiment feels like a stab through the heart at the same time that it feels great.

“Sky?” Pai asks, suddenly concerned. “Sky, are you okay?”

No. No, Sky is not okay. He thought he was over it, that he’d healed, that the emptiness in his heart got filled with Pai’s love, with Rain’s love, by Chaisee’s existence, but it’s not and it never will. Tears fill Sky’s eyes as he thinks about the one thing he’ll never be able to give Pai: a real family.

Fuck Gun, fuck what happened to him. Fuck his body.

“My love?” comes Pai’s voice close to his ear. “Hey, Sky, darling, what’s happening? What’s going through your head?”

Everything and anything that he can’t have. Sky feels sad, angry and hopeless at the same time. Tears stream over his cheeks without his permission, and the Omega desperately tries to wipe them away, but they keep coming.

“P’Pai,” Sky sniffs, throat pulled tight. “I-I–”

“Darling,” Pai says soothingly. He grabs hold of Chaisee and scootches both of them closer to Sky, pressing their legs and thighs together. “Deep breaths, my Sky, deep breaths.”

Sky hadn’t noticed his breathing having picked up until Pai tells him to breathe. The Alpha shows him how to do it, breathing in deeply through his nose and out through his mouth. Sky tries his hardest to follow Pai’s example, doing his best to calm down and ease the hurt in his chest.

“There we go,” Pai says. The hand not holding onto Chaisee, who’s still squirming and reaching out for the Omega, caresses Sky’s cheek lovingly.

Slowly, too slowly, warmth seeps into Sky’s body again and spreads through his veins. Pai’s soothing scent helps calm him down and – weirdly enough – Chaisee’s presence and intense puppy scent cause Sky to eventually fully settle down.

“P’Pai,” Sky tries again, voice still trembling a little. “I-I want to give you a pup so bad but–” Sky swallows thickly.

Pai knows this already, they’ve spoken about it at length before. Sky had offered to let Pai go, to sever their bond and set Pai free to find a mate who could give him pups, but Pai had refused.

“Oh my darling,” Pai says and he sounds apologetic. “My Sky, I’m sorry I got– I got carried away, I–”

Chaisee breaks free from Pai’s hold and crawls over his lap to Sky’s, climbing onto the Omega and nestling onto his lap. She wiggles and squirms until she sighs contentedly, rubbing her cheek against Sky’s chest.

“I know you want pups, P’Pai,” Sky says, hand automatically coming up to Chaisee’s little back and rubbing over it soothingly. It’s not only soothing for her, but for Sky too, who feels his heartbeat slowing down as the pup purrs softly. “And– and I want pups too, I do, but–”

“Yeah,” Pai says, caressing Sky’s cheek. “Yeah I know, my Sky, but you know I’m happy with whatever you give me, right?”

Yes, Sky does. He knows. They’ve talked about other ways of starting a family too; adopting, surrogacy. Rain had even offered to carry for them, but Sky hadn’t wanted that. It would be a favor he’d never be able to repay.

Sky doesn’t like owing people favors. Not that Rain would hold it over his head, Rain would never do that. It’s just– Sky can’t have biological pups of his own.

“I want a pup,” the Omega starts. The pup in his arms rubs her puffy little cheek all over Sky’s chest, while she babbles incoherently. “I want–”

“Sky, I know, it’s okay, we can–”

“P’Pai,” Sky scolds him for interrupting. Sky frowns at his mate, who looks at him apologetically. “I want to start a family with you so… what if…” Sky’s heartbeat picks up at the thought of it. He hadn’t been ready before, hadn’t wanted to accept the fact that he’d never have a pup of his own, would never be able to make his father a grandfather. But you don’t have to be related to be family. Family goes beyond blood. Rain and Phayu feel like family and Sky is definitely not related to them. Chaisee is not his blood, but Sky feels very, very protective of her. He feels like she is his kin more than anyone has ever felt before.

And all because he helped a clueless boy with finding his classes on the first day of university all these many, many years ago.

Sky takes a deep breath and blows it out slowly. “What if we started looking into adoption?”

If it wasn’t for the sun already having set, Sky would swear it was rising again with how elated Pai looks. His face breaks out into a big, toothy smile and his eyes fill with joy and love.

“I would love that, my Sky,” the Alpha says sincerely. “You, me, and our future pup. I love them already.”

Sky has really lucked out with finding Pai. Or more like, Pai finding him. Never in a million years would Sky have thought he’d ever find love again, find a mate, find his mate after everything that happened to him. But Pai found him and never lost hope, no matter how many times Sky rejected him. Pai knew they were mates before Sky dared to dream he even had one.

But now, after years of feeling Pai’s genuine love and care, Sky feels ready to start the family he’s always been looking for.

His and Pai’s little family, part of a loving and warm pack.

🌪️🌧️

“Mmmh you smell so good, sweetheart,” Phayu murmurs as he sniffs up her delicious puppy scent mixed with baby oil. He ruffles his hand through her soft and fluffy hair as she sits comfortably on his arm.

“Daaaa,” Chaisee murmurs, nuzzling against Phayu’s chest as he walks them toward the couch in the bedroom and sits down.

The Alpha looks down to her and smiles fondly. “That’s right, pup, I’m your Dada.”

“Da…” Chaisee repeats, closing her eyes.

It’s been a while since the pup has started saying syllables. They don’t have real meaning yet, but they all know what she means when she says ‘Da’, or ‘Pa’. She even got as far as saying ‘Sa’ as in ‘Saifah’, causing real tears to form in the Alpha’s eyes when he’d first heard it. Phayu adores his twin, loves his twin and his daughter together.

Pai has been trying to get her to say his name too, but for some reason, she refuses to say it. Maybe it’s still too difficult of a sound for her to make, but she’ll get there, Phayu knows she will.

The Alpha loves hearing her voice, her cute, high pitched little voice whenever she’s happy or excited, when she sees him when she first wakes up in the morning, when she cuddles with Rain and she mumbles incoherently, but oh so content. Phayu loves it when she squeals in delight at seeing Saifah, clapping her hands as his twin kisses her cute puffy cheeks.

“Phi?” comes Rain’s voice from the hallway.

“In here,” Phayu answers, softly caressing his hand through Chaisee’s hair. It’s almost bedtime for the pup, so Phayu knows Rain is coming to check up on them. The Omega is very strict in her bedtime, much like Phayu. They think it’s important for her to have a routine she can follow, can fall back on and get used to.

They’ve noticed some character traits the pup has that are crazy alike to Rain’s, making them consider getting her tested later on in life, to see if she maybe has ADHD too, like Rain does. But for now, they’ll get her on a routine to make her life as easy as possible.

“How’s our little pup?” Rain asks, as he comes padding up to them. He quietly sits down next to them and cuddles up to Phayu, placing his chin on his shoulder.

“Clean and ready for bed,” the Alpha murmurs.

Rain leans over and presses his nose into Chaisee’s hair, sniffing deeply. “Mmmmh,” he lets out, purring softly.

“Da…” Chaisee murmurs again. “Da…” Her little hands reach up to Phayu’s chest, resting next to her face as she sighs in contentment. She’s quiet for a little while, purring the way she’s been doing more often these days, and both Phayu and Rain coo at her.

Phayu bites back a smile, thinking back to their first meeting. That rainy night, the detour he had taken because of a closed road, all of it playing out like fate had wanted it to. Phayu remembers seeing a car stranded on the side of the road, hazard lights flickering in the dark night of the city, windshield wipers rapidly flicking back and forth again and again, but not making the window view any clearer. He remembers the distressed Omega scent infiltrating his helmet, crashing his system and freezing him in place.

Phayu knew from the moment he laid his eyes on Rain, that they were meant to be.

And now here they are, sitting on a couch in their home, cuddled up with their pup on his lap as she’s sinking away into dreamland.

Getting more comfortable, Chaisee wiggles in Phayu’s hold and buries her face into Phayu’s chest. She sighs deeply and murmurs a soft, “Dada,” as she appears to fall asleep right after.

Next to him, Rain gasps into Phayu’s ear, and he shoots up.

“Did she…” he squeaks, looking at Phayu wide eyed.

She did. Chaisee said her first word!

An explosion of warmth and happiness courses through Phayu’s body and settles in his chest. A smile breaks out on his face and his throat tightens while tears form in his eyes. Unable to contain it, Phayu’s scent sweetens and seeps from his scent glands. The room fills itself with the thick scent of ozone and leather, surrounding the three of them like a warm blanket.

“She– she said–” Rain stutters, still looking at Phayu in awe.

Phayu looks at Rain with teary eyes, unable to control his emotions. Happiness has taken over his entire being as he looks at his mate, who looks at him with so much love and adoration, no hint of jealousy to be seen.

“Omega,” Phayu says, voice trembling and on the verge of breaking.

“Alpha,” Rain responds immediately.

“I love you,” Phayu blurts out. “I love you, I love our pup, I love–” but he can’t finish because Rain dives in and captures his lips with his own. It’s a gentle kiss, not rushed, not desperate but full of love and emotions – and Phayu’s happy tears that have started dripping down his cheeks.

Rain kisses him again and again and again, kissing away his tears and purring lovingly.

“My Alpha,” he murmurs. “My Alpha’s,” he says. “I love you so much.”
