Chapter Text

    The Hatake clan was actually a Japanese pureblood wizard family that was pretty popular and famous for being a family of geniuses. At some point in time, the clan came into the shinobi world because they could also harness chakra and the wizarding world saw them as a threat because of it.

    When Sakumo Hatake first came to Hogwarts, he had found that the Hatake clan was long forgotten by the wizarding community. Well, except for a few pureblood families such as the Blacks, Malfoys, Weasleys, and the Zabini's; however, they were told to never tell anyone outside their own family about the Hatake clan's existence.

     In the shinobi world, it was impossible for anyone outside the Hatake clan to be able to use magic even if the rest of the shinobi world knew magic existed. They needed to keep the wizarding world a secret, so the Hatake clan usually uses their magic as a last resort. Anyone who witnessed their spells all believe that the Hatake clan just used their kekkei genkai. All of the ones who know about magic outside of the Hatake clan are the Hokage and trustworthy friends of the clan.

     Sakumo Hatake had absolutely loathed magic to his very core. He hated that his newborn son, Kakashi Hatake, had been absolutely drenched in magic since the day his child was born was born; which had caused his wife to die during childbirth. Not only did magic kill his wife, but it was also the very thing that killed his the rest of his clan, his family, his comrades, and even his friends.

     Sakumo had decided to cut ties completely from the world he had once viewed as a place he could truly be himself without fear of failing the mission. After all, the mission wasn't even difficult to say the least.

     Under the excuse of being on a long term bodyguarding mission, Sakumo Hatake came to Hogwarts when he was eleven years old. He had been sorted into Gryffindor and bumped into Lily Evans. At the time, he was understandably awful at speaking English and Lily decided to help the foreign exchange student. They ended up becoming the best of friends.

     Unlike other Gryffindors, he couldn't care less about Lily's friendship with Severu. Although Sakumo wasn't really Severu's biggest fan at first, they ended up becoming great friends too. Lily and Sakumo were usually seen sitting, doing homework together, and being the most inseparable friendship ever, but it was merely a platonic relationship. Sakumo had noticed the glares from both James Potter and Severus Snape and decided to make it abundantly clear to them that they were just friends.

      In fifth year, after Snape called Lily a mudblood, Sakumo took Lily's side. Their friendship with Snape had been good while it lasted, but they ended up severing their friendship with Snape completely...

     When James and Lily finally declared that they were officially a couple, Sakumo shouted, "It's about time!" proudly, grinning even more as he saw them both blushingAdmittedly, at first, both Lily and Sakumo did not particularly like James and his friends, but after each and every one of them had gotten to know each other, they hung out together almost all the time.

     Other than what Sakumo would call a "normal school drama" for a wizarding school, he made it through all seven years of Hogwarts without much incident. He had graduated at the top of his grade and never saw Hogwarts again. Though even after he graduated, he still sent and received letters. Lily and James wrote him the news of being with child, and he happily wrote back to congratulate them.

     However, there had been a period of time where none of them wrote back to him, which had made him worry quite a bit. His clan had later gone to England to help them fight with an idiot called Voldemort, and no one had filled him in until Remus Lupin had the decency to do so. Remus had sent a letter that informed him that Lily, James, Regulus (which was Sirius's brother, Sakumo thinks), and Peter had passed away because Sirius had betrayed them.

     And Harry? Harry, of course, had been made an orphan and was sent to be raised by his aunt and uncle. Sakumo had never actually met Lily's sister and her husband, but he knew that they hated magic almost as much as he does. He didn't have to worry about Harry dying because of magic now. They would definitely raise him to hate magic. Surely, they wouldn't treat the child terribly because he had the potential to be a wizard.

     His family, who had gone to help out with Voldemort, had been accused of going against the ministry and had been killed. After this happened, he decided not to send Remus a reply at all, locked all his things that connected him to the magic world away, and vowed to never use magic again.

     Then he met his wife, Gina Inuzuka, now Gina Hatake. She was about two years younger than him and about a foot shorter. Her hair was dark brunette while her eyes were a dark enough red that anyone could easily mistake them for being black. He had told her about the magic community, but it was never important enough to her for them to talk about more than necessary.

     Gina had never met her in-laws and Sakumo never met his. She had told him that her father was an Uchiha that got kicked out of the compound because he got a woman from another clan pregnant. He had demanded that her mother abort her, but after her mother refused, she never saw him again. And because of that, Gina was so scared that Sakumo would divorce her when she found out that she was pregnant with Kakashi.

      Sakumo was so happy that he would be a dad that he decided to share the news with Remus through a letter while making it clear that he was likely never going to send a letter to him again. Seeing as he never wrote back, Remus understood it perfectly.

     Now that he and Kakashi are the only remaining residents of the Hatake clan, Sakumo was never going to tell his son about the magic community, nor that he was potentially a wizard, not even the truth about his mother's death. His son was the only thing he had left, and as he gazed upon his beautiful son who had fallen asleep for the first time in his arms, he vowed to protect him with his life and not allow the ministry nor the magic world to affect him any longer. Kakashi will either grow to become a shinobi or a citizen of Konoha, he decided, not a wizard.

     Honestly, he should've known that his son would be a prodigy. Sakumo himself had been a prodigy. Gina had the brains to be a strategist (but she decided not to become a shinobi anyway). Heck, Kakashi likely had the intelligence of both his parents combined. He can already read, do math, work out, and a whole bunch of other shit. He also already has perfect control of his chakra and he has the ability to perform C rated jutsu. The boy also could sneak around the house without a certain skilled shinobi noticing (DAWN IT! HE'S ONLY TWO!). He will certainly be a skilled shinobi.

     It was no surprise when Sakumo found out that Kakashi was the top of each of his classes at the academy. Since his son started wearing disposable masks (because the boy picked up that the features of his face reminded Sakumo painfully of his mother, which Sakumo only admitted to himself that the mask made him feel better), he decided to gift him with washable masks.

     Unfortunately, Kakashi started doing accidental magic after he turned four years old, which was sooner than Sakumo expected. The accidental magic only happened when Kakashi's emotions were getting out of control, so, blinded by his hatred for magic, he started teaching Kakashi to control and shut off his emotions while punishing him when he got too emotional. Eventually, Kakashi started becoming more and more cold to his schoolmates and his father and showing less and less emotion.

     After the mission where Sakumo chose to put his comrades before the mission, he started getting discriminated against, receiving accusations, insults, and glares. All of which he thought he could handle, but after a year of enduring it, he was told to kill himself.

     At first, he had only considered it; telling himself that Kakashi still needed him. But, a few days later...

     "Father!" Kakashi called, waking up his father while holding a tray of Gohan, rice, and orange juice.

     "What?" Sakumo grumbled before he was pinched on the nose by his son. Which was something Gina used to do, Sakumo chose to ignore the thought.

     "Father, you said you had a mission today, starting at eight-thirty." Kakashi said, practically shoving the tray into his face. "Here, It is six o'clock and you need to eat and then get yourself ready."

     Sakumo sat up and took the bowl of rice, thinking, Who would have guessed a six year old would cook for their father? Kakashi stood there as he watched his father finish his rice. Sakumo thought that he might be wanting to say something, but he didn't want to talk to him while his mouth was full. He went to grab the cup of orange juice when he saw that Kakashi had a large bandage on his wrist.

     "Kakashi, where did you get that injury?"

     Kakashi tried to hide it behind the bottom of the tray and said, "It's nothing, father. I just got it while I was sparring with my upperclassmen."

     God damnit, he is starting to become an exceptional liar. I actually almost believed that. (ONLY SIX, DAMN IT)

     "Then why did I just find out about it? Your teacher usually tells me when stuff like that happens." Kakashi looked like he had another excuse cooked up, but decided against saying it. Sakumo could only guess what he was thinking.

     "You got into another fight, didn't you?"

     Kakashi didn't even bother denying it. He knew he was busted the moment his father saw a glint in his eyes."He insulted you, father. He said I was better off dead than having a father like you. But it's not true father. Nothing any of them say about you is true."

    "...And you attacked him because of that?..."

    "No," Kakashi answered before he could stop himself. "I just told him to shut up and his mouth disappeared somehow. He-"

    "Kakashi!" Sakumo snapped, blinded by his anger because Kakashi had done accidental magic again. "I told you to control your emotions!"

     Flinching from the sudden higher volume, Kakashi murmured, "I'm sorry, father." Sakumo only responded with a glare and he finished his meal before Kakashi spoke again.

     "Father..."

     "What is it?"

     "Why are you so upset every time I-" Kakashi started to ask before he was interrupted.

     "You don't need to know about such trivial things. Don't you need to get ready to go to the academy?"

     "...I just need to pack a few homework papers..."

     "Then you do that." Sakumo said before placing the his empty bowl onto to tray that Kakashi, at some point, placed on his lap. He raised a brow at his son, whom hadn't even moved. Kakashi's father didn't even notice the forming tears in his son's eyes; the boy was trying to keep himself together as to not upset his father again.

     "Father, do you remember what day it is?" Kakashi asked, barely even able to keep his voice from breaking. Sakumo didn't notice.

     "...Eh..It's just another Tuesday, isn't it?" Sakumo mumbled nonchalantly, thinking he only imagined the small tingle that came to his head.

     "....I will be getting ready to go to the academy now. Good luck on your mission, Father..."

__

     When Sakumo came back from a successfully completed mission, he was greeted by mumbles of insults as usual. Ignoring them, he went to the Hokage tower to report to the Hokage.

    "Thank you, Sakumo." Sandaime said once he was finished reporting and given him a written copy. Sakumo was about to walk out the office when Hiruzen spoke again. "One more thing," he started as he pulled out a scroll and gave it to Sakumo. "This is from Dumbledore."

     Sakumo merely gave Hiruzen an unamused look before opening and glaring down at the letter.

Dear Hatake Sakumo,

I hope you have been doing well since the last time we sent you. I know you told Mr. Lupin that you wanted nothing to do with the magic community anymore, but there have been underage magic detected from your area. I heard from Mr. Lupin that you met someone and now have a child. That would explain the detections, but my biggest concern is that this child of yours would be, at most, six years old by now.

Now I am sure that all the underage magic is also accidental, but that just further my worries. If you will allow it, I request that I tutor your child for a short period of time so these detections will at least decrease and lessen the chance of some sort of accident that could be life threatening to everyone in Konoha.

I hope that your grudge against magic and the ministry will not cloud your-

     Sakumo stopped reading, "That man will not be seeing my son if I have anything to say about it!"

     "Sakumo, Kakashi will find out about magic eventually-" Sandaime started but was interrupted. "Then we both will just have to make sure he never does," Sakumo growled as he tore the letter he just read into a many pieces and started to march out the Hokage's office.

     "What will we send Dumbledore then?" The Hokage asked.

     "I don't want to send anything to that man, but if you must, tell him that I refused."

     After he reported to the Hokage, he decided to forget the whole Dumbledore-tutoring-Kakashi-matter entirely. Instead, he accidentally overheard two civilian women gossiping, apparently about him, on his way home.

     "-no wonder everyone hates the White Fang. I feel bad for his son. The poor boy doesn't understand his father's predicament. If he did, he would've run away from his father ages ago."

     "It would be better for everyone, especially his son, if he just dies."

     Sakumo tried tuning them out as he practically ran to the Hatake estate. But apparently, all the things that all the villagers said started running through his head. He hoped Kakashi was home, he needed to get these thoughts away.

     Kakashi wasn't home. He wouldn't be home for another fifteen minutes.

'It would be better for everyone, especially his son, if he just dies.'

'The poor boy doesn't understand his father's predicament. If he did, he would've run away from his father ages ago.'

'It would be easier for everybody if you just died.'

     And those phrases danced around his head, dodging all his petty attempts to shoo them to away, and kept on repeating over and over and over and over and over... and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

     It was weird. In the past, he was always able to block out such negative thoughts. People has even said worse things to his face. What had changed? Has all the things they have all said finally make him snap at the mention of his son?

     His stomach twisted and twisted until his mind and body felt numb and his head felt like it was going to explode. He found himself seeing shadows that would scare any civilian and struggling to breathe. Instinctively, he reached for his tanto and swung over his head at the shadows.

'The only way you can atone for everything you've put us through is if you just killed yourself.'

     He dropped to his knees as he mentally screamed for the voices to go away. 'It would be better for everyone, especially his son, if he just dies.'

     Go away.

'The poor boy doesn't understand his father's predicament.'

     Go away!

'If he did, he would've ran away from his father ages ago.'

     Go away!

'The only way you can atone-'

     "GO AWAY!"

     He didn't know when he started yelling out loud, all he knew was that the pain needed to go away. His thoughts needed to stop... And before he was able to think logically, he pointed his tanto downwards right towards his stomach, placed both his hands on the handle, and-

      "Father, what-" Kakashi started before he witnessed his father use his tanto to rip into his stomach and the heavy scent of blood shoved straight through his mask and scrambled through his nostrils.

     'When did Kakashi get here?' Sakumo thought before he felt himself fall on his side onto the wooden floor as his son's voice scared away the thoughts that ran through his head. "Kakashi," was all Sakumo could force out as he coughed out his own blood spread. The blood seeping out his wound formed a puddle around his body. He forced his eyes to look in the direction of his son and then he realized that had utterly failed as a father.

     His son was holding a birthday card. Likely from one of his classmates... and his father forgot all about his son's birthday

'Kakashi, where did you get that injury?'

      No.

'He insulted you, father.'

      No no no.

'He said I was better off dead than having a father like you.'

      No no no no no no.

'But it's not true father.'

      I yelled at you...

'Nothing any of them say about you is true.'

      All your life, I made you shut off your emotions because of my own selfish whims. Why do you even care about your stupid old man?

'Good luck on your mission...'

      I got mad at you for something you couldn't control. And worst of all, I forgot what today was.

'Father, do you remember what day it is?'

'...Eh..It's just another Tuesday, isn't it?'

     I'm sorry, Kakashi.

-

      ...Kakashi was frozen. He wouldn't move. He wouldn't do anything as he watched his father slowly bleed to death. He wanted to cry.

     'I told you to control your emotions, Kakashi!'

     For the first time in his life, he didn't know what to do. For the first time, he hated that he understood completely of what was happening. For the- "Kakashi," his father called to him once again, voice raspy from all the screaming he'd done earlier. "I-" His father started before he painfully coughed out blood.

      Father is in pain... I gotta help him... But how do I do that?

     "Father," Kakashi managed to sob out and run to his father's side.

     "I'm...sorry..." Was the only thing Sakumo was able to force out before his eyes gone completely lifeless.

     "Please," Kakashi pleaded. Eyes wide and dripping with tears he as dropped to his knees and gullibly tried to stop the bleeding while the tanto was still stuck in his stomach.

      Please don't die!

     "Please," He repeated. "Please father, don't die!"

      Not today!

     "Please father," he pleaded again. "I'll do anything!"

     Not on my birthday!

     "Just don't die! Please!"

~~~
     Sakumo had just arrived home from a mission when he was greeted by the sound of his wife crying. Despite his exhaustion, he immediately ran to his wife and asked what was wrong as he wrapped his arms around her to comfort her. Gina hesitated before she pointed her finger towards the coffee table.
      He looked to where she was pointing to and saw what he believed to be a pregnancy test. He barely realized he went to grab it until he realized that the test was positive. Opening his mouth like a fish, he widened his eyes, looked at his wife and asked, "You're pregnant?"
      "Yes!" She cried, thinking her husband would be upset. "I went to the hospital and they confirmed it! I'm sorry that I went and got pregnant before we started talking about it! I should've been more-"
      "Gina," Sakumo interrupted her ramblings. "There is no need to apologize. I have absolutely no reason to be upset."
      "What?"
      Ignoring his wife's obvious confusion, he gave her the biggest and happiest smile he ever had in his entire life and said, "Thank you, Gina Hatake, for making me a father."
      She let out a huge relieved smile and happy tears started from the corners of her eyes. "You're welcome," She smiled her biggest smile. "And thank you, Sakumo Hatake, for making me a mother."
