Work Text:

He hadn’t expected it to get this bad.

Yet here he was, coughing and trying to ignore the pain in his chest as vines wrapped themselves around his lungs and filled them with petals that only had one escape..

He was basically throwing them up, the toilet water was red in color, and the small petals were stained in red.

He can feel tears well up in his eyes, overflowing and falling down his face as he yet again coughs up more of the flowers that were blooming to kill him.

He had options to escape this, surgeries designed to save people like him who were far too deep into this mess just so they can live a longer life.

But the reality of it was you’d lose memories of the person you fell in love with, Coolment didn’t wanna lose Sam and the time they’ve spent together.

It pained him how badly he wanted it to be over, but he couldn’t imagine a world where Sam didn’t exist in his life. He loved him more than he could ever have hoped to love anyone.

He fell, and he fell hard .

He wanted to spend every minute with him, to get to feel his cold touch rub against him while they walked to class, or to listen to him ramble about his favorite shows and interests.

He loved him.

But Sam didn’t love him.

Sam wanted Grian.

Coolment has spent so long listening to the boy he loves speak about another.

He has heard it all.

Sam likes the way Grian’s smile lights up a room, and how his laughs fill a void he hadn’t noticed before, and about how warm his hands felt, and how he encouraged him to get better at art.

He loved Grian’s hair and how fluffy it was. He loved being able to be around him, and he loved him for a reason.

They were soulmates, they were bonded by the universe and they shared skin like it was paper.

Coolment learned that the night Grian was teaching him how to hold chopsticks again.

He saw the blue ink they shared on their forearms. He ignored it, playfully teasing his friends about something.

But before he knew it he was in between them. Grian loved Sam. Sam loved Grian.

They loved each other without even knowing it and were dancing around each other and missing each step that would lead them to being happy together.

Coolment gagged as more blood was thrown up into the toilet. He was using tissues to clean the blood from his lips and chin, he couldn’t let anyone know about his sickness.

He couldn’t risk them realizing it’s Sam.

He didn’t wanna die.

He curled up into a ball and cried.

So the flowers had taken their place, in the space between his swollen heavy heart, and his fragile bones. Filling his lungs with petals that threatened to kill him.

But he still loved Sam.
