Work Text:
The tapes show Charlie all sorts of things. The calendar on the ship syncs up with them, showing the dates and times each were recorded.
There's something that occurs during all three years of the ship's journey on the same few days, some sort of holiday that his parents had celebrated.
Christmas, his mother had called it in one of the tapes as she held Charlie up to a small, decorated tree. The tape of his young self stares at the twinkling lights in awe.
A few of the tapes feature people singing songs, ones that he's learned over the hundreds of times he's watched them. They have something to do with this holiday, and he hums along with the group of people.
If he only could have stayed on the Enterprise...
He finds himself singing along when the tape starts over. He's putting up a tree and decorating it, just as his mother and father and all their friends did.
He does it along with the people on the tape, hanging up lights that he's conjured up and ornaments he copies from their tree.
It's the closest he's got to family, right now.
