"He's not just some toy!"
Surprisingly enough, the yelling—which he assumed was initially meant to be whispers—was not the phenomenon to pull him out of the comfort of sleep. No, he truly could care less for bickering at the literal peak of dawn. Sure, the franticness in the voice was startling, but it would not have pulled him. What he did care for—and what dragged him to consciousness—was the lack of a body pressed against his own.
Sebastian had grown accustomed to the warmth of his…friend? his partner? his fuck buddy? His—?
His something. There wasn’t a proper label for them, nor was it necessary.
It wasn’t serious after all—Sebastian had grown accustomed to the warmth of another person next to him when he slept. Of course, it was just the one specific person, a person he spent way more time with than he ever thought they could tolerate. Though that time was only to kill and pass, it was always meant to be sex and nothing more.
The time they spent together didn’t mean anything.
The hours they spent under the sky, cloud watching or star gazing, wasn’t anything more than a change of scenery. The nights they snuck out to be around each other were to ensure questions weren’t raised and to chase the thrill. The dinners they shared were only courtesy for the main course.
Even the nights and days when they did nothing, only spending it in each other’s company—watching television together, playing games, getting to know each other—they didn’t mean anything. It was summer. They had nothing else to do.
That was all.
Obviously, Sebastian was definitely okay with these terms. His whole schtick was sex. Besides, it was much more safe to have a sexual relationship with one person, and to be handed an attractive (not) partner was just the cherry on top.
Not to mention, Kurt needed this. His break up was messy, but mutual? Sebastian didn’t know the details, and he didn’t want to know. All he knew was that Kurt needed to forget about his ex. He needed to forget about Blaine, which begs the question of why he was even on the phone with him.
"...I can't talk to you when you’re like this—can't you just listen to me for once?"
Even if Sebastian was sure that his skill in faking sleep was exceptional, he could tell by the heavy and sudden silence in the room that Kurt sensed his consciousness. Though he was already laying on his side, he found no reason to move to confront him over something so pointless.
After all, it was not his business. His relationship with Kurt was not serious, nor had he ever cared for the relationship that Kurt had with his ex. Since that fallout allowed for him to gain something in the end, so who was he to complain about one measly phone call?
As long as he ends up back with—as long as he can continue having this no strings attached sort of relationship, why would he try to intervene with one frivolous phone call? Even if the call was something serious, it shouldn’t matter to him. They weren’t anything more than an outlet for each other anyways. He shouldn’t care.
"I'm hanging up now." Kurt said curtly. Then he set his phone down and carefully crept back into bed.
Sebastian briefly fidgeted with the sheets in his hands. He continued facing the wall and asked a question he already knew the answer to, "...who was on the phone?" His words came out much more hush than he intended.
There was a brief pause before he replied, "Blaine."
He didn’t want to ask. It was not his business to know. “Why did he call?” He chalked his curiosity up to being nosy. Nothing more.
Kurt pulled him to lay flat on his back.
Even if there was a gentle smile on his face, they had spent way too much time together. No matter how much Kurt kept himself withdrawn, Sebastian could still see the twinge of guilt in his eyes.
“Nothing you need to worry about.” Kurt kissed his lips then rested his head on Sebastian’s shoulder, which made him subconsciously wrap his arms around him—easily slipping back into the rhythm.
The warmth of a body returned to his side, yet it was not enough to sedate him.
He concluded that it would just be another restless night—staring blankly at a wall, ignoring the twinge in his chest—nothing he should worry about, really. He had what he wanted in his arms. Perhaps not in his heart, but that didn’t matter. He didn’t want anything serious after all.
Besides Kurt had kept him up before, so what’s one more night?
