Work Header

of flower girls and best men

Summary:

They’re wrapped up together in bed, kissing, when Adam shoots up straight, pulling away from her in a rush.

“We gotta tell Mack,” he says, as if the realization has just hit him, and Kim smiles indulgently; tugs him back down by the collar of his shirt, kissing his mouth until he catches on, kissing her back.

“Makayla is asleep,” she reminds him softly once they part, breathing a little heavier. “We will tell her first thing in the morning.”

Notes:

I am desperately hoping the show gives me a scene similar to this, but for now- a little sweetness. Set post 11.03.

Work Text:

They’re wrapped up together in bed, kissing, when Adam shoots up straight, pulling away from her in a rush.

“We gotta tell Mack,” he says, as if the realization has just hit him, and Kim smiles indulgently; tugs him back down by the collar of his shirt, kissing his mouth until he catches on, kissing her back.

“Makayla is asleep,” she reminds him softly once they part, breathing a little heavier. “We will tell her first thing in the morning.”

Adam almost pouts, but nods in concession, and kisses her again, mouth trailing along her jaw as Kim grins. Her fingers press to the back of his skull, keeping him close, and she gasps softly when his teeth nip at her pulse point, making her heart skip.

“C’mon, darlin’. Let’s go to bed.”

The next morning dawns bright, and Kim wakes wrapped in Adam’s arms, his ring shining on her finger in the dim rays of sun the snake through the gap in the curtains.

She peppers kisses to Adam’s jaw, awakening him tenderly- he rises to consciousness with a soft grunt, tugging her into him further as his lips touch her hairline. “Morning, baby.”

“Morning, darlin’.”

There’s a soft knock on their door, and Kim smiles against Adam’s skin.

“You can come in, honey,” Kim calls, and Makayla opens the door swiftly, pouncing on their ankles before crawling up the covers to settle between their bodies. “Good morning, kiddo.”

“Morning, Mom,” Makayla beams, then tilts her head to look at Adam. “Hi Dad.”

“Hey, Bumblebee,” he greets, kissing her forehead. Kim does the same on the opposite side, and then snuggles in close to her daughter, touching their cheeks together.

“So Makayla,” she starts, and her daughter hums, lacing their fingers together over her stomach. “I have a question for you.”

Makayla pulls away to look at her, eyes wide with excitement and questions, and Kim’s smile softens further. She leans in, touching foreheads with Makayla, and wrinkles her nose when her daughter giggles.

“What do you think about your dad and I...getting married?” Kim asks, and Makayla jerks away from her to look between her and Adam wildly, eyes wide.

“Wait. For serious??” Makayla asks, nearly shouting, but neither of them mind- especially when Kim nods, holding up her left hand to showcase the ring on her finger, and Makayla squeals, wrapping her arms around them both to hug both her parents to her.

Adam chuckles, turning his head to kiss her cheek, and Makayla sighs happily. Then, she perks up.

“Can we FaceTime Uncle Kevin?” she asks, and Kim outright laughs. “He said you guys were never gonna figure things out.”

“Who taught you that phrase?” Kim asks, grabbing her phone, and Makayla answers with a prim Uncle Kevin.

Her phone rings briefly before the FaceTime picks up in Makayla’s hand, and she crows happily as soon as Kevin’s face fills the screen: “Uncle Kevin! Guess what! Mom and Dad are getting married!”

“Oh yeah?” Kevin’s face splits into a grin, and Kim and Adam lean in on each of Makayla’s sides as Kim holds up the ring for inspection through the phone. “Well, it’s about time, ain’t it?”

Kim rolls her eyes, affectionate, and laces her fingers through Adam’s above Makayla’s head.

“We thought you deserved the honor of knowing almost first,” she teases, and Kevin’s grin widens.

“Well, assuming the kid was first, I’ll take it,” he replies, and nods in Adam’s direction. “Good work, Ruz.”

“Ah, just good timing,” Adam dips his head, but the adoration in his eyes when he catches Kim’s gaze makes her stomach swoop. “We’ll see ya at work, Kev. Thanks, man.”

Kevin salutes, and the call ends. Makayla sighs happily, falling back against the pillows with Kim’s phone against her chest, and then promptly sits up, an urgent look on her face.

“Do I get to be flower girl?”

Kim laughs, smothering her in kisses.

“There’s no one else more qualified for the job, sweetheart.”
