Its better to be silent together

Summary:

Its that awkward space of time when hashira are called back for a meeting, and some are already there, whilst some are still a day or so of travel away. Whilst making themselves comfy at the masters garden, Giyu and the new hashira gravitate towards eachother, and realise they like being silent together.

Work Text:

Was She just going to sit here? The newly hired Hashira was similar in temperament to him. Quiet, mainly. But not weak or faint of heart. Just quiet, until needed to be otherwise. The fox mask she wears brings back happy memories, though that are tainted by tragedy, and so stick pangs of sorrow in his heart where there should be fondness and nostalgia. He's surprised her mask survived this long. They tend to break quite fast- his own broke in his first fight, and the same had happened to Tanjiros, he'd heard from the boy. He suspects she makes her own when they break ,as the style of the carvings doesn't fit Urokodaki’s technique, though it's only noticeable now the two are sat vaguely near each other.

Perhaps their similarity is why they've gravitated towards sitting near each other… Now was that awkward in-between time, where hashiras have been called back for a meeting, but some are here, while some are still a day or so away, so those who have arrived make themselves comfortable in the master's garden.

And She and Giyu seemed to both have the same idea, occupying the quiet corner away from the louder hashiras (cough cough, Tengen). And Giyu didn't mind. He usually didn't like his quiet space being invaded. But…you know what, someone quiet, like him, wasn't too bad. And somehow, the silence felt less depressing this way. He felt no inclination to ask her name, which he didn't know. He felt no inclination to speak. And neither did she, Just sitting there, probably feeling the same as him. Happy to not be silent alone. Like an unspoken respect, bond, and even groundworks for friendship and understanding, all being built by the two not acknowledging, but not avoiding each other.

It was nice this way. To not be alone. To be silent. To…have a ‘friend’.

He learned, it's better to be silent together.
