Nine
They'd been travelling together for maybe a couple of months. Jack may have been a seasoned time traveler, but he certainly had no experience in the sort of time travel the Doctor and Rose did. When he'd travelled for the Time Agency, and even by himself, he'd either stick around for a few weeks or perhaps several months. Or he'd be there for up to three hours and back to base the same time later. That way he always knew how long it had been.
With the Doctor and Rose they'd travel when they wanted for as long as they wanted. That wasn't even mentioning that their 'base' (it was starting to feel more like a home than a base) was in fact a timeless void that was also their time ship. And was also sentient. To some extent. He hadn't figured that out yet, and he wasn't convinced that either of them were too sure either.
Something that had happened on a semi regular basis in the Tardis, was dancing. Rose would dance around the console, pulling either the Doctor or himself in to twirl her around the console. It was always fun.
This night (could he even call it that?) Rose had convinced the Doctor to twist her about, swaying her around to the gentle beat of the music. He watched them as they went, only mildly jealous and he wasn't sure of who. Jack smiled as they twirled through the console room, still in their muddy outfits from the adventure they'd gone on.
There was a lull in the music, and the Doctor swayed them in the silence. Jack watched as Rose grinned up at him. It was subtle movements, but Jack caught them, subtle movements that lead to Rose pulling the Doctor down into a kiss. Still, he was unsure who he was more jealous off in that moment. The music started back up again, and Rose spun away from the Doctor and to him.
Jack was drawn in to her, happy to spin her around. Dancing with Rose was like loosing focus on the world. He was vaguely aware of the Doctor watching them as he leant awkwardly against the console. Without much warning the music quieted again, and he was suddenly being pulled into a kiss by Rose. It was soft and gentle, and spoke the words they were both too afraid to actually speak. Just as sudden as the kiss had started Rose spun him around so he was crashing into the Doctor.
The music started back up again and Rose cheered them on. Together they scrambled to start dancing. They rarely danced together, and Jack rather wished they would do it more often. Rose whooped as the Doctor spun Jack around and they all laughed as they nearly fell. It was nice. It was perfect. It was them. The music lulled around them and Jack grabbed onto the Doctor to pull him into a kiss.

Jack scrambled to help Rose up as the Doctor rambled. He was more talking to Rose, but Jack wasn't about to complain. He was more concerned with figuring out how he hadn't died to the Daleks. Or perhaps he had, and something had reversed it? He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure he wanted to know either.
He wasn't really with it as everything happened, and he spent a lot of the time just staring out and trying to figure everything out.
They were back in the Tardis now. Hovering who knew when and where. Gentle music played through the console room and both Rose and Jack were staring at the new Doctor.
"And you're alright now?" Rose asked. Sure they'd had Christmas lunch at Rose's mum after everything, but they were both still worried about.
"I'm fine Rose, see?" he said, spinning around. His new coat flared out and the Doctor shrugged it off and threw it onto the jump seats. Jack hummed and moved over to pull him into a tight hug.
"You had us scared," he whispered. "Never do that to us again."
"I'm fine Jack, I promise," the Doctor said, hugging him back. This Doctor was different to their last one, but he was still the Doctor. The music that had started playing become louder, and Jack coaxed the Doctor into dancing around console. In the lull in the music he pulled the Doctor into a soft kiss. Let the press of lips against lips share the fear he'd had, the care he felt now, the love he felt.
The Doctor kissed him back, and poured all his feelings into it. Jack clung onto him for a moment longer. Desperate to make sure the Doctor understood. Eventually Jack stepped back and let Rose grab onto the Doctor as the music started back up. He slipped to lean against the railings and watched them twist and twirl across the grate floor.

When they'd first lost Rose, Jack had left. He'd walked away to mourn, and thought the Doctor would manage on his own. Then he'd seen him again and realised how wrong he'd been. But he couldn't stay, he really couldn't. It hurt to much. Everything felt wrong without Rose. And then he'd seen him again. Rose had been there too. Jack had been ready for a few therapy trips as they all got used to being three again, and then the Doctor hadn't even asked Rose what she'd wanted before ditching her back in the other universe. Jack had left without much word to the Doctor.
Yet now he found himself rushing to his side. He ignored the glass and general destruction in the room as he rushed to the Doctor's side. The Doctor was explaining regeneration to some old guy.
Jack stayed back in the Tardis as the Doctor said his goodbye to all his old companions. He even stayed back when the Doctor went to see Rose for one last time. He hadn't expected the regeneration to be so brutal. Or to end up in the pool, in the library, with the contents of the galley there too.
Jack collapsed onto the side of the jumpseats as the Doctor continued to climb out of the Tardis.
"Coming?" the new new Doctor asked. Jack shook his head.
"You go ahead, I'll see you in a bit," Jack said, trying to catch his breath.
Eventually the Tardis started trying to take off on its own. Jack suddenly shifted and fell face first onto the floor. He looked around and crawled out from under the jump seats. The Doctor flung himself back into the Tardis, barely looking shocked at the change of gravity.
"She's phasing! A ten minuets jump should help," he shouted, rushing to the console. Jack watched him for a moment as he sorted himself out. After a moment he pulled the Doctor away from the console.
"Are you ok?" he asked. The Doctor grinned at him.
"I'm brilliant," he said. Jack nodded and let out a breath of relief. He grabbed onto the Doctor's ruined tie and pulled him into a kiss. For a moment the Doctor flailed, before settling his hands in Jack's hair and kissing him with everything he had. They both did there best to push all their feelings into that kiss, but eventually Jack had to step away and let the Doctor pilot them.
"Coming this time?" the Doctor asked.
"Nah, I'm going to sort out my clothes, I'll see you in a moment," Jack said, kissing his cheek. The Doctor grinned after him and made sure he'd set the coordinates right.
