Work Text:
When Damian had decided that he was going to go to medical school in hopes of becoming a doctor, having your brothers fall into your apartment bleeding out onto the floor was not one of them he considered. Why couldn't I have just gone to become a veterinarian? No, I had to be a human doctor.
Rushing over to Jason who was grunting in pain and putting him on the floor that he had been bleeding on. Thankfully it was just a carpet someone had given him and not directly onto the ground. Though he will be having Jason pay him back because he is a broke medical student and damnit he makes nothing.
"How do these things always happen to you?" Damian whines as he pulls up his older brother's shirt to see the bullet hole. It didn't seem to be near anything important which he mentally sighs in relief for. Another miracle was that he could see the bullet which he grabbed out quickly so as to not lose it somewhere else in the body. The risk of infection was worth it in this case.
"Y'know what I do." Jason grunts out from the pain. "God I fucking hate getting shot here I always get nasues."
"Or maybe it is from the fact that you are bleeding out everywhere. That just might be the cause." Damian snaps letting his frustration come out to Jason who just ignores him in favor of looking at the ceiling. It almost seems as though he is trying to calm himself down knowing that Damian had to stitch him up now since they couldn't wait for numbing cream to help it.
Both focus on other things as the process goes on. Damian himself is not feeling good at the process of stitching up his brother. Yes he has done many things to practice and even some people but still the process is one he never wants to do on his family members. There is something so different about it.
He can see why there are rules and laws about this kind of thing. It is something someone should not have to be put through on the member doing the medical stuff. And it just feels that more real. Not that he doesn't care for his patients, he does and does everything for them but when it is family or someone you are close to it makes one nervous.
And when it comes to nevres it is a thing that one does not want to do a medical procedure with. It can get very personal very quickly which is not a good thing at all. That leads to mistakes. Mistakes that can end or change—in an extremely bad way—a life.
Finally finishing the last stitch Damian internally breathed a sigh of relief. Everything went okay and nothing horrible happened.
"Thanks kid." Jason says, seemingly falling asleep. "Love you."
Damian feels the normal sense of panic that happens whenever Dick, Duke, Babs, or even Alfred says those things so easily. But this was Jason. He would rather die than admit he loves his family even if he does. So this was something Damian was not used to.
"Love you too." Was what came out of Damians mouth out instinct more than anything. He just dropped the blanket he was going to cover Jason with and all but ran out of the room to go to his and lock the door so he could-well he hadn't gotten that far but do something about this mess. Maybe Tim? He might still be awake as for the rest of the family probably not.
So he had the option to call Tim or panic.
He was not sure which to choose.
Though in the end he did both. Getting another out of there I love you and what do you mean and of course have you been sleep deprived.
Damian was doomed to just panic alone in his room it seems like.
