Work Text:

What’s wrong with me?

Wednesday should be the happiest she’s ever been. She and Enid had recently begun dating, there’s no more bigoted normies chasing after her, and Nevermore has become almost like a second home to the goth. So, why did she still feel so bad?

Every time she caught a glance of her reflection, it was like a shot to the chest. But why? Even brushing her hair was becoming a pain-inducing experience. Wednesday’s hair was one of the only things she cared about appearance wise, but now she can’t stand the look of the long strands, nor could she deal with the feeling of it brushing against her back and shoulders. It was close to driving her to tears. I can’t do this any longer.

The raven was alone in her and Enid’s shared dorm, so she marched with purpose into their bathroom. Enough was enough, the goth grabbed the scissors and started cutting. It was liberating, but it must’ve looked like insanity to any possible onlookers. It was incredibly short and incredibly choppy, but it didn’t grate on any of the Addams’ senses.

Finally.

Just as Wednesday was preparing to clean up the mess, Enid had walked into the room. “Hey honey, I’m back-” she cut herself off when she saw the mess of hair around her girlfriend. Enid’s eyes slowly made their way up Wednesday’s form, finally settling on her freshly cut hair. “Woah, what’s with the new look?” The werewolf was wearing a soft smile, no ill intent found.

“I… I just couldn’t stand it any longer, for whatever reason. It’s better now though. Do you… not like it?” The goth asked nervously, she didn’t think about how Enid would react.

“Oh, no! I love it, it’s very handsome on you, baby,” the bubbly girl said as she planted a kiss onto Wednesday’s cheek.

Oh wow, that’s new. The raven began to blush profusely, there was no way she could hide it from her frenetic girlfriend in time.

Just as she thought, Enid took notice quickly, her smile growing even wider as she wound her arms around her partner’s neck, “Oh yeah, that one hit the spot for you?”

“I… uh, yes. I suppose so.”

“You’re so cute! Anyway, wanna tell me more about this impromptu barber sesh?” Enid started to drag Wednesday back into their room and onto the darker side, ever so thoughtful of what would be more comfortable for the raven.

The Addams let out a sigh, “Well, recently I have been plagued with these almost painful feelings when I see myself in reflections or even just looking at my body while I’m showering or changing. It… has troubled me to no end and I don’t understand why.” This wasn’t easy to admit, especially since Wednesday was normally known for her self-confidence.

“Oh honey, I’m sorry you feel that way. Is there anything in particular that sets off these feelings? Obviously your hair was one, but are there any others?” Enid had a sympathetic look on her face, the smile still there even though it was much smaller than before.

“I’m not sure… I think it’s mostly just seeing myself through a feminine lens, perhaps? I have found it agitating to wear the skirt to my uniform as of late, and putting on my… undergarments has been quite bothersome as well if I am honest.” Would her girlfriend have any advice on this? Did other people feel this way too? The raven’s head was spinning.

The werewolf buried her fingers into the Addams’ hair and began to scratch. It was very comforting. “Oh, um… have you ever thought that maybe you’re trans, possibly?” The girl’s smile turned sheepish as Wednesday just tilted her head and raised one eyebrow. “Y’know like, maybe you aren’t a girl?” Oh.

Wednesday considered it for a moment. She’s never really felt “attached”, so to speak, to the female identity, and it was that identity that was seemingly causing these problems. Not to mention what happened earlier when Enid had called the raven “handsome”, there was something satisfying about this line of thought. Perhaps this was her (his?) problem.

“I had never really thought about possibly being, what was it you said, ‘trans’ before. I think that it does explain a lot though. But, what would I do about it now that I know?” This was so confusing, but admittedly a bit exciting as well.

Enid’s megawatt smile came barreling back in, “Well, we could totally get you switched over to the uniform pants, first of all. Buuuuut, we could also start referring to you with more masculine pronouns and compliments and stuff like that!” The werewolf was absolutely beaming, then suddenly she gasped, “And you could pick out a new name! Only if you’d want to though.”

A new name? He (that doesn’t feel half bad) thought that Wednesday was a very fitting name for himself, it was more feminine leaning though. Maybe a different day? Thursday? No, not quite. Monday? Absolutely not. Maybe he should think about the other languages he was fluent in, his father’s name was Spanish.

“How about Miércoles? It is Spanish for Wednesday as I quite like the kookiness of my birth name.” It felt absolutely perfect when he said it out loud, hopefully his girlfriend would think the same.

“Oh em gee! I love it, babe! It’s so you.” Enid pressed a kiss onto his cheek once again. Their gazes met again, Enid’s eyes seemed to have stars in them. “Does this mean you’re my boyfriend?”

Once again, Miércoles’ face turned red just from hearing said words from the werewolf. “I definitely wouldn’t be… opposed to such a term.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever get over this new shy side from my boyfriend. You’re gonna look so handsome in your uniform, with the pants and the tie, ugh, it’s gonna kill me.” At this point Enid had to be just teasing him right? There’s no way this amount of praise wasn’t intentional.

“Enid…”

“What? I’m just letting you know how I feel about you, baby,” Enid stopped for a moment. “Wait, are my pet names still okay?”

While they didn’t receive the enhanced reaction, they were still quite pleasant. “Yes, they will be just fine. If I have any qualms I shall bring them up once I am aware of them.”

“Ugh, you’re so hot when you talk all smart to me, Miércoles.”

Oh, that was definitely the name he was sticking with. It sounded so nice coming out of Enid’s mouth. “Thank you, cara mia. You make it almost impossible to resist using such language when you steal all of my words with just your presence alone.” Enid was the one blushing now. Payback’s a bitch.

“Oh, two can play that game, Addams.” Enid tackled the raven onto his bed, pinning him by the shoulders.

“You were the one that started it, hermosa,” Miércoles smirked at the girl above him.

“Ugh, I hate when you’re right.”

Enid slipped beside the goth, kissing him soundly on the mouth. She then nuzzled her face onto his shoulder as they lay side-by-side.

“I love you, Enid.”

“I love you, Miércoles.”

Could life get any better than this?

Notes:

I feel like I'm the only one with a craving for transmasc Wednesday, so I made this mostly for myself. I relate so much to Wednesday so why not make her just like me lol. I might make more with this concept in the future if y'all like it, but this is all I had for now.

Also, the title is from the song of the same name by The Cure, if you aren't familiar with it. It doesn't matter at all to the plot but It's one of my favorites right now, so I thought I'd share.

Stay safe and I love you! <3
